Hey guys,

I went shopping and came across this LG dvd player but cant remember the model. I am very keen to buy since it has USB input, HDMI output, Optical & upscaling capability. Then, I asked the salesman the player did not have DTS output printed.

He said it was some cost saving method as using the DTS incurred license fee. But he claimed that nowadays almost all players can still play DTS surround format eventhough it did not have DTS logo printed. Ok guys, is this statement true or false ?? Can we safely conclude that this LG player without DTS logo has dts decode feature ?? How to prove ?

Thanks.

Get the model number and look at the web la. Better still bring a DTS encoded DVD and test.

Most dvd players in the market can't decode DTS audio internally actually unless via bitstream. It's true it is to cut cost, the salesman was right about this.

Yep if you see logo "DTS Digital Out" then the player bitstream only. You need amp that can decode DTS (most new amp can). The player that can decode DTS usually got "DTS Digital Surround" logo. Anyway this don't apply to those cheap don't know what brand at Carrefour, Tesco or Mydin. That one can even put DTS-HD MA if they want laugh.gif

For DVD players, unless it's a high end one, it will be pointless for them to decode it internally with those low end onboard DACs.

Thanks for the input.

So u guys mean I can still enjoy the DTS format in this player via a receiver with an internal DTS decoder right ??

In conclusion, it is not important for any particular dvd player to have DTS logo on it because our AVR can still decode & play DTS format internally right ??

Need your confirmation before I regret buying the LG player & not having to enjoy DTS later....

hey arremie, mind asking how you set your DV600 for HDMI mah? For HDMI Color there are 3 settings, Full RGB, RGB and Component, so which is best setting for best picture quality? Any other settings that i need to know in order to maximize the picture quality? Thx in advance.. smile.gif

My current settings are:
Video Output
TV Screen>16:9(Wide)
HDMI Res> 1280x720p
HDMI Color> Component

Dude I'm using same video setting as yours but I set mine at 1080p. I prefer component for color setting. Full RGB and RGB will make the picture darker which I don't like. Other setting I don't touch. All default. Even with default setting, the PQ is superior compared to Philip 5986k so that's why I never bother to tweak further.

That is pretty expensive. I got mine some time ago at RM379 at Sen Heng Sri Petaling, and even that was expensive at that time. And yeah, came with a free Giraffe HDMI too.

tell me about it..... i was quite unhappy when i heard the price...but since i really needed a player and really didnt have the time to go around looking for it (Mid Valley doesnt have this model doh.gif)...i decided that i can live with RM20 over my budget....oh well..

anyway....can anyone share their HDMI settings with the 5996??

i currently have mine connected through HDMI to my LG 42" Plasma (forgot the model).

the best way is to get some sort of warranty from the shop that if u cant get DTS from the LG, u could return it back for another unit...or try to test it first at the shop with a DTS receiver and your reliable DTS encoded software / film...hope the shop knows how to set up the digital connection lah tongue.gif

i had a few cap ayam players...earlier ones can output DTS...newer ones only can output DD...no signal when select DTS to the amp

Pioneer DV-610 selling for RM999 at Harvey Norman.
Where can get better price?

Will CD audio sound better with it's DAC compared to a Yamaha AVR?

I have a NAD 521BEE CD Player and the DV-410, The NAD wins when playing Audio CD's. After all why not, NAD is designed to play Audio CD's. The question is are you an audiophile?. Best is to go to A&L and ask them to play a CD with NAD CD players and then play the same on a DV-610 or DV-410. If you dont hear any difference they count your blessings, cause you just saved a lot of $$$.

I do have one cap ayam called Akira..............The probelm is when I select Audio format to DTS, the language is automatically diverted to French or Spanish. Only Dobly 5.1 can play English version. Thats why I want to search for a player with proper DTS out since it is clearer than the DD 5.1, I do not know how to change the audio language to english when select DTS from the crap Akira player.
