you are going to be in for a shock if you expect cheap food like msia......

I can't even cook an egg at all.. but I'm prepared to learn how to cook simple dishes while I'm still here. Have like 4 months to practise anyhow lol.

Lol I had the same situation as u when I first came here. Used to eat those microwave food almost everyday for a month until I decided to start cooking. Too bad until now I still can't cook well =/ But I do know how to fry an egg though  tongue.gif

Sigh I'm not a really big fan of cooking. I don't believe in spending ages over cooking and then finishing it up in less than 20 minutes - doesn't seem that worth the effort. dry.gif

Anyone here doing transfer program? Like study in local college for 1st and 2nd year, then transfer to Australia Universities.

Do they let you go to year 3? I'm doing Computing btw, wanna transfer to there at year 3.
*
That is exactly what I'm doing - my college does twinning with RMIT, so I'm going there on my 3rd year (which is on the next sem).

LOL GPS... I don't like using it as it doesn't necessarily point out the best route. Note that shortest route doesn't equate to easiest route.
I prefer using Routeplanner to plan my journey and then use Melway during the drive. Google Maps is useful too since you can preview the place you're heading to using the streetview option.

For those who will be driving, bookmark this:
http://www.visitvictoria.com/displayobject...4680C476A9047C/
It'll be your newest best friend along with Metlink and Uncle Google.
*
Haha sweet link!

Though I probably won't be driving. I don't know what to expect of Melbourne, so I thought having a GPS with maps would come in handy since my handphone has a GPS system built in.. especially since I get lost really easily. >_>

Though if I were to travel around in Australia.. yeah would come in handy. smile.gif

Do anyone from here actually cycle around in Melbourne? I was thinking of getting one, preferably 2nd hand, when I get there..

Sorry didn't see your question earlier.. I'm doing Econs & Finance. You're doing IT is it?

u can rent bike in city & cycle  smile.gif  unless you want to own one yourself.
*
Yeah I want to own one so I can get around without relying on public transport.. but then I gotta see for myself first la, like where I'm staying, how far is it from my uni, public transport's efficiency, etcetc.

Oh, I guess you are now studying in Taylor. I'm doing Computing, but syllabus is more or less the same with IT I suppose.

Thinking to transfer to RMIT is year 3, just don't know if it's possible or not.
*
Eh I can't remember if you were the one who asked me this before.. but I thought I've somewhat addressed your question. tongue.gif

Anyway I'm currently in Metropolitan College, and I AM transferring to Melbourne in my Year 3 (next semester, which begins in July in Melb). So it most probably would be possible, I just don't see why they'd refuse you if your college has ties with RMIT? Or.. do they not? My college has twinning programmes with RMIT although it is wrapping up in 2012 or so.

And we have to be there one week before the course actually starts right? 'cause I wanna book my AirAsia tix by today since there's a promotion now.

Hey guys,

I've got a question here especially to those who are currently studying at RMIT Melbourne (not too sure if this is applicable to other unis). My situation is as follows: Recently AirAsia had a 20% discount promo, so I quickly asked my Head of Department as well as a travel agent who normally deals with students studying overseas and asked when I should fly. Both of them told me a week before the commencement of my course, so I bought the tix, and now, during the pre-departure briefing, my HoD told us a completely different thing.. that we have to depart 2 weeks before as the orientation and registration would be held 2 weeks before instead. -_____-

Undoubtedly I'm quite unhappy. So I checked online and the calendar DOES say that the orientation is 1 week before my course's commencement, and so I told my HoD about it and she told me it could be because us Malaysian students' orientation is separate than the rest etcetc which all doesn't sound entirely convincing to me.

So yeah, my question: in your experience when you first began your life abroad in Australia, does RMIT (or other Australian unis in general) hold the orientation & registration 1 week before or 2 weeks before?

Aw man, really 2 weeks ah. Eh sorry forgot to clarify mine is the July intake, so commencement date is 20th July and I bought tix for 12th. -___-

I am not happy at all..

Eh I didn't get what you were saying, you said 2nd march is your commencement but you have to go before 18th march?

Shucks. Yeah that's the thing, I'm pissed because I have to pay an extra RM110 through no fault of mine, probably my only fault was listening to my HoD and that travel agent.

Hey guys,

I'm coming over to RMIT Melbourne this coming July. I'm a bit lost with the accommodation aspect - how do you guys normally go about looking for an accommodation? The ones listed at realestate.com.au and domain.com.au is a little too high for me - I'm targeting for a place with rental $150-180/week at most, preferably somewhere at Carlton or somewhere near there as it'd be nearer to my business building at Bourke St.

Is it possible to book for an accommodation while I'm still in Msia?

staying alone or share? wink.gif

I'm coming over with my classmate, so share. tongue.gif I have no qualms sharing a room with him, but he prefers to have a room for himself.. doesn't matter to me as long as it's cheap, decent, and livable.

Uh someone from another forum just e-mailed to me about wanting to share with me lol, so yeah, I'll have to see how things go.

Why.. do you know of a place I could rent from?
