I'm sorry if this question has been posted before. I'll be flying to Perth via air asia this sunday. From what i understand from their website, they charge rm 15 for every kg in excess of the 25kg i have bought during booking (i intend to get an extra 15kg if that is true). Did i get my facts right? And does anyone know what is the maximum baggage allowance? I tried calling airasia numerous times but their lines are always busy.

Dont exceed the weight limit.

They gonna charge more than you think.

I got charged RM500+ for exceeding 5kg.

now thats more like it.

rm 15 is too cheap. i dont think its correct. depending on full flight or empty flight the rates will change. by change i mean. could be from rm15/kg to rm80/kg. im not sure if itll reach as high as cheeseniums one. because i think that is rates for the larger companies like mas or singapore or something like that i think. correct me if im wrong cheesenium.

I really doubt is RM15 per kg.

If not,i wont have to payed RM500 through my nose.

There are rules, you know.If they say 25kg,then,please follow their requirement.Exceed 2-3kg is ok,if im not wrong but not till 15kg.It's ridiculous.

Check this out: http://airasia.com.my/site/my/en/page.jsp?reference=D7flight

Yeah i'm getting really paranoid as well. I know MAS charges are over the top so i was really surprised when people told me it's RM 15/kg.

For departures to and from China/Australia- Checked baggage weight that is not pre-booked will be charged at the airport rate of a minimum of 15kg and every kg  thereafter will be charged at RM15/AUD5/CNY36 per kg

It says a minimum of RM15 per kg.Not RM15 per kg.

maybe will be like rm 15 for the first kilo over weight. and then it will go up and up and up according to how many KG's over weight it is.

you could always pack your essentials first. and then extra stuff you can put into a seperate bag. and take out stuff accordingly. of course this is good only if someone sending you to the airport. so they can take your stuff home.

dont need to bring foodstuff. unless its something super special. like...i dunno. everything can buy in australia. durian they also have.

Personally, what are you carrying to Australia? Sometimes certain stuff can be bought there even cheaper when compared to back here.

The other way is to follow the PRC convention, and make them one "word". So your name will be Ahbeng Tan. The only downside is that your name will be mispronounced a bit more than one would like.
*
I don't like this suggestion. Why must we butcher our names and conform to a PRC convention in Australia? It is a unique Malaysian attribute and we should preserve that.

If people can't pronounce your names, correct them and usually they'll try their best. I have to learn to pronounce names of people from all over the world and I always make an effort to get it right so I do not appear disrespectful. Ignorance is not a behaviour that should be condoned.

Erm.... I found the lodge in UNSW website.
But not paying to the university, is paying to the lodge is directly, that's why I worried about it.
It is private, tak sangkut with the university.

By the way, how you apply temporary accommodation through UNSW last time ?I think it safer.
I want to get the information, but the online advisors always offline vmad.gif

Which lodge is this and how will you be providing your credit card details?
It is generally safe to provide credit card details to a company, much like when you book a hotel room.

No one is asking anyone to confirm to any convention. In my UoD the only people who use the PRC convention is the Mainland Chinese. My point it, there are many ways to dealing with Chinese names. Sometimes it may work to your favor: Tan Li Na becomes Lina Tan, which is not a bad way to go. My point was the highlight the possibilities, and leave it to the individual to decide.

By all means, follow the Malaysian convention. However, like it or not, you will have to do some rearrangement to your name (or some clarification at least) in Australia. You can fight it, or you can accept it and move on with life.

And guys, advertising of events is tolerated, but any discussion of the event goes to the Kopitiam, okay?

Wau, quite expensive.

Me, currently at homestay.

AUS $ 250 per week. Include everything food (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Internet a lot of quota.

I advise students try to familiarise with university website and find more information.

Although this type of agent can help you safe a lot of time and ease some problems, you need to spend more.

Why not just do more homework. Try to search from university website, forum here from version 1 (read all). If don't understand then ask. Of course other forum too
