I'm trying to register my personal information in the Playstation warranty website but it keeps on asking to fill up 'District' which has only dashes (---). Can you guys register without problem?

Previously, i encountered some problem when registering warranty too. I just call Sony Customer Service Hotline (1-800-81-4963 (Open 9:00-20:00 Mon – Sun)) and the problem solved. Maybe u should call too.

Since u have aldy signed up with Malaysian PSN id... thats great.. the PSN store for Malaysia not available yet...

so u want to download latest demos and more stuff, create a new user id (US or SG account).. both aldy have PSN stores ...plus dont delete the user id u've created, just leave there for future purposes...

Since u say streamyx is slow, why not download ps3 updates on pc then u can update it using USB thumb drive for convenience.. here is the link

So slow internet speed has got to do with updating ? I mean, since it is brand new my PS3, I popped Fallout 3, and it started to update. However, it updated to 2.5x (can't remember). Then I updated again and this time, to the latest, 2.54 (I believe...). So, I dun see how it can get any newer than this update as it already states it is the latest.

... Have not created a US PSN id yet... will try. Any chance of signing up Singapore / Japan id for 'improved connection speed' or they're all the same?

register psn id u can do it on ur ps3 or by website. u can choose between US , Euro , JP , MAL , SG , HK psn id. difference is the content of their psn store when u logged in, try read the helpful write up somewhere in this forum. about the lag , if the 3 laptop using bandwidth like crazy , then surely the network will lag. oh any btw congrats on the ps3. enjoy.

now I'm trying to connect the PS3 to the net...using a normal modem. Mine's a basic wired Aztech modem. The Sony Style sales fella said I'm supposed to put in my streamyx user and pass but can't find such option in the menu....guides only show how to connect through router too. Do I need a router to connect to the net?

for ps3 there are 2 types of updates: firmware and game update (patch)

firmware is usually shipped with a game (not necessarily the latest)
ps3 prompts to update the firmware if it is connected to psn network and there is a new version on the server
normally people just download the update using computer and then transfer it to any usb drive to update the ps3
ps3 firmware is not incremental; so you can just update straight to the latest version
connecting to the psn requires you to have the latest firmware

game patches is downloaded according to the disc region (isnt affected with console region/psn id region)
once you pop in the game disc, it will prompt you to update firmware first (in disc, if your firmware is older than in the disc)
then it will check with the server if there are any patches

nothing you can do about the slow speed, except cycling your IP (assuming you use screamyx)
or download the patches using pc (proxy app). the details are in the first page. ctrl-f -> proxy

Yeah. When I played Fallout 3 for the first time (when I was yet to update my PS3), it updated the firmware. Once it was done, it updated the game.

When I checked for System Update, it updated to the latest version. So yeah, Fallout 3 did update my firmware but not the latest, but it did update to a newer one than the one originally on my PS3. Had to manually update in order to get the latest firmware.

As for my internet connection speed (Streamyx), I believe it is the fastest at night. During the day, it is really dreadfully slow.

Currently, the Star reported that streamyx might be slow until end of this year. Some cable problem I believe.

really....i think you must be reading an old article. i think streamyx have had "cable" problems for years now. they trying to figure out how to join them together.
