QUOTE(Sophia228 @ Jan 14 2009, 10:14 PM) Anyone going to Bradford College for Feb 2009 intake? One thing i made a mistake. actually under 18s can stay in student hostels, right? Not necessary homestay right? i paid AUD250 for accommodation placement and they gave me a place which takes 1 hour to the city (not even reaching the school !) Students under 18 need to be homestay. No mater you like it or not. Please contact with your university for more information.

Wau, quite expensive.
Me, currently at homestay.
AUS $ 250 per week. Include everything food (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Internet a lot of quota.
I advise students try to familiarise with university website and find more information.
Although this type of agent can help you safe a lot of time and ease some problems, you need to spend more.
Why not just do more homework. Try to search from university website, forum here from version 1 (read all). If don't understand then ask. Of course other forum too

QUOTE(booby @ Jan 24 2009, 10:35 PM) But usually studio they allow only one person stay wor. Unless you find a Studio with 2 beds. U rmit rite? Why dun try unilodge, since u're sharing, not cheap but reasonable I've book a place in unilodge on campus but only got studio one bed type Homestay is the easiest and the most convenient way. No bond and no contract. You can move anytime as long as you inform them 2 weeks in advance. You can write down what are your requirements and they will help you find based on what you request. Good luck^^ (Happy CNY if you are Chinese)

Finally been caught have 2 accounts. Hahaha.
The homestay fee 250 is at Burwood. Anyway, most of my friends only pay 225.
I know some students from Melbourne University or RMIT who stay homestay also pay about this amount or 270 per week. If you don't believe you can check it or ask your university.
You also can google it homestay in melbourne, there are some many agents can help you up. Anyway, I still believe university rather than agencies.
Happy Chinese New Year. Gong Xi Fat Chai.
I just came back from China Town, Melbourne and feel CNY environment. Hahaha

Scan is free in my university. Printing is 8 or 9 cent per page or double side 7 or 8 cent.
No one will catch you as long as you don't sell photocopy books to others

Cause in Taylor's now, i bring photocopied notes to class get scold by lecturer, consider illegal I scare in RMIT if i photocopied a few pages from reference book will get scold also Especially tutorial time, i really need them. No more will care it. Don't bind them together cause it increases the weight. bring paper separately to class. It reduces your burden. Hahaha

Now economic crisis and difficult to find job.
You might face exploitation. Some bosses request you to try for work and without paying. Then, they will say you're not suitable for that work which without paying you. Good luck guy/girl.
I wish you can find a good employer.

I would like to ask about police record check. I have just received a letter from my university to ask me to do police record check.
I have done for Police Record Check for Australian.
However, the letter also state that "students who have lived in Australia for less than one yera must obtain a police record check from the country in which they last resided".
Do you all have any idea about police record check for Malaysia?
Thanks

QUOTE(fishooi @ Feb 12 2009, 09:21 AM) Hi, I just arrived Melbourne to enroll for Diploma in Engineering at Monash College, Clayton campus. So far I'm having trouble on applying accomadation. Since the hostel are full and I'm still staying in a temporary accomadation in South Yaraa and it will be hell lot trouble for me to get here and there. Well all I want to ask is, what is the procedures to get myself acoomadation?? So far, I just send some emails to some rents posted on the notice boards, and only one of them replied. SMS them save your cost. Don't call because your phone credit will finish very fast. Do you bring over your handphone, I mean 3G phone. If yes, just go to any shop and buy sim card and insert inside you phone. It takes 1 to 2 hours to activate.

YES! There are just too many accents for me to adapt to. I can't really understand the China English accent. Damn. And the engineering school are scattered like everywhere, it takes me some time just to find the one I have to go to [/quote] Take your time to fine tune your ear. They always claim that they have the most accurate accent and Hong Kong, Malaysian or Singaporean don' have accurate accent. No matter in English or Mandarin. My advice is don't ague with them, no point and you can't convince them once they feel their points are right.

I'm staying at Burwood East and has bus directly to Monash campus at Clayton.
My rent a month is $550 and includes with all utilities and the internet.
I'm small eater per week i spend about for $30-$40 or less for cooking. I estimate $25 per week for eating out. Now just starting I not sure does it work or not. If you cook then you can save more. If you stay at Clayton go to Springvale to buy vegetables and fruits because cheaper.
Phone $30 per month.
Transport about $20 per week. It depends where my class, if at Burwood campus then I walk to uni, if other places then have to take public transport.
Besides, expenses for eating out and public transport also depend on how frequent I go to city. If I go very often, then spend more.
So, I budget it to spend in a month around $1000.
By the way, Clayton is Zone 2 if I not mistaken. (I'm not Monash student)
