Most probably Citibank.
I hope 1PM will reverse it. It's not like they have never done such thing before. I mean in the past they announced they are going to do this and that and a while later they took a 180° turn and said they are not going ahead with it.

I personally feel that there is very little chance for the bank to absorb the cost on its customers' behalf. But then i'm not ruling out on it completely either. If 1PM ignore all public objection and decide to go ahead with his genius plan, i hope he will at least make some changes to his initial plan and only tax those who actually owe credit card money to the bank.

Bro, i dont think so, this is PM Najib not PM Badawi (a certain case recently when his young personal advisor got accepted as Petronas BOD, although the BOD previously resisted using the scholarship issue)!!!

so the bank is going to die now? lolz.. i just coming out to work and want to apply credit card.
*
..not really, i think the credit card business going to consolidate after couples of booming years.. becoming more efficient less wastage.. well, i think lah hahaha...

on personal note, need to consolidate my credit card holdings to less than 5, 4, 3.. i dont make up my mind yet (have yet to cancel a single card and i'm betting/hoping they wont charge the service tax straight away come 01.01.10)...

maybe they will charge at the end of the year? i think probably not. that time most of the people already cancelling their card.
*
the fair date to charge, to me, is at the annual renewal date of each credit card.. if this is true, it's of your interest to obtain your first CC in this November or December 2009.. then you'll be only paying your service tax in Nov or Dec 2010...

The FAQ from UOB seems to indicate that the service tax is due on the cc anniversary date, and not 1/1/2010.
Read the Q6, and the A6.

Update for you guys if you're using EON credit card.

Was confirmed by the CS that EON bank will be having a so-called promotion for their card members to waive the RM50 tax.

The condition is to use your EON CC for ANY transaction ANY amount for 36 times in a year (no limit to monthly transaction). I find it quite reasonable. laugh.gif And it was on the newspaper yesterday.

peace. icon_rolleyes.gif

I was informed by the Maybank Service Centre in 1-Utama that for Maybank credit cards (including Amex),  the RM50 service tax will only be charged upon the renewal month of the credit card.

Anyone can confirm this? If yes, then I probably don't have to cancel my cards so fast.
*
..my Petronas card renewal is Feb.. i guest will be paying my first cc service tax in Feb 2010.. kinda reluctant to cancel though have no commitment to it and seldom use anymore since got Amex cc

hopefully tiger bank would allow service tax payment by off setting treatpoints..5K tp, can ahh.. tiger?

..today, i'm glad that my wish has come true i.e. the billing of the service tax will be on the card anniversary, or at least this is true to AmIslamic card

i just received the bank 10th Dec statement and on it stated 'Billing of GST will be according to your card anniversary month.' Can also redeem bonus points to pay the tax- 10,000 for principal and 5,000 for supp

i will scan and upload the statement tomorrow.. i suppose this is the first black and white statement froma bank?

what a relieve..so sayang to cancel a lot of my collections at one go..hehe happy!

btw, there are no such statement on my EON 9th Dec, Citi Giant 5thDec or Maybanks 3rd Dec (going to wait for my Citi Gold 15th..), so this must be very recent...

I will be cutting all my maybank credit cards and even my Amex since its Maybank related as well, as not doing so will also contravene my sense of intelligence since I am already paying a whole lot of tax to the existing govt as of now. And this goes for all govt linked banks as well. Can't wait to see how many of their existing 1.6M members will be stupid enough to pay, notwithstanding their crappy services  laugh.gif

And will probably get myself a debit card, most definitely not from Maybank, so in the end I will be left with my SCB & HSBC and maybe next year will get an Amex from overseas just for emergency  tongue.gif

I have been informed by my CRM in SCB & HSBC that they will pay the RM50 on my behalf. This is a on a case to case basis and as such its a no brainer why I choose to use their cards. Basically its a win win situation since I give them profits by using their cards, its the least they can do to absorb the @##$ tax
*
..count me in, i think i'mgoing to be stupid enough to pay for not one but maybe 2 principal cards and maybe a supp i recently applied.. i think some will also view me 'stupid enough' for voting oppposition in last GE (from the point of view of BN supporters off course)...

Just to clarify, my comment was not meant to insult anyone but just my opinion as only a fool would choose to pay when there are obvious options not to, right?  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
..sorry, i take still offence to that.. in my opinion, my Amex gold cc (i miss on the SCB justone) is the best card i have and i'm sticking to it, stupid, fool or whatever labels...
