Good stuff, been using it for over a year edi. The only thing I'm upset about is there's no timer function. There is the interval timer, but even that one also quite hard to use... apart from that, the best training aid below RM1000 I'd say...

Do you have the foot pod as well, tenno?

QUOTE(Saaaweeet @ Apr 2 2010, 03:31 PM)
Hi, I'm 15 and have only recently been running for leisure since late September, inconsistently (3-4 times in 2 weeks or a complete 3 week hiatus).

I've went for my first interschool competition and ran 5 competitions, but only managed to get one medal (a measly fourth >_>), which is for the 1500m one.

It's apparent that I have issues with my discipline, and I don't have a schedule to follow, NOR a coach, and I'd like to seek help from this subforum's netizens smile.gif

Um, I think I have issues with my sprinting, because my so called 'training' has always been mere less-than-2km long/medium length strides which proves that I truly suck at sprinting. During my 1500m run I was the last running for the first 1km and managed to 'easily' jog past the competition during the last 300m when most of them were tired out. I'm pretty sure that I have a big weakspot, and I need advice from seasoned runners here so I can make a consistent and effective routine that I can follow.

I'd like to work on my 800m and 1500m. My latest record:

800m- 3 minutes 19 seconds
1500m- 6 minutes 59 seconds

Thanks in advance!

Hey kiddo, (sorry if you feel offended by me calling you kiddo as you are one compared to me)

Guess it was really not much fun that you have posted something and no one gives you any comment. I feel for you as I too have got ziltch reply one mine. That's why I started a newbie running thread, but it got locked by lowyat staff, maybe they find it irrelevant.

Hey, no one can help you in improving, maybe you can join the pacesetters http://www.pacesetters.com.my/ , I think I have read in their webpage they have trainings weekly.

All the best, don't give up. if you think you can compete, go for MSSM, SUKMA then to SEA games. I'm pretty sure if you can get that far, many people will be more than willing to coach you. thumbup.gif

Wow... shakehead.gif

I guess Ur really new here..so...

If U've been here a while, U will see tht sometimes this thread will go on for a couple of weeks without any comments. Only when there are some events or races U will see this thread active. Maybe some of us have got some other things to do other than replying in this thread.

First of all, U shudn't rely on this thread, or on this forum for that matter, as Ur only source of information or reference. There are tons of info out there on running, which is one of the most popular activities in the world. All U have to do is Google them up. I've found very, very useful training programs in Runners World. In fact, I've been following it to finish 2 half marathons so far this year. So, where there's a will, there's a way.

2ndly, perhaps no one offered any reply (there was actually one reply I think), is becoz nobody in here runs on the track AFAIK. So, if we offer the wrong advice, not fair for that guy, or kiddo, also. The best way is to go to any track, there will always be ppl training there, especially in Kg Pandan, or UPM, UKM with experience who might be able to help. I run on the track, but only for intervals & the 10K event. So, it's quite different from the middle distance like 800m or the mile.

Run on track != road racing ma biggrin.gif

Usually road races fall under long distance running, and track mostly for medium distance or sprinting smile.gif

Most of the road runners have zero knowledge on track running, hence no reply.. if u ask about road running then we may pitch in smile.gif

Plus, I'd suggest U browse thru the whole thread, perhaps some of the questions have been posted before. Come on la, work a bit la kan. We're not being offensive or whatever here, just that sometimes it's pretty hard to answer things like,"What's the best shoe for me" or "Where's the best place to run".. those kinda questions have been posted before.

Tell U what... if U post it in the Bodybuilding thread, sure kena flame kow2 by the mod...

HIIT routine: 1 min sprint, 1 min rest
uphill routine:

gradient: 15% all the time
speed:

been doing the 60 minutes routine 4-5 times (uphill most of the time) a week since january and stopped end of march and rested for a week since nak start balek my bulking up routine in the gym april-june

been to a sports doctor @ pantai medicare cheras and he recommended that i dont run for a while...he did not suggest physio just yet
he examined my NB shoes and the custom made in sole, and thought that its cutting edge and should not have posed a problem for me...yet he stressed i shouldnt run for a month first...
but i cant stop doing cardio - of course im doing a lot of things now to make up to more than 1000kcal everytime i cardio with minimal running
tapi i cant bear the thought of not having to run again

any of u runners ever experienced this?

How much do U weigh gtoforce ? I'm lifting weights as part of my workout as well, I weigh 83.7 kg (this morning) & sometimes I have the same problem at roughly the same area. I noticed that I'll have that problem usually during early season or after I've stopped running for a while (like after fasting month). So far I haven't consulted any doctor, I assumed this problem is bodyweight related. I almost didn't run the Putrajaya Half Marathon in February becoz of this problem.

My solution is to stop running for a while, maybe 2-3 days, put ice on the affected area. Then after 2-3 days, I start by doing very easy runs first. Usually it works for me.

Pretty intense workout U got there. As a comparison, my interval sessions, e.g. 5 x 800m (usually around 3:30 on the treadmill, close to 4:00 on the road), at 5:25 pace or 7mph, by the end of the session I'd have burned around 700-800 kcals, measured using Polar RS300SD.

just got my rs300 from frank also last week. so far so good. still getting used to the functions. it comes with the foot pod. so handy for me when i go for my LSD. also training using hrm is so good as u should listen to your body when training. heheheh.... from a suunto user to polar. i recommend it to others because of the price and support. and by the way tenno....yes we should make sub 2hr our goal for scklm.

GTOforce,

tenno is right, dude. That workout is pretty intense. From what you wrote down, I can see that there might be 3 possibilities that can contribute to your injury :

1. You said you're an amateur.....those workouts you're doing there seems to be overstraining your lower body.
2. Intense workout. You should lower the intensity....you've been maintaining the intensity for 3 months??? That's basically asking for injury, gtoforce.
3. If the shoe is suitable to your foot type, then probably your running gait is injury prone. Looks like you have splints. There are lots of mechanics involved in one's gait while running. I was so prone to injury until I shifted to POSE technique running. Before that, I've suffered shin splints, knee pains, ankle problems, etc.

Try looking into these and that should help you find the answer to your problems. We can't tell what your problems are. You have to experiment, and find out yourself.

*It is also vital to listen to your body. If you feel pain, stop. Resting and taking a breather for a couple of days can actually improve your performance in the long run.

I dun think U wanna do LSD on Ur rest day. LSD shud be on another day & it shud be Ur longest (time/distance) training of the week, so how can it be on rest day ?

Rest day is either U dun do nothing at all.. or U do active rest. On active rest days, U can go swimming, easy jog, stretching, just like elgato suggested. For me, I'd go easy jog for maybe 45 mins, where I'll go really easy, listen to music, enjoy the surroundings, talk to Ur running partner, things like that.
