i think it shud be alrite...cd or dvd is just labels given for the input...it should go through the same processing...
i have a marantz receiver and i'm using one of the coaxial inputs to share between my old philips cd player and a portable dvd player...2.0, or 5.1... all can be used with no problem from the same coaxial input...

for 3, to use DTS, manufacturers have to pay license to use the DTS...

Thanks for clearing my doubts.
I guess I have to buy an optical HDMI dvdp to connect as my old LG receiver has only optical no coxial output.
My next question is by using this connection, do you think I can achieve better surround sound than using the LG receiver internal dvdp?
Are nowadays new dvdp made to be not so "sensitive" in reading dvd format, especially pirated disc? My old LG occasionally leaves disc error.
What you people think about Sony DVP-708 dvdp? I am looking for dvdp with optical out and also easily read any disc you throw at it. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Well, I'm using the Sony 708 now. Not bad, plays all discs including those poor quality ones too. Picture quality is good and very reliable. Of course, you can also consider Philips 5996 if you want a dvd player with USB input. The Sony doesn't have one though.

I just bought LG 387H DVD Player/recorder... but when i hook it up to my SONY D series with HDMI cable the screen says "Signal not supported" .. crap .. i'd tried changing some of the settings but it still does not work.. is there anything else i can do? or is this a case of "too bad.. LG and Sony is just not compatible"
