Price is quite attractive. But not recommended coz it is still a new company and very less user. Not worth to take the risk by signing 24 month contract.

Btw, read their FAIR USE POLICY.

Looks ok. The cheapest so far, RM 78, with HSDPA speeds and USB modem provided. The fair usage policy is quite standard la, for wireless service providers. But the painful part is the 24 month contract. And only covers Klang Valley. This package in only their promo though, as it runs till they're out of stock, so the rate thereafter may increase.

Quoted frm the FAQ:
Surf with U offers you unlimited usage, however to curb abuse to the service and network congestion, each subscriber is allowed to use up to 5G per month according to bill statement date. dry.gif

I was thinking of getting the new Streamyx combo but now thinking of getting a mobile internet. I'm staying with a friend and might be moving here and there often. Since I don't have a confirmed place yet, getting Streamyx doesn't seem to be an option.

This new plan seems to be attractive. I think the 24 contract is just a period and it can be cancalled at any time. Just pay for modem and the final month usage. If stick on the contract, the modem can keep.

Can someone tell me if Maxis lets customers keep the modem if the contract is finished?

This 3G is very location dependable.
And the reception can be a headache if your location not good.

Still, CELCOM is the BEST. NO CONTRACT! Terminate as you like. No QUESTIONS asked, UNLIMITED bandwidth.

8MB is too little lah.. Are you sure got such thing? if 800MB is reasonable.

Where did you find out that you can't use more than 8MB? I don't see it .

On the money back condition, it only states that the modem must be returned in good condition within 8 days.

I wonder if Cheras is entirely covered in it's coverage? Because I see that Cheras is in the coverage map....if it is not entirely covered.....in which area of Cheras is covered in it's service(U-Mobile)......

The service looks good to me but i'm still sceptical of it's service.......because this service sounds new to me...and a little expensive though.....RM78/month.....don't know how good it is and how reliable is their service....is it on best effort basis or what....... hmm.gif hmm.gif

I juz asked this due to reasons of wanting a wireless internet service for a college student like me and the rest of the forumers who might be college or Uni students as well... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

The website don't have much information on the coverage. I think you have to call them to find out. RM78/month is cheap considering it can go up to 3.6Mbps. Compare to others that are more than RM100/month for similar speed.

Of course, I think their service as usual is best effort basis. There is no guarantee service effort in Malaysia that I know off. laugh.gif

Is there a roadshow? I would like to test the speed myself.

I am living in tmn melati utama there.
So far is ok for me la... happy.gif
perhaps, the amount of users for this service is still very few, have to review again when the users amount become big sleep.gif

Yes!!! Unless you get written permission.
And in their faq, they said 3.6 is if there is not many users, and lastly their coverage is so limited. streamyx has a 60 ringgit plan without phone line rental now.

What I was informed from the people there, if you excess the 5Gb data limit, there will not charge you. Just that the bandwidth for you is reduced for the remaining days of the month.

Well, another thing which is good news for us, the officer there saying currently the 5Gb data limit rule is not yet enforced, so meaning for the time being its unlimited data usage. However, I not really believe it, have to see what will happen to my bandwidth if my data usage exceeds 5Gb tongue.gif

While the download speed is pretty ok, the upload speed is miserable. I'm staying in Taman Danau Desa and I was informed that my place has a 99.9% coverage. The speed fluctuates from around 100kbps to 500kbps. Sometimes I even obtained 1.1Mbps.

I agree that the speed is way below expectation. However, at 50-60kbps of upload speed, what can I do with it? I won't even be getting a decent voip.

Attached is the test I did at speedtest at 0037. Not really impressive.

i think for the time being. they are still new and they are desperate for funds for expansion and upgrades, that's why they are having this kind of promotion to attract more customers in order to sustain their early business startup.

u doesn't offer a data only package at the moment. They're only interested in selling their wireless broadband service if you also get the modem from them. This is so they can tie you down into a 24 month contract. Any company practising these kinds of policies should be avoided, as it says a lot about their confidence in their own service shakehead.gif

After all, if they were so confident about the quality of their service, why not offer packages without restrictions?

Just got activated today. Will do the testing.

Called their call center, theres no 8mb maxxed for testing period(8days). Feel free to try torrents and stuff.

Added on March 18, 2008, 10:14 pmOk first day of use, the speed sucks at my place.

Tried speedtest.net and jaring bandwidth, its stucked for quite a long time. Shows that the speed is veryyyy slow.

I'm staying at Pusat Bandar Puchong btw. Maybe its my place. I'll try again tomorrow at Kelana Jaya.

Hmm... I can smell a refund.

Just got ubroadband and I live in Subang Jaya. Surfing is very slow. And I did a few speed test and my speed is the same as a 56K dial up modem.

According to the map, it said Subang Jaya had very strong signal.

I guess its back to Streamyx. Whatever it is, even their Streamyx 384 is faster than this 3.6Mbps speed.

Just sent my modem for a refund. Haih, thought can get the 50bucks back on the spot. They told me they will send a cheque in a month.

Oh well.

The speed is getting ridiculous after few days. Constantly get around 56kbps. LMAO, brings back my dialup memories.

Totally agree w/ u guys, my area in D'sara Perdana got similar speed rate only.

Really slow but 1 thingit was good abt was it never DC & normal surfing like checking mail / MSN was ok. Price was ok too but 5GB/month really not enuf for me at all.

But no point, since it slower than 56kbps. Will return modem to them soon.

Bye bye U-mobile...
Jst go register fixed line only, waiting streamyx activation.

Just got my "Surf with U" yesterday at Berjaya Times Square, U Mobile had a booth at a gaming convention there.

The registration was easy enough, filled in the registration form and paid RM50. I get a ZTE MF622 modem and a U Mobile USIM. Will be giving the "8-Day" offer a run for its money (or my money? hmm.gif). If there's good performance around areas where I need to go online, then that's ok with me.

Will try to report my findings here soon.

Been using it for almost 5 days liao.
1 word = sucks

average speed 100-300kbps (1.8/3.6 mbps konon)
more like edge, which is only rm66 now

i'll get around 1mbps if u open lots and lots of connections or 10-20 pages of websites at the same time.
i live in kajang, but tried at lotsa places in the kl, almost the same.

youtube? forget it.

also no ssh port for those wanna tunnel to their office or home.

returning it when the trial ends.
dissapointed...tot HSDPA will get 1mb average.

but i'll give them another chance if they improve their speed later.....

I was at Digital Mall SS14 last night and saw quite a number of people signing up for this service. Well, I think most people are just wanting to try it out since there is a 8 days money back guarantee. Most of them probably end up returning nevertheless.

I dont think when it say 3.6mbps it means 3.6 megabytes per second is more like 3.6megabits per second so effectively you should be geting 460kilo bytes per second and that is the max. So if we can get like 300kilo bytes i think is not bad. Well streaymx 4mbps cost more than 200 ringgit per month. Just my 2 cents. Thank you.

They are saying that they get 300kbit/s, not 300kByte/s... so 300kbit/s is only about 30kByte/s

HSPDA... 3.6Mbps.... al lies.... cry.gif

signed up and cancel the subscription for refund.

reason: No coverage at all at Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong (not all Puchong area covered)

procedure: return back the modem in good conditions. bring along the receipt. But refund payment will be made by check (from u-mobile)within 30 days.

good things: very easy to signup. no hassle. only need ic copy and any utilities bil.

still waiting on the effectiveness of the refund process.. still waiting for the check. (refund on 1/4/2008)

Surf with U offers you unlimited usage, however to curb abuse to the service and network congestion, each subscriber is allowed to use up to 5G per month according to bill statement date. dry.gif

don't simply bash u-mobile lah. this t&c quite similar to celcom broadband. i dunno bout maxis but i believe it just the same.
for celcom, if u exceeded the 5GB barrier, they will manage the user's bandwith. (read terms 5.4 under excessive usage - for celcom)

all these bb, everything stated on best effort basis, then what's the point saying its 3.6mbps speed. its like trying to strike a jackpot if want to reach a decent speed. my as well say its 56k modem speed and anything extra is a bonus. tell me if its not a marketing con job.

apparently umobile uses tmnet for most of its international traffic... it'd be quite useless when tmnet's international link goes down.

any proof from u that umobile only uses TM international link?

I have got fren staying at bandar puteri puchong by far quite satisfy bout the ubroadband service but he is not a BT user. he only do surfing, chatting and online gaming. he said he can get hsdpa most of the times. oh ya, he also got tell me that umobile also using HGC international link (he did traceroute)

but for me, if the mobility is not the criteria, i definitely go for TMNUT.

hi guys ...

i am trying out the U-Mobile now and it seems to me that sometimes there is service and not all the time although in the same area ... this is strange .. isnt it?

i am trying to substitute with this if it works in my house .. so i could save up some $$ as compare to streamyx .. but i hate to admit .. i think i would stay with streamyx and add a wireless router to move around the house.

if on the move .. i think celcom is still a better choice ..

just my 2 cents

The modem is locked to their network, you'll have to unlock it or get someone to unlock for you only then you will be able to use the modem with other networks.

The driver inside the Modem. When u inside the cable, it detect as modem & USB Mass Storage

Open My Computer, notice the extra drive letter.

Pretty smart idea, no need to carry the driver around.

BAD connection. Tested in Maluri, Bangsar, KLCC Tower 2, Pantai Hill Park and 7 Miles of Old Klang Road. Sloppy speed. Worse than Streamyx and 56K. Don't even bother to benchmark. Another typical failure project of Vincent Tan after Berjaya Travel, MiTV, Berjaya Time Quare, Berjaya Air, Inokom...

No, they're not under Celcom. They're just using Celcom's platform.

Should be stable since Celcom broadband is the best so far; so I've heard, never use Celcom before.

3G technology is still relatively new but I'm sure it will improve. Unlike true wireless broadband such as TIME Webbit, after a while it is just dying and in fact TIME Webbit has officially stopped it's service, only remaining customers will be able to use it.

You mean broadband via 3G ? If you are talking about 3G then yes I am not saying it will die since handphone will also be able to surf via 3G. However, it just needs more time for the technology to mature in Malaysia.

Just get the modem yesterday and after 24 hours of testing... Just one word:
Dissappointed

Torrent blocked is ok
but somemore i can't even buffer a youtube video nicely
a 1 minute youtube can't even finish buffer after 1 hour
then i tried some http download, just few MB of attachment download
the speed is only around 5kBps, yes, that's a 56kbps speed

But if you just need a broadband, to surf fancy Flash made website
then its fine, although there is a bit delay loading the page

well, waiting for weekend, and go to BTS for refund

Yes, cant entirely blame them. They already stated that the speed is based on area coverage. That's why we get the 8days trial, to test it at our area.
Just hope they speed up the improved version specially with all the hype; hi-tech looking centre in BTS etc.

100 people subscribed 50 terminated. Saturday there are 20 over people on queue for termination. Consumer getting demanding nowadays and who in the EARTH will pay $ to U Mobile and wait for them to be strong while P1 and Izzi leveraging the rest? Either you are in or you are out when started the game. This is cruel rule in ISP market.

Sloppy speed don't make you be the top 3 3G and content provider. U mobile guys. I know you are looking at this forum.

Korean operator KT Freetel and Japan's NTT DoCoMo have agreed to acquire 33 percent of U Mobile, a new Malaysian 3G mobile operator that is scheduled to launch commercial service in 2008. Upon approval of the Malaysian government, KTF and DoCoMo will invest USD 100 million each, giving each company 16.5 percent of shares with voting rights. KTF and DoCoMo will jointly participate in U Mobile's management and draw on their 3G expertise to enhance U Mobile's competitiveness. The two companies intend in future to promote international roaming services through U Mobile's 3G network for their respective customers traveling in Malaysia

Perhaps they improve in future but not so soon. So let's just hope we'll see an improvement soon enough so that there will be more competitions. smile.gif

Very unlikely they will improve. Berjaya Group's business ethics doesn't really bode well these days and the fiasco that they did with mitv not so long ago cemented this perception about u mobile or whatever that comes out from vincent.

As long as the customers are cursing about the quality of your services, you're a dead duck in the industry. Frankly, i'm surprised that mcmc has yet to take action on them on their substandard performance.

Only digi seems to be the most watched company that hopefully will change the mobile internet industry with their savvy marketing and consumer friendly pricing in the near future.

Well yes it is unlikely but still it is difficult to say, who knows they might improve. Take for example Maxis, started off really well with unbelievable performance and now everyone is just cursing and stressing over their Maxis connection. We'll wait for DiGi to see what they can deliver. smile.gif

maxis is only good in "rich man's place" too damn calculative till users in other places curse like hell and they are damn clever to tie customers wif a contract

Celcom is different, they hav been silently expanding their 3G cells quietly wif the expertise of vodafone, now i can even surf at 3G speed at an out of of town small village to the amusement of villagers rclxms.gif

THUMBS UP to celcom............but sometimes during upgrading period their service also suks doh.gif

Every service sure has it's own "period", as long as it doesn't last too long then there is no big fuss on this kind of issue. Even data centres hosting servers won't guarantee a 100% uptime. smile.gif

i use u mobile and just found out that multiple users shared the same ip address online. it's too late for me to cancel without paying for the modem since it's over 8 days. looks like i've fallen into the 'if it's too good to be true..." trap.

anyway, i have to cancel and get stuck with a worthless modem which have to be reconfigured (which i dont have any idea how to yet), to work with another service if such is available.

Since you are paying for the modem RM799, Can you check the registered date on the warranty card.
I got feeling my unit is recycle unit, the date fill up 2x/March/2008. But i got the unit at PC Fair 13/April/2008.
Monday I'm going to return the unit. Very poor/limited coverage at my residential area.

Yes I agree with this statement, for those people who are always on the move cannot depend on WiFi and therefore a connection like 3G is much more suitable. As long as it is able to give decent speed, IMO for those who just want to surf the web and also maybe upload some files for work and so on, speeds around 20kB/s-25kB/s is still good enough as long as you have Internet connection almost everywhere.

Although it is claimed that UMobile will have speeds of up to 3.6mbps with just RM78 every month, it isn't even near 56k speed so definitely not worth the money. Even a Celcom D68 at 384kbps is so much faster so I am going to support what digilife suggested.

Yes i know I got your point bro... well as an expatriate i have my limitations. Celcom do require too many things that at this moment I can't afford to do. This u-mobile also my friend help me to take.. I just dont want to blow him off.. so I'm thinking hard cz i wont/cant take tmnet but i require a strong connectivity as my job and my research also depends on the speed.. if i am not mistaken for celcom i still got to buy the modem .. sad.gif

anyway i just talked to the customer service and i am going to give back the umobile modem package tomorrow..

and along with that they will gonna get bash exactly on my BLOG..

unless you are testing against a server which resides in malaysia .. well it doesn't really acceptable and countable by logic..in addition to that .. you can't see a ping result from izzy speedtest.. most probably they set it up in a manner that they can sale their product.. oh i forgot to mention my maxisBB also shows 189KB/s speed at izzy speedtest sweat.gif while it downloads a file from microsoft which is about 2MB and takes about 37minutes to download.. avarage speed 3.2KB/s... hmmm .. wink.gif

What is izzy upto actually..?

you can confirm it if you have a personal proxy setup which tunnels through ssh ... so you can track the filename it tries to download or upload as well as you can resolve the server..

if the result from izzy is true or even the half of it true... you should be able to stream online media, RDP, SSH, ftp protocol without any issue.. well none of them work properly with this umobile.. wink.gif

u mobile use celcom 2G for calls ONLY 3G they build their own. coverage like crap only la... I am in damansara perdana... ZERO BAR.... I used in KL area about 3 bar but speeds also slow. 1.8M-3.6Mbps my ass!!!! wasted my time going all the way to berjaya times square... 1 time to purchase... 2nd time to return... no sign of my refund yet... I guess cheap service, u get cheap lousy coverage... dun bother signing up guys...

(tarik from other thread tongue.gif )

my theory, when i use 3G phone searching 3G network, if 018 Umobile signal appear, does it mean the area is covered by Umobile 3g/HSDPA area?

Yes basically if UMobile's network show up when you are searching for 3G networks, then your area is probably covered by UMobile. However still best to have them confirm on coverage issues.

Considering that UMobile stated to have speeds of up to 3.6mbps, the speeds you all are getting are not even more than 384kbps which is really really bad.

Well have you come across the current promotion from Celcom ? They state that they are giving "free modem", well not exactly because they are charging you RM99 for the D68 package every month so it is like an installment for the modem in a way. I believe UMobile is probably the same since they tie you to a 24 months contract while that Celcom promotion ties you to an 18 months contract.

If I'm not mistaken you are able to choose between the Huawei E220 and BlueCube, I'm not too sure about this but if you have no option to choose then I am sure the standard modem would be the Huawei E220.

kb is bits while kB will be bytes. If you tell someone your speed in kbps for example 200kbps, in bytes will be 25kB/s since you can convert it by dividing the value with 8.

in fact those days i can get 10KB real speed with my dial up wink.gif

a lot of people doesn't know the difference between kbps and KB .. thats how internet providers take advantage of "lacking knowledge" and sale the stuff which doesn't even worth half of the money ..

Some bandwidth test sites doesn't display accurate results or sometimes it might go "crazy" by displaying an excellent speed but in reality it is so much lower than that. wink.gif

but.. just u guys own opinion... it uses celcom's technology right? maybe its just a matter of time for them to be as par as celcom... what u guys think?

they are new.. and we cant expect any better...expecially in msia.. lol..

so..wht u guys think? keep the internet n give them a chance? or terminate n never look back?

any way, i'm thinking to test celcom 3g on the modem provided-it support up to 7.2mbps.. but 799 is kinda pricy if compare to other vendor price......

Well if the service is that bad I don't think should give them a chance. Terminate while you still can and get Celcom, at least Celcom have more satisfied users than any other providers at the moment. You may go back to UMobile once it is proven they are providing satisfactory service.

i've been monitoring my U Mobile Slowband dialer and it's showing really fast speed even when browsing Izzi's website. Kindda weird for me as even U Mobile website sometime takes ages to load. When surfing Izzi's website, everything's a snap of the finger....something smells fishy to me here smile.gif

If the speeds are able to burst up exceeding 1mbps, I am sure there isn't any problem getting that kind of speed at all. Perhaps UMobile is throttling ? hmm.gif

I can't really recall which provider but there was one that offered some sort of refund if the user is not satisfied with the service and it took few months for that person to receive the refund.

just some report about u mobile. since yesterday i've been experiencing problem getting online using u mobile at my office @ KLCC. however, today, when i tested the speed at home in bandar tun razak, it stayed stable at around 150kbps and normally would go up to around 250kbps. at a stretch, the speed stayed at around 650kbps.....it's not fast but hey it's an improvement over the around 56k dial up speed it was running since my trial 8 day period ended...

i'm wondering if maybe the outage that i've been experiencing is a sign that they're upgrading their network...or maybe i'm getting faster speed because everybody has terminated their service and therefore there's less people to clog the network heh smile.gif

actually u mobile does not piggy back on celcom for their broadband service. it's using their own HSDPA network. that's why the service coverage is quite limited

u mobile only use celcom for their voice roaming service

I hope the next time you pay them a visit, it would be an instant refund on the spot but hopefully, you never need to pay them any visit at all.

When I went for refund, the staff there asked me to wait coz they said they will put another basestation near my place.
I dont want to take the chances. 24month is a very long wait if the problem persists.

the service at my place (bandar tun razak cheras) is getting ridiculous now. can't seem to get signal at all with the modem. and when i got signal it would only be for a while and then no signal again even when i leave it on for hours. lucky for me i have my moto v3x to use as a modem which get signal all the time (sometimes up to 3 bar). don't know if it's just the network or my modem has gone kaput....

will definitely call them tonite and give them an earful

already called the customer service and the reply that they gave me was "you place is not in our coverage area". that was really a disappointing answer for me to hear for a problem that only started to happen to me only for the past 2 weeks in which I can't seem to get signal when using my modem and can't connect to the service even when I got full bar.

the main reason i subscribed to this service was because during the 8 day trial period and for the past 2 months i have no problem using the u mobile service even though it's so slow but now suddenly they say my place is not covered. anybody have any idea on what i should do? force them to terminate my 2 year contract perhaps?

oh, it works on mac, thought took me awhile to figure out why it didnt work earlier on.
technical support didnt help.

took a Umobile modem on last Monday at BTS. Using speedtest.net, cannot even finish downloadong the test. Stay at Subang Bestari. Planning to return it today. Was thinking to change a 3G plan with unlimited broadband basic 384Kbps, which will cost me RM 68 monthly. I realized that my P1 can use as USB modem, no need to waste around RM 600. Just plug n play with laptop/pc. Ahax. Tried the Celcom speed, 348kbps, much much better than UMobile.

so far...the download speed is acceptable from the testing result above but the upload speed seem like a little bit slow...and so, with 2000++KBPS i should get around 200++ kbps download speed...However, the download speed which i test from RAPIDSHARE juz can run up to 3-5kbps...same case happen which i try in Easyshare.....even i go for forum surfing...i have to take quite long time to finish loading a page...is tat any user face the same problem like me??

Let us just wait for wimax and forget about this MITV company. Wat u expect? It fails to compete with astro and wind up its tv business and hope to make a come back being a internet or mobile provider..but too bad with service like this, i bet with you that it would wind up again by year end when wimax is launched by P1.

just got the modem, will do the testing when it's activated. the sales guy said it should take 2 days before i can use.

a friend of mine is using it. it seems ok.. she can surf the net, blogging, download some songs & pics. just normal stuff, no torrents. she lives in ampang by the way, near bdr baru ampang..

after about 2 months of surfing with substandard speed with U Mobile, I would like to report that they're now quite fast. Gone are the days when I can't even watch Youtube as now I can consistently get around 500-800kbps while loading up Youtube. Windows Update is even faster breaching the 1Mbps barrier easily. I don't know if this is temporary but I've been getting this good service for almost a week now. Keeping hopes up high now (i did have this kind of performance during my 8 days trial period before) and hopefully this time they've really improved their service...

p/s: i live in Bandar Tun Razak btw, so I guess maybe people from neighboring area can also comment on the speed...

i' ve been registered with u mobile broadband for more then a month oredi n:
1. everyday when reach home after work try to use, can last about 15 minutes only n after that, either limited service or no coverage
2. weekend try to use, also same n sometime cannot even use at all
3. what kind of f**king broadband is this man..............
4. this week they send me a bill ask me to pay rm 78 for monthly fees??????
5. if kota damansara still develope, i can understand la but damansara utama? subang jaya? still develope mehhh???
*
i got the "limited service" problem all the time. i thought that it's a network issue so i tried the service with other modems and guess what, no such problem. i think it's rather the supplied modem that's just not so good. so in my case, every time i get the "limited service" problem, i just switch to my motorola 3g phone and use it as a modem. else you can try other modems too.

anyway, calls to the customer service center would probably just raise ur blood pressure. everytime i call them they would give me different answers and 1 guy have the guts to tell me that my area is not in their coverage area. i mean how can u not be in the coverage area when you're getting full far?

Thanks for sharing the feedback. smile.gif
I was wondering .. since you are in TTDI area .. seems to be pretty good. How about the Damansara Perdana .. ? unsure.gif
Do they come over to your house to let you take a look at the signal strength before doing anything ?
Thanks.

I'm thinking of trying this u-mobile...but RM78 with 24 months contract AND a RM799 penalty is ridiculous. You can buy those modem for RM400 outside.

Furtheremore, what if it sucks after 1 month?? Pretty dangerous...like signing up with the devil...furtheremore, no confidence in Vincent Tan ventures...all half hearted job, like MITV, day 1 it launched with those crappy free to air satellite channels i knew it's going to die. I was right.

But i was thinking of signing of the U38 voice plan...can get 2 months free surfing...is it really "free" or do you have to pay?? Anyone tried?

I tried U Mobile for 6 days at Damansara Damai. Good signal even though they say my area has no coverage. The only provider with HSDPA speed there. I do get speeds up to 2Mbps sometimes.

My only complaints are the 2-year contract, and the fact that every 10-15 minutes the HSDPA will degrade down to 3G during which I cannot surf the Internet (though remain connected to U Mobile network). It will stay so for a few minutes before going back to HSDPA when I can start surfing again.

At RM 78 per month with free modem thrown in, it's a fantastic offer. just that for now I'll stay with Celcom a little bit longer until they are more stable and has wider coverage.

As far as i am concerned, i have no problem with u-mobile although in the beginning there is some problem related to configuration. Signal is strong in Kelana Jaya. It's as good as streamyx, and occasional near to 2 mbps. Service is good too, maybe becos they are still new. ;-)

The subscription ($78) is relatively "cheap" too if you take into consideration that you dont have to pay fixed phone charges from terrorkom (RM25-phone rental + RM66- internet charges).

I experienced that too - just keep on connecting, you will be connected eventually. Just turn off that sound though ( I hate it when it goes "tada!" whenever it fails to connect!)

Is U-mobile using celcom line? Coz seems like U-mobile have the same problem, speed as celcom 3g. Like suddenly become 3g and become no connection. Wait a few minutes and back to hsdpa and continue to surf. Btw, i'm using celcom at vista komanwel blk a 7th floor.

Went to BTS yesterday to re-register. Was told that they ran out of stock and will be launching a new promo come 1st July. No details, hopefully something exciting enough to justify the 2 year contract.

*ahem*... let me enlighten you all about this... (u can get the details from www.u.com.my)
UM is not using Celcom 3G as UM have their own 3G coverage. But now limited to certain areas withing Klang Valley...
That's why UM broadband was offered for Klang Valley dwellers as of now
As for normal phone calling, if you are calling from somewhere outside the UM 3G coverage, then the Celcom coverage will kicks in...

Guys, U-mobile got some new plans including a D68 plan currently at RM58 during promotion time.

Still got 5GB cap limit...

Their T&C also quite long...one that catches my eye:

============
4. If you subscribe to this Service as a data plan only, you must not use the USIM we supply to you to access and you will not be able to access, other services such as voice calls, voice mail, SMS and MMS. If you are able to access such services, you will be charged for your use of such services at our prevailing rates.
==========

Sounds like a potential repeat of the Celcom RM8K incident ?? sweat.gif

The statement shows they have no control on their system? tongue.gif

Don't be so happy, their 3G service is only limited to Klang Valley. Outside of Klang valley, they're tapping to Celcom 3G/2G services. I'm not sure if you can get HSDPA outside of klang valley...Maybe celcom will give priority to Celcom customer first and kick out all u-mobile subscriber when it overloads. brows.gif

I am well aware of that fact, Matrix. The only place outside KV where I will be requiring mandatory net access in the foreseeable future is out the country, in which case not even Siowcom has coverage. Heh tongue.gif

something like this... http://www.moresales.com.my/catalog/entry/zjqatcxw.shtml
5g is for 'fair usage'... as M'sia government will not allow any ISP to provide unlimited download cap for normal public usage...

Well I dunno, when I was with Streamyx I rarely get above 500k when testing overseas. Are you on their 4Mbps pipe ( and paying a bomb for it? smile.gif ) ?

Anyway, tested again today...

You can get much faster activation by registering at their concept showroom at Berjaya Times Square - I registered around 3pm and 4 hours later I was online. ;-)

Honestly I do not know. But U mobile fits my needs just nice as I do not normally require mobile net access outside the Klang Valley. Add to that also, they are the only HSDPA provider where I am wink.gif

I'm using CELCOM...even if i access using U-mobile APN , it can connect but still shows 'MY CELCOM'.

The throughput is depends on the location and how many people are connected to the nodeB.

I believe if you are standing in front of the UMobile and Maxis nodeB, you will be getting good throughput for sure.

Getting good throughput from one location doesn't guarantee good throughput in another location.

Maxis and Celcom definitely will win in term of network coverage but U Mobile will win in term of network congestion because they definitely have the least users in the network at the moment.

shocking.gif I juz registered U-Mobile yesterday at wangsa maju....

I need to know these things really badly because I don't trust what they said when I asked them

1.Is there a download limit in a month?
2.P2P connection allowed?
3.Any hidden charges or penalty when terminating the service?
4.Is the IP , dynamic or static?

The sales guy keep saying no no no but I really DOUBT it.... as I sell maxis broadband last time and really know all the dirty tricks they used

i would have to say the speed is very inconsistent...it can be really fast at times and really slow other time....

anyway just would like to share my U Mobile story with u guys. i think i'm 1 of the pioneer of using Surf with U as i subscribed immediately to the U Surf RM78 plan (modem included) after the launched in March. anyway, the 1st 1 week was really good as i constantly experience speed upwards of 1 Mbps/sec. however, afterwards everything went downhill and i was connecting at speeds around 100 kbps only, hardly something u would expect from an HSDPA connection.

anyway, about 2 months ago, i started to get really fast connection again, but after 1 week or so, my modem started to behave really weird. it would constantly gave me the "Limited Service" "Not Found" status in the dialer. when i switched to my mobile phone and connect from there, everything is OK. made a few calls to customer service and most of the time their answer to me would "Sorry sir, you area is outside our coverage area"....i was like what? somehow only after 1 month+ of using the service my area suddenly become out of coverage.

so i resort to another way to test for connection and that is i went to Times Square and tried to connect there. I still got the same problem and cannot connect. so i just went up to the U Mobile store and ask them for help. to my disappointment, the person that helped me said that they're just having some network issue and that's why i can't connect. i came again a few days later and still i got the same problem, i went to the store again and the guy who helped me this time tested a few things and concluded that the problem is with my MODEM!!! it's broken and can't seem to connect in 3G mode.

so i went to lowyat service center and got the modem replaced in less that 10 minutes without even asking a single question.

moral of the story here is that, for those having bundled ZTE modem, be careful if you start having "Limited Service" or got signal but the status is only "C" rather than "PC" as your modem might be problematic. 2nd, don't waste your time with U Mobile customer service, they have no idea about the service that they're offering thus those "Sorry your area is out of coverage area" respond to my problems. 3rd, if u think you have problems with your modem, go ahead to the service center and get it replaced.

such a pity that a good and visionary company such as u mobile - their internet access is OK and their mobile TV service is GREAT! - have such poor customer service. currently i would not commit myself to their other service until they become more experienced and beef up their customer service.

anyway despite all those rumblings, i highly recommend U Mobile Broadband service, better than Maxis and Celcom (i've used both before) for me la at least smile.gif

this is what i gather from many "broadband" forum..

##########################################################################
Celcom D68....
normal speed 384kbps ....once u reach 5GB monthly thingy...then cap at 80kbps....until next month.

(register and cancel Celcom D68 twice)

Thumb Up,
Coverage superb in my testing at Setapak and Sentul and my hometown..Sitiawan.

Digi Edge...
normal speed 256kbps but latency killing my surfing, frequently no activity..
No Cap as far i know.

download not stable!!!

OK only

Coverage superb in my testing at Setapak and Sentul and my hometown..Sitiawan.

###########################################################################
Currently,i am testing
U-Mobile......

Paying on D58(until end Dec)......my download can achieve up to 2.5Mbps but usually only 1Mbps consistently downloading.

Use up my 5GB "fair usuage policy" within two days.....and now been cap at 384kbps..

Coverage is fair as i only get only one to two bar signal on my USB AirCard on Setapak and Sentul.

Will be testing at my hometown this coming end of the month.

I am happy with U-Mobile even though they cap me at 384kpbs unlike Celcom D68 cap me to 80 kbps..

Yeah, at night especially, the speed will drop from HSDPA to UMTS. Still better than Sialcom though where even UMTS is blaaaardy slow.

I am really really dissappointed with this U-Mobile........ their promoter is really the worse ever,
They would lie about everything juz to get their product sold~!!!

At 1st he said there is no download + upload limit... no capping of speed... no banning of p2p (all those sweet words you want to hear)

Then when I ask him about this promotion without their modem (RM58) he said no problem.... can use phone as modem

Then I called the service center today just to know the opposite!!! they say this data plan can only be used with HSPDA modem (WTF??)

1st time call their service center, I complained the sim card registration failed
Re: Im sorry Sir, Your area doesn't seem to be in our coverage , our 3g is divided between celcom and u-mobile, most probably you're in celcom
area (huh???? that guy said this whole area is in their coverage (setapak , wangsa maju)

2nd time call their service center, This time is a guy , I ask whether im in the coverage area or not and want to ask how to use phone as a modem
Re: Yes Sir, your area is inside our coverage, Sim Card registration failed? err... please wait sir let me check awhile (5minutes later)
Ok sir, im sorry but , you can't use phone as your modem (then why I buy it for?)
Me: But other users can use phone as their modem, so why mine can't? even your promoter guarantee it
Re: Im sorry Sir, but using the phone as a modem is only possible when u using the mobile broadband plan.... (huh?? why I didn't hear anything about this????)
Me : Fine , HOW DO I TERMINATE THIS SERVICE? any charges I need to pay??
Re: Erm... No Sir, there are no charges , you just need to go to our service center to terminate it and pay the 5% government tax...
Me : shocking.gif 5% government tax of???
Re : Don't worry Sir, they will calculate for you when u reach at our service center
Me : *duuttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt*

conclusion: Im fed up of their customer service, im going down to Times Square this Saturday and going to give them a WAKE UP CALL

Wolf516,
- which package that u r actually getting? the normal Postpaid/Prepaid sim pack or the SurfwithU?
- if u r on Postpaid/Prepaid, then u can still use it for internet but the Data Rate will be charged
- if u r on SurfwithU, any 3g phone or HSPDA modem can be used. No fuss about it
- for coverage, forget about what the customer service told u about 'our 3g is divided between celcom and u-mobile'... 100% wrong info
- as it's for normal phone call for celcom, not 3g
- setapak is covered by Umobile 3g, that's for sure
- btw, on your part where u slot the simcard to n95 and it gave error, could be the simcard problem. go to Sunway or BTS to find the staffs there. they will able to help.

xpresside,
- activation normally will be slow nowadays especially from customer service
- of course, there are *ways* to check this if u know how... ;P

probably the uMobile CS misunderstanding yr statement.

speculation only(handphone act as modem)
-they lack of setup guide for the each model handphone.
-they want you buy their modem & they only have one setup guide hmm.gif

whatever salesperson promise, do some research.
-take down their name,
-the company name & service number,
anything go wrong, lodge report to uMobile CS. let them have a good warning.

pls correct me if i'm wrong. peace everyone icon_rolleyes.gif

hi wolf, you still having problem with the SIM card registration fail? if you're past that stage already, how're you connecting with you N95? are you using Nokia PC suit? or are you connecting it directly? like for me myself I'm using Motorola V3x as my 2nd modem (and during the time my ZTE modem was down and those CS told me that I was out of coverage area while actually the modem is faulty) and it works just fine.

anyway when using my motorola, I just switch the motorola to data connection mode, connect it to the PC, and setup a new dial up connection. just enter the *99# into the dialing number and no username or password required. now here come the tricky part. for my motorola there's no way to set the APN number anywhere....so what i actually have to do is go to control panel, phone and modem options, find my motorola modem and put the APN in the Extra Initialization commands in the advance modem properties. it goes something like this cgdcont=1, "IP", "my3g" (i don't remember the exact command but it's something like that)...can somebody help me here? heh...

so for those trying to connect using phone, if you guys are not entering the APN number anywhere in the PC suit or something, do give my suggestion a try as previously when I tried connecting using my Motorola Phone Tools, i just can't conenct since I've not entered the APN number in the modem settings as unlike other mobile operators, U Mobile settings are not available directly (when i was using celcom and maxis, it setup automatically).

hopefully this information helps. and for those going to Berjaya Times Square to give them an earful, try this 1st and then go shout at them and give them some lesson on customer service.

Anyway im going to bring it back to them this weekend...... and if by any chance im going to give it a second chance... it better work or im going to throw a grenade to their office.

they can't really give excuse saying many people using at night..if so they should have thought it in the first place, and upgrade the switching networks... beginning to behave like sialkom i think...

they are on "SialCom" bandwidth mah..

Both U Mobile and SialCom have same fair usage policy 5GB per month..

Somewhere i read that if if u soooo unlucky that they cap u...

then it really sial fo SialCOm

D68...384kbps to 80kbps ( my own experience)
D98..3.6Mbps to 384kbps

U Mobile...U58(offer until Dec08)..lator D68

3.6Mbps to 384kbps..

Celcom coverage is much much better but capping killing me..

Since i got coverage at my working place and my house....

Using U Mobile rocks rocks rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Why the ping time to KL server is so high?
I ping using streamyx is about 33ms only.

Anyone tested the voice over ip quality and video streaming quality?

Partially true, higher but not as high as 260ms.
Inside Malaysia, shouldn't be ~120ms.

You can check the Izzi Net site to see the ping time there.

The nodeB already be able to support up to 14.4Mbps. I believe it's only software tweak to open the 7.2Mbps. Most of the 3.5G dongle can support up to 7.2Mbps now. So becareful when shopping for 3.5G device, make sure you get the Category 7 or 8 device.

Yeah, been experiencing that too. Continuous attempts to reconnect gave error 619 - I had to unplug and replug the modem before I could reconnect successfully.

I tried P1 WiMax at PC Fair today. Looks promising. Current speed (NOT bandwidth) is capped to 2.4Mbps according to the personnel at their booth.

which was one of the reasons why I swicthed from Siowcom to U Mobile. This Siowcom, my area is between Sierramas Valencia and Bandar Sri Damansara, two supposedly elite neighbourhoods, and the cel co which has been bragging 'widest / fastest' coverage has a meagre UMTS coverage only!

In that regard alone my rclxms.gif goes to U Mobile.

they haven't go full scale yet.

they need more (user)water fish for quota or the bandwidth still under-utilize hmm.gif

whichever reach it peak "user/bandwidth". they cap bandwidth without notice.

next thing u know, user start complaining U-Mobile su8k, same old grandpa story like Maxis or Celcom.

my only tips for user, download all you can laugh.gif b4 they start capping yr bandwidth.

i think ur statement is bias. when Celcom came out 1.5 years back, it was FASTTTTTTTTTTT. now like turtle, too many users. depends on area too. Some place where there are not many user, the speed is wayyyyy much better, stable etc.

try u Mobile elsewhere, or try in Sandakan, can u get mobile broadband? NO

Of course it's biased. After having used Celcom which keeps touting the widest coverage and unbeatable speed while paying through your nose for dismal connection quality, you cannot afford not to be biased. Celcom's 3G coverage in the supposedly elite area of Sierramas Valencia and Bandar Sri Damansara is pretty bad - never mind HSDPA (non existent). True U Mobile is not available everywhere, but they are not boasting about having widest coverage (they do have the widest HSDPA coverage though). Most people I know turn to wireless broadband not so much to be mobile but because they are looking for alternative to Streamyx.

To be honest, I do expect U Mobile to go downhill sooner or later. But at least it's not charging people a bomb for it. It's a good RM40 cheaper than Celcom, and the CSRs are much friendlier too.

celcom nowadays are very bad/low class ISP.when i register it about 1year ago,the speed quite satisfied with no lagging at all.now when everybody turn to BB,celcom still not upgrading their services.i pay for something that very slow.-sigh-

i wonder when Malaysia's ISP going to achieve 1st class rank if only tmnut are the main ISP.need more competitor in this to help it achieve the quality and the speed. sad.gif

Hi. I'm new user of u mobile. I'm using SE K630 as modem, since my download speed can go past 100kB/s that means I'm on HSDPA right? I want to ask is there anyway to go past the 921.6kbps limit on xp's dial up connection? The SE Pc Suite defaults at 460.8kbps. I remembered that the k630 can support until 1.8Mbps HSDPA.
