If he bought it from lowyat plaza, why not send it back so the shop can do the RMA for him. Less hassle. From what I know seagate HDD first year warranty should be 1 on 1 swap. Will be fast(if go through retail shop).

i also having same problem like urs...movies suddenly got lag and pause then resume........i thought is the windows problem or resources overload, so i restart pc, but when i open my tat drive again, my movies become 57 files ( originally i hav 250GB movies is tat folder), then i restart again become 53 files, but the space consumtion is still same. i thought is the SATA cable problem or port problem, i change everything, still same.....i benchmark the drive speed is 3.3MB/s, orginally can reach 100++MB/s..
but after few days, the drive become ok....i notice tat is the drive spin retry got problem...
so based on my experience, u try to shut down the pc (or turn off the drive), then turn back on until u no more hear some sound spinning up from the drive, then that means the drive is ok... when the problem still occur, again turn off then turn back on...
but the data and files in tat drive still intact....
well, bad sectors; i also have tat problem, but after i full format the drive, no more bad sectors....and able to pass all the SeaTools test..
that's weird, yeah, that why seagate doesnt bother to repair the drive firmware..
i wonder when they will release newer firmware to repair tat..

my 320gb seagate just died after 15months...

FYI to those that do not intend to mail it back and do the online form thinggy.

u can just bring your hdd to Mlink at Damansara Perdana if you are PJ, or the Mlink branch in Lowyat if you from KL. I called them and they confirm i can just walk in, without doing the online form and they will mail it back to me.

simple packaging? I just send the whole hard disk in the delivery wrapper. biggrin.gif it's spoiled anyway, not like the delivery people could do any worse than it already is.

just got the confirmation a week or 2 ago that RMA request is accepted.

I noticed that the replacement for RMA is a factory repaired unit.
I just bought my harddisk few weeks ago and would love a new HD replacement instead of a factory repaired unit.
I read from some thread saying if the harddisk is less than a year, it will be a 1 to 1 replacement directly from the place you purchase from (LowYat in my case).

Is that true at all???

All RMA HDD are definitely marked as factory repaired or recertified unit. At least I know Seagate and WD does the same.

Hey guys thanks for all the tips here...I actually have a prob with my Maxtor 500gb hard drive (cannot start up/detected)...and after a few enquiries I called the help line in this thread...and it's their service centre in Sgp. I eventually gave them my SN number and they told me it was under warranty. Moments later a more senior guy called me and told me that actually my hard drive is part of a batch tat has a firmware issue and that it has locked my HD. So they will pick it up from my hse FOC, send it to Sgp, reinstall the firmware and send it back to me. High chance the drive will be ok. Keeping my fingers cross

nope they will send it to seagate. i think most lowyat shop only cover 1-to-1 replacement for the 1st week
anyway my friends 3.5 external not functioning, had it for RMA(give hard disk only, i keep the power cable)
and they send new unit to me (not sure if it's refurbished, but it had zero scratch)

Just an update guys...I think calling the Seagate support centre based in Singapore will be a better solution. I just received my HD back and the firmware has been upgraded. Will go back and try it out.
They are really efficient and fast. Mine probably is a easy upgrade since its only firmware. UPS picked it up last Thurs and I received my HD today. Wow....

Not sure if that will work, because I've already spoke to the RMA officer there and he told me that have to pass the HDDs by hand together with the RMA order form (print from the Seagate warranty website). He will make a copy of the RMA order which is chopped and signed, then passed back. This copy will be proof of receiving the HDDs. hmm.gif

Not sure if that will work, because I've already spoke to the RMA officer there and he told me that have to pass the HDDs by hand together with the RMA order form (print from the Seagate warranty website). He will make a copy of the RMA order which is chopped and signed, then passed back. This copy will be proof of receiving the HDDs. hmm.gif

Oh, so complicated? I just RMA-ed one of my Samsung drive last month, I pay that shop RM30 for his trouble and got my drive back, new drive with Samsung + Seagate model number. wink.gif

Well, you just need to follow instructions at the Seagate warranty website, should be OK then. But I still want to pay a bit more to the nice guy (Nicholas), he really did a good job.

Today received e-mail notification from Seagate Singapore that my replacement hard disk has shipped...Took them 11 working days...hopefully can reached me by tomorrow or Friday.

But it is send from Singapore...hmmm....here the SC don't have replacement parts i guess. I suppose they just diagnose and confirm the faulty hardware and inform Singapore Seagate to send the replacement. I think WD also same...

btw, they're sending me this model...

http://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drive...?sku=ST500DM002

Received my hard disk already!!!! What a pleasant suprised...hehe. So 9 working days total to get my replacement. Not bad... rclxms.gif

Attached Image

But take note...i think this is not new unit...got "Certified Repaired" there...maybe refurbish unit?? Or they just stick this stickers for all replacement as standard....anyone any ideas?? My warranty still runs until next year as per the original unit.

Hi guys, I have a Samsung M2 1TB HDD which is defective, and Samsung directed me to Seagate, but unfortunately I have a ton of data in the HDD that I want to preserve, should I go to Seagate's RMA address in person to deal with it? And is it possible to recover the data in the HDD? Thanks.

under dell service, if your harddisc happened to be damage, the service vendor will allow u to have the damaged harddisc until u manage to recover the files from a 3rd party company or service... however, as written in the seagate rma service tnc, lost of files and recovery of files are not guaranteed n not provided

Hi, I have a Seagate FreeAgent Go external hardrive. Just submitted RMA.

In the final confirmation page, there is this note:

"Step 2 - For Seagate or Maxtor External Hard Disk Drives: Please DO send back to Seagate: External Drive and Power Adapter."

So I cannot send the external drive??

Added on November 17, 2012, 12:19 pmBy the way, I am thinking of bringing the external drive to a local shop to recover my files first. They most likely will dissemble it and take the harddrive out and try on a direct IDE connection because my drive gets an I?O USB error.

Is this goin to void my warranty??

Thanks..

Added on November 17, 2012, 12:22 pmOh, one more question,

During the RMA submission, after entering my SN and PN successfully, I've noticed that the PN number stated in the confirmation page is different from that I've enetered. SN still the same. Is this normal??

Thanks..

Go to Seagate Warranty Validation, to check your drive warranty status. Then submit the details plus the error code using Seagate's Seatools. Print the warranty request form and send it together with the defective HDD (preferably by hand) to... wink.gif

Just make sure you remind them of the quantity of disk you sent in for RMA.

I sent mine, 2 of them to Teleplan Penang, and got confirmation from Seagate in the same day that they received it. Next day they sent it out and today I received it.
Although I just noticed they sent the hdd in 2 shipments. So if I'm right my other hdd should be coming tomorrow.

just to share for those still looking to RMA for seagate

its still the same, go to the website, register/login account, create RMA order, then email the details to tiong nam and get the complimentary pick up.

Tiong nam will pick it and send to UPS SCS in Shah Alam U8 and process it.

You will receive an email few days later (presumably after they tested the drive) and update with a shipping label back to you using UPS.

Mine said created by seagate singapore, but shipment is shipping from China.

will update more if anything else..

Yup, some others had to pay even higher amount than that depending on weight and courier company. Dunno why so expensive to courier stuff to Singapore when its just next door. Cheaper to ship to Sabah/Sarawak. Maybe they charge a premium to cross border.

What courier service so expensive?

I sent my WD drive to Singapore for RMA only cost RM30 or less, using Flexipack international which comes with tracking. It took about a week to arrive in SG at the WD factory. Then WD shipped back to me for free, using UPS in 1-2 working days. They sent me a re-certified HDD, not brand new, but looks new (same model).

On another note, if Seagate RMA, do you have to pay for shipping to SG when you drop off the faulty HDD at UPS SCS (M) Service Sdn Bhd? If yes, how much?

Based on my personal experience working last time at PC shop, WD drives are more reliable than Seagate. Not sure if that has changed.

Poslaju, from my search of LYN forum that time this (RM80) was at the cheaper range compared to what others have paid as well. What is Flexipack? Under Pos Malaysia?

Based on this thread Seagate no need to pay anything and can also get them to pick up from you (see few posts above).

Yes, previously Seagate not as reliable as WD which is why I end up with many WD drives for my NAS, CCTV and PC. But now it seems to be on par or better. From my personal experience WD is significantly worse compared to Seagate especially for WD Reds and Purples. I stopped buying them and started using Seagate the past few years. So far no failure yet unlike WD. But have to wait for a few more years to know for sure.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. It's actually amazing that Seagate offers free pickup service for RMA.

Flexipack is sort of a budget version of Poslaju. I use it for things that are not so urgent, and it does come with tracking service. Yes it's under Pos Malaysia. Poslaju is express delivery, of course it's gonna be expensive.

Same here
My company previously use around 30 WD 3.5 drives in several capacities ranging from 4TB up to 10TB with Blue, Green, Black & Red, all manufactured in different batches (so it's definitely not a batch issue) which failed because of very tiny vibrations
Trust me, it's very tiny, like someone put a book on top of a CPU case vibration then the HDD immediately had bad sectors

Even after RMA'ing them and getting a replacement unit, it still happens after some time
I got fedup, requested some budget from the management then switched all units to Seagate. It's been 2 years now, none of the 30 Seagate drives has failed

Previously I choose WD because Achieva used to handle WD drives so we can just send the drives to Achieva office in Section 14 PJ
But now not anymore. Don't know why WD refuse to appoint local distro to handle RMA process

*
WD is pulling their resources from making traditional HDDs to making NAND/SSD flash. They shut down the PJ factory as well due to decline in HDD demand.

Last time I work in PC shop, there were a few Seagate drives (SSHDs) that died every time out of the box, brand new. Quite a few also died within 1 year of use. Mind you, these drives had 5 years warranty and now I always make a backup for any HDD I have.

Good to know that my experience is not isolated. Seagate does seem to be a better bet for now. We all need to boycott WD until they fix their RMA process and appoint a local agent. It really sucks especially when their drives are such poor quality.

Can I proceed with RMA? What's the benefit of skipping retailer and direct submit to Seagate ourselves ya? Thanks!

You need to ask them yourself.

If you skip the retailer, you can get the RMA done faster

Way faster RMA turn around
The retailer is the middle party. When there's a middle party, there's an added extra time involved, you don't know if the guy who collected your HDD is delaying the process

You won't have this issue when you RMA directly with Seagate. Seagate RMA turnaround is very very fast. The longest I had to wait was 5 working days

Thanks for the tip, when through Seagate Consumer portal;https://www.seagate.com/as/en/consumer-login/l to register my HDD that failed 3 months after buying it from Lazada. Seagate @ UPS Malaysia gave a complimentary pick up for the defective 4TB Seagate Surveillance HDD (crash head, stuck * 2 clicking sounds of death) sealed cardboard box; hdd in anti -static bag,2 inch bubble wrap all around. There is a data recovery option but this drive on the get go was unreliable; PC Bios sometime can't detect, fail data transfer/slow; so there was no data on it that I had can't afford to lose. It took a 7 working days to get the replacement, kudos Seagate Malaysia. Most of it was shipping ; the new HDD was packed to me superfluously, 5 inch of dense foam panel Woorrrr! and it travelled miles more that I had for 3 years haha. started from Wuxi > Shanghai> Incheon > Shenzhen > Ho Chi Minh > KL

I think my barely 2 weeks old 3.5" Seagate Barracuda 2tb which I bought from Lazada is failing. When I received the drive, it was only covered in a thin layer of bubble-wrapping and this really made me face-palm, but who knows, maybe the courier handled the drive well, so I proceeded with installing my Windows there (because previously I bought a WD hard drive which was packaged really well but DOA). No problem with windows or any other app installation or anything, but I realized that even if I move my PC a bit, when I restart the PC, windows will say it cannot start because of some errors or whatnot and asked me to run hard disk check, and after run the check, no errors are found, and after that Windows will start normally. I even use Paragon Partition Manager to run surface test on the hard drive a few times and it says everything is OK. Anyway today I cannot boot into Windows, it keeps on saying some files are corrupted and cannot be repaired.

So what do you guys think? Should I RMA my hard drive? If yes, how should I package my hard drive? Do I need to put it back inside the anti-static wrapping it comes with? I'm not sure if I still have the wrapping though. And any idea usually how much I need to pay for the courier to Seagate service center?

have you checked with crystal disk health status?
seagate provides the packing instruction
fortunately, i kept those anti-static bag, bubble wrap and courier envelope from previous purchase sweat.gif
they also provide complimentary pick-up service
i requested on 16 Mar, received confirmation email but the logistics partner (Tiong Nam) did not contact in advance for appointment
guess what, the logistics partner showed up the next day and collected rclxms.gif thumbsup.gif

So the free pickup is to send the disk to the center in Shah Alam from your place?
Did you have to go to Shah Alam to take the new/refurb unit?

Sounds good. The last time I warrantied a drive was a WD unit, I drove to a place in Subang and handed it in by hand so it wasn't too bad. The alternative was posting it to Singapore which is expensive.

just an update

the seagate RMA worked fine. The whole process took about a week. the box they sent the single drive in was well packaged (kept it for next time for the next rma, although i'm not sure if they accept an already torn esd bag for repackaging it back in? or they expect a new one?)

The drive i got was different and was labelled as recertified. It claims the items from Thailand, but the shipping said it was sent from China? *shrug hmm.gif Still running tests to check if it's okay (long smart test followed by a bad block scan), but so far no issue as raid rebuild worked fine. However when i tried to see the power on hours, these values don't seem to make sense, is that intentional?

However i have a question. On reddit, users claimed that if you do advance replacement, they will send you a brand new driver rather than a recertified/refurbished one. However they mentioned for this you need to first add your credit card payment details, just in case you don't send them your old drive once you received theirs first.

So my question is, when you guys normally RMA, are you all doing advance replacement? If so how?

Also if you do do that, will they still charge you regardless whether you sent them the old drive? Also do you still qualify to request for the free pickup collection service if doing advance placement?

surprisingly when i registered the new drive replacement on the seagate site, it still said the warranty is good for until 2025. probably the same like before?

The old drive warranty was changed to expired.

I doubt Seagate will replace you with new drives so once they reflash the HDD firmware, whatever you read from it nothing makes sense

i did a long smart test, bad block scan, and raid rebuild. all seemed to work.

however the smart test value for power on hours doesn't look accurate e.g. power on hours "43876347232256"

but seeing as current pending sector is 0 and isn't increasing, i think it should be fine.

i just wondered, is it normal for these recertified hard drives to have their smart test values show inaccurate values?

i needed to do rma again, but this time they said they no longer do the free pickup service. is that true?

i did it early this year without issue though.

why then does the seagate rma site still have this free pickup option if it's no longer valid?

did the live chat support lie?

instead they ask me to ship to their collection point myself, or send by courier.

so what is the truth anyone know :X

also another change. there is no longer any hotline to call, and you can't directly email them anymore.

so the only option left is live chat puke.gif

also live chat is bad. they don't even read what you tell them, instead it's like talking to a bot. they just read the card prompts without reading without what you are saying. like example, i was explaining about selecting the free pickup service, but the live support just ask me to send to collection point myself without explaining anything.

then when ask me for rma number, i had already stated at the beginning of the chat....

very unprofessional and you can tell is low effort customer support rolleyes.gif

in short, the rma experience for me got worse on my 2nd rma this year. the 1st rma i did this year was fine with minimal issue. 2nd time was terrible shakehead.gif

*update

anyway i drove to the collection point myself to send the package (all packaged). now i just have to wait and hope i get my replacement in a week hmm.gif

*update

funny story. so after i had sent the package myself, i get a call from seagate about the free pick up service. so i told them i had already sent to the collection point myself.

so timing for rma created to when i got the call is roughly 5-7 days.

Live chat support is useless. they lie and don't tell you the truth and don't even properly do their job so you can't rely on them at all. As for the free pick up service seems they still do offer that. however you have to wait for them to call you, give it 5-7 days to call you. and doný rely on calling live chat.

All live chat tell you is give you the collection point address, that's it rolleyes.gif

Does anyone here know how to initiate a live chat with seagate?

For some reason the seagate website don’t seem to have a link to initiate the live chat
