Perhaps, did u ever lost ur IC or Driving Licence ? Have u ever be a guarantor ?
It is weird when a fresh degree holder with stable job ( plus clean credit record ) would be rejected.

Yes, I agree. It's rather weird but not to jump to conclusions, just make that check at Bank Negara.
I know a friend who had a similar problem - clean record, no debt and suddenly when want to make loan/credit card application was rejected by every bank. Finally, one bank mentioned that the name was blacklisted in FIS/CTOS due to someone failed to make payment many years back and the bank proceeded to blacklist the borrower and guarantors. This friend was the guarantor and unknowingly got blacklisted for something he/she did not do. (I think it's unfair to the guarantor)

nvm just saw your reply. HSBC is pretty strict on cc application. maybe you have an ongoing application for homeloan or car loan (or something which parents put under ur name?).
otherwise just go for the local bank's credit cards, if ur starting salary is high enough, u can even get gold card straight.
nah....never lost anything before. guarantor oso never. guess that citi and hsbc was too strict gua. but today i called to check on my DA card and it's approved already. will be sending to me by next wk, at least i dun hav 2 go to the bank negara trip juz to check whether i'm blacklisted. otherwise just go for the local bank's credit cards, if ur starting salary is high enough, u can even get gold card straight.

I just remembered something ... if you apply HSBC card, make sure you do not have 2 pending approval application from other banks. HSBC can see this information when they do their checking on an individual. If such a scenario occurs, HSBC's policy is to reject your application irrespective you are a potential "to be" approved customer. (Means you have no problems and under normal circumstances, your application stands to be approved)
Ic.....guess that could be one of their reason for decline my application. but anyway, they could be the one losing out as i plan to do a lot of shopping with my new cc card.
