with the recent news about Oppo's BD player, it will be more difficult to find a suitable DVD player now...

I just bought the Sony 708 HP and seems a very satisfactory buy for me.

Guys & for those who use this player, do u set the picture mode to theatre 1 or 2 when watching movie which is recommended by Sony?? I found standard more more natural as the black colors look brighter in theatre mode. There are other 2 dynamic modes that I dont think is an ideal too. Please advise, thanks.

One more good thing is this sony player can learn any other tv's signal. I can now control the on/off, sound level and input switch of my panny plasma by pressing on the sony player's dvdp remote. Maybe this is called bravia-Viera link...Hmm *_*

Yep totally. If u want to feel better, I bought mine at 850 and old 600 model some more not the latest 610. Until I can compare it with XDE player, I'm totally satisfied.

As much as I like standalone BD player, it is really wrong to say PS3 is not a better BD player. It is still the best BD player in the world now. Maybe in future when there are better standalones, that statement could be true.

Yeah, I'll be getting the XDE for my 2 racks of old DVD collection, but I will never buy new DVDs anymore, all new movie purchase from me since October last year are only in BD format.
