you going to buy a new bag?

well hand carry usually 2 small bags is ok. as long as its not 2 small suitcases. last time i carried one small handcarry suit case and a backpack going dunno which country, they didnt say anything. usually its ok. if your leaving from australia that is another case. they are very strict.

it doesn't really matter how many hand carry you're bringing. just the weight of it.

generally, items like ladies handbags, and nowadays, notebook bags or backpacks, are considered 'personal' items, and they do not consider that 'cabin luggage'.......so the optimal way is to have an IATA compliant cabin trolley bag, and your computer backpack...........you can stuff the trolley up to 10 kg, they will usually not mind.......

you can minimise actually carrying stuffs, by slinging the computer backpack on the trolley bay and pulling them as one, easing the load.......

i also duno y my luggage so heavy..but i can sure that my luggage bag is heavy with its size
my shirts not even exceed 5kg i guess n only bring 2 jeans..others is leather shoe, light jacket, other light stuffs

n now my hand carry is laptop, another jacket, hard disk n some books
*
My solution for you is invest in a good bag pack/hand luggage that can carry heavy stuffs, usually i put books inside the hand luggage because it's generally heavy and also easy to handle AND if you have to repack you can simply dump the books if the check in staff insist in trimming down and i know for a fact that hand luggage rules are more lenient compare to check-in luggage to fly to Australia BUT flying out of Australia it is really really strict. Or buy a new luggage especially the light one which is seriously solid and secure, very cheap less than RM300 for a big size and a medium size , mine was like less than 4kg weight for the big size one.
