thanks for the tip. just checked, my cards are set as permanant

@David83 :
Right at the bottom, ATM Services --> Overseas Usage Maintenance. That's the only one I could find, assume Miles is talking bout this =p

@vin_ann:
Well some of us don't plan for movies. It's like we're in the mall or somewhere around and decide we wanna watch a movie. Then the card is useful smile.gif

I'm not bothered if the queue is exclusive or not, as long as it is shorter then the regular queue during peak times

oh, now i know why i no need it.

i plan for my movie. you got ur point, tht y i din see ur point.

@vin_ann :
Haha yea, doubt the card will be useful for you; the discounts will end up being minimal anyways in terms of RM saved (since movie tickets don't cost a bomb)

@santaclaus :
The rebate is used against future Shell petrol purchases. You'll need to accumulate rebates till the "minimum treshold", then the card will automatically use the rebate on the future purchases. Say you get a rebate of RM1 each time around, you'll need to go the pump 20 times, and on the 21st time it'll set off RM20 against your petrol purchase.
There's also a max rebate amount (including the cash rebates you get back on ur regular purchase, at 0.75% I think) which is RM1k for the gold card, and RM500 for the classic card

my most recent experience with trying to order hong kong mtr cards online (5% discount) was Malaysian bank cards being flagged as high risk and rejected (even though Verified By Visa and Mastercard Secure Code used).

The high risk was told to me by a Hong Kong MTR customer care person who called me to explain why my multiple attempts failed. Did not try with an international bank card though.

Many many years ago I have similar problem and was given the exact same reason, i.e., Malaysian card are high risk so they are being declined.

So I got my friend to use his Malaysian issued Citibank card and that was being rejected as well. Apparently they go by "Country of issue" only. Nothing to do with which bank.

Why bother. Just go get a AMEX Gold credit card and no such confusing rebate system. All petrol purchased are given points that can be converted to cash rebate. Work out about 2.5% cash rebate. As for any other non-petrol purchase, it is equivalent of 1% cash rebate.

Only problem is, some places don't accept AMEX.

My many many years ago problem with Malaysian card being rejected was also being used online.

But for past few years when using Malaysian card overseas in UK, Thailand, Indonesia and China, no problem whatsoever.

You can apply online, but that's just to let the bank know you're interested in the card. Someone will eventually call u up.
And you still need to submit the documents, along with the signed formed (since they need a specimen signature from you).
The last time I did it without fax machine was by scanning all my stuff (in color) and emailing to the customer service.

For a fresh grad, you could go with the clear card if you want a Citibank card

I may not be necessary but I always practice informing my card bank when I went overseas to avoid complication. I do not want them to call me on my handphone when I am overseas to confirm any purchases that I may have on the card. Imagine the handphone bills..... vmad.gif

It's always better to inform your banks, especially for the cards you'll be using the most. Ideally letting them know if you're expecting to swipe large amounts as well. Avoids the complication of having rejected transaction / them calling you up while you're abroad

Good point. You just gave me a reason to apply for their Gold card when my HSBC VISA is officially 1-year-old next year thumbup.gif

Is all your canceled credit cards complimentary cards ? Don't you have a job ? If you're working you can still apply using your salary slips.

Oh, that's just too bad. May be someone should try it with HSBC, i mean it is after all known as Hong Kong Bank, once upon a time (still is called Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp in full name) laugh.gif Maybe they have better faith in it.

My dad had used both his OCBC Mastercard and Maybank VISA in Hong Kong last year and just a few months ago. No problem. All merchants accepted it.

I personally have helped my mom to order some stuff from strawberry.com using CIMB Gold Mastercard. It is a Hong Kong based cosmetics company and they did not decline my CIMB Gold Mastercard. This transaction was done last year.

Another case is when i bought several DVDs from yesasia.com a few months ago, also using CIMB Bank Gold Mastercard. All the DVDs from YESASIA are shipped from Hong Kong hence the payment is also processed in Hong Kong. Just like AMAZON, my credit card is processed offline. My order was put on hold for a few days and the status was stated as "credit card verification pending". A few days later i received an email from YESASIA and they request me to scan my latest CIMB Gold Mastercardcredit card statement with all the sensitive informations such as billing address blanked out and email to them. Received a call from Hong Kong the next day that they have charged US$xxxx into my CIMB Gold Mastercard and i shall get my parcels in the next two weeks.

You can fill in all your informations online and someone will call you up the next day. You can request him/her to go to your office/house to get all the necessary documents from you.

Hi,

I go away for the weekend only to come back to Credit Card V8!?! So fast lah U people. Anyhow, was just reading a couple of pages back and noticed some people complaining about Malaysian issued cards not usable overseas?

I've been using a Credit Card since 1994 and I haven't had any problems using my cards overseas.

Also, just to keep everyone informed re CL on the Amex Gold Credit Card of mine. I didn't get an increase in CL - it shares the same combined CL as my existing Amex Platinum Credit Card *sucks* but ah well, I don't need so much CL anyways smile.gif

@david_kiat,
For a fresh graduate, U may want to consider a FFL (Free For Life) CC hence perhaps u should check out Direct Access (DA)

A photocopy of IC + 2 months of pay slips, shouldn't be a big issue for you, right? A lesson - do not apply for CCs, MBB in particular, from unknown sales agents. biggrin.gif

It is basically not a problem at all, using CCs issued by Malaysian local banks in overseas. In these recent 2 years for instance, I had swiped Alliance, HLB and DA CCs in China, India, UAE, Bahrain, UK, Belgium, Netherland, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam. The only exemption being rejection on DA in 2 different occations (different years) in Thailand. But these actually happened a few years back. smile.gif

Well yea, but they're more sensitive to overseas one. If it's within ur credit limit and it's local, certain banks are fine with that.
