All of you should be there cos the whole 3 days workshop were so exciting and interesting and keep you on your toes all the time......regret that I can only be Workshop 1 ( to me, the most important workshop of all) only since we are allowed to be in one workshop for the 3 days period......Next time, if got chance, be there and you will be a better man, that's I assured you as I normally sleep thru seminar as most of seminars/conferences or what have you are boring but this one really keep me awake without any coffee.......from 8.30 to sometime 12 midnight and that's why I am so tired after the 3 days @ Seremban.

Missed out a lot. Crap.
Kudos to the 'Fantastic Team'. This is the synergy and teamwork we dream of. Don't know if the word 'conservation' ever surfaced during that 3 day workshop? What about the stuff Lucas 1 mentioned earlier, the associations and association sdn bhd, anything like that pop up? Regretted being away this June, the least i could have done was fire a few sensitive questions and point out a few stuff if i was there. Thanks to the Vet Dept & Sirim? I don't think so. These agencies still do last minute jobs. When will they change. That attitude of the PBT guy mentioned by West Wing is exactly one of the hurdles we THEY have to overcome, ignorant, unwilling to change government officials (this of course includes those who practice 'under the table' dealings). Even IF the industry is taken under JPV as a HVI, the framework, planning, implementation should be transparent and beneficial to all, not only a few parties. It should get continuous input from the 'Fantastic Team' and other parties with the proper technical experience as well (not to suck up, but by now i know how to identify sincere saviors of the industry). I do not know the details since NONE of the attendees were willing to write a report/writeup of the three day workshop (THIS IS CLEARLY A SUGGESTION MIND YOU, haha!). Uncle Ben, sorry for asking this publicly, but the Dr Anis Farhad, is he a Brunei guy (married to a doctor as well, same med skool), tall, spectacles with a goatie and used to play basketball/volleyball during his student years? he might be an old friend of mine, especially since he's in MERCY. |

Sigh....Our last line of defence, broken, mind you, not by influenza virus H1N1 but by the ever notorious nest savvy spideman! Judging by the lost of nest of about 3kg cleared away hastily from 2 unsecured BHs, by that I mean without any security alarm system being installed there, they were just lucky not being caugh in the act. If they are the big timer, would they not consider to break into the bigger, more secured BHs with thousands of nests in them just nearby, I wonder?? They have calculated the risk. haven't they? Look like we should not be self-satisfied even we have caught and punished them in town in the past. We will regroup ourselves to defend our BHs once again, no time for good sleep just yet.
My experience from it is you are probably too late to find out your BH has been hacked when you see many birds are flying around your BH in the early evening. A mobile phone linked security alarm is a must to safeguard your BH just in time. Almost 48 hours gone unnoticed in thls most recent case... |

Sorry, if I sound like selfish but then, I don't think that I am allow to forward all the workshop materials at the forum. As the conclusion and outcome of the workshop need to be forwarded to the technical department of the Pm as we are told. By exposing all materials may be bad or backlash for the industry and the results still need to be approved and finalise by the authorities.
If needed, you may PM those gentlemen attended the workshop and most probably that they will tell what you need to know about the outcome of the workshop. My Apologies to everyone at forum. Just sum up all, we have the support of most of the government departments for now.....the future is still need to be seen.... This post has been edited by West Wing: Jun 25 2009, 12:27 PM |

FIRE! FIRE! IT IS REAL FIRE NOW! FIRE AT THE BACKTYARD!!!!!!! Well, it looks very serious and definitely detrimental to the industry esp all existing 50,000 BHs in the townships. If this were to pass through in Johor, then the chain reactions would happen to other states as our civil servants and politicians are very good in copying and when backfired, would put the blame to others. Who will suffer? I believe all of us in this forum are potential victims too. It looks like the fire is closing near our backyards. What is the point for us to discuss or share the tips as to how to improve our BHs here and later the whole BH together with our life savings are gone to the drain? We better put our focus and priority on this issue. More heads is better than one. These proposals are drafted by people with very big hidden no good agenda. No point for us just to make protests and complaints and start crying here without giving positive solution. I suggest that let all of us scrutinise first and identify the areas that are not suitable and should be amended, adjusted or shot down. We must point out why we against certain proposal under what clause and reference, then, we would give the justifications, reasons or arguments convincingly as to why we object to it. Lastly, we would make recommendation to amend it or to throw it out. Please be very serious, cool and sensible. No point scolding or cursing. It wouldnโt help in the situation. Try your best to do it in a very professional way as you can. We do need every bit of the grey matter from everyone now. Oh, my god, sleepless nightsssssssโฆโฆโฆ.againโฆโฆโฆ. |

First thing first David Lim's Master Piece on swiftlet farming shd be in the hands of the Johor BN assocn(JBNA) n need to be translated into Bahasa Malyasia.THen only can make arrangemt to meet up with the proper authorities thru every mean possible. Johore is a big state ,each town having their own assocn., another problem on coordination of efforts but nothing to hold u all back now.
I do believe DL's guidelines covers a lot of ground to counter whatever is being illogically or irrationally proposed by Johor Authorities(thru the guidance of some inconsiderate people). So Johor farmers do yr best to overcome this nightmare. |

Thought Johor is MCA strong hold. All should look for CSL for help. The previous Housing Minister Ong Kar Chuan also officially said on newspaper few months back that BH in shop lots was allowed. They cannot simply change the law once minister stepped down.
How to encourage investors if rule and regulation keep changing? No wonder foreign investors stay away from this nation. Overnight frozen of CLOB shares in Spore nearly 10 yrs back caught many foreign investors by surprise and avoid investing this country ever since. Big time foreign investing arm like Templeton Asset Management in the interview never even mentioned a single word abt Msia except Thai, Indo and Vietnam etc. Why, why? You and I know. Never learn from past experience. This post has been edited by Bobby C: Jun 26 2009, 10:52 AM |

This is and will not be the first backyard fire in Malaysia, I suppose.
Thought we have seen the same drama occurred not long ago in Sarawak and Penang, right? Just like the forest wild fire and the haze, come back to us every now and then... This time Johor town-ranchers are in deep shit now.... Was thinking to quit my engineer job, better join the force & become a fireman to put out the fire liao...WTF These people are highly trained professional opportunists. They are well-versed and well-prepared in capitalising on the public complaints to gain for something in the end of the day. They do not come for your birds, they do not want to listen to your grandmother explanation and they do not heed their leader's direction. They are only interested in your property, if they can take, they sure will want to take the whole house with them. Sound system, TV, CD player, speakers, everything that they can hand carry, they sure will sapu... After imposing the new ruling of exporting BN, you think the GOVT is benefiting from it? Collecting tax? The bulk of the tax is going to where? you know I know lah (you just need to ask the airport scanning machine maa...) This is going backward like Indonesia, sad but true... BN Strongest hold? How about stronger holding cable to the care-taker, of course with stronger Vitamin M lor... To me, still the same concept, know who is more important than know how. If someone plan to rob you, how will he let you know in the first place? If someone plan to rob you, can you stop him just all by yourself? Or you will want to ask for somebody's help? "Bercerai kita roboh, bersatu kita teguh". Let's stay together & fight this war in unity! Let's set up the firewall to fight this fire! Full stop. instead of telling the officer to let the existing farms to continue forever and all new farms is forbidden as how do we judge if the farm is new or old?? and how about all those abandon shops in selangor n johor especially kota tinggi where even human being is not advisable to stay there as the area is prone to be flooded and not safe for human !!!...... The govt will have a peace of mind that all new township will be zero farming zone and this will goes well to the public too.If i not mistaken, johor did that in one of the new township, Johor farmers pls go n check it out. So, we have settle all the things up there. AND IT IS TIME FOR SOMEONE TO SEND SOMEONE TO `NICELY ' TALK TO THE ECO PARK OR GOVT OFFICERS WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS NOT RIGHT. Good Luck. ANY JOHOR HEAVYWEIGHT CAN DO THAT??....OR ANY OF YR FRIEND WHO IS A HEAVYWEIGHT CAN DO THAT???....BETTER SEND THIS MESSAGE TO THEM TO START DOING IT NOW BEFORE TSUNAMI COME N WIPE ALL OF US OUT!. |

Hmm..look like we Johorean are being put at crossroad. While we are having sleepless nights trying to catch a thief in front, some developer of swiftlet eco park is trying to stab us from the back. What would you do if that occurred to you? Which one will you tackle first?
In my humble opinion. For thieves, when we see them running off with our nests, we fight till the last breath. As for developers, we will fight with them when they show up themselves undisgulsed. On other note, If our senior has shown strong interest in eco park recently, surely he can tell the good developer from the bad and we can take cue from there, can't we?
