@vin_ann,
U could always verify through UOB's website; I'm sure it'll be posted on their website should they have such promotions/contest.  Well, I hold a UOB credit card but I haven't received such SMSes.  I'll check with sis if she received any when I see her later.

yeah. found the promotion.

"Drive Away A BMW 320i, BMW 523i Or A BMW X5 3.0si With UOB Credit Cards"

now i need to pump RM50 minimum petrol or spend RM50 minimum to get 1 entry.

Guess they've officially "merge" with CIMB. Not sure if the 2% petrol rebate still applicable or not.

Really can't find Direct Access info at the merged site.

Perhaps you can give DA CS a call to confirm.

one thing that baffles me. why on earth do you guys want to keep upgrading?
does one knows that the annual charges of a platinum card is not exactly "token fee"?

so what if you've got it waived? but for how long? or how much does it cost you to remained waived subsequently?

it's a good thing that directaccess cards are free(without any CAVEATS). the rest have some interesting ways of masking their charges, weaving it with conditions.

Added on May 4, 2008, 7:01 pmfor those of you who likes to switch cards(and canceling the former), there could be implications to your credit history.

Actually you can always negotiate the terms with the bank so you do not have to call in every year to ask them to waive the annual fee for you for Platinum credit card. For instance, Standard Chartered Priority Banking customers usually are offered only either a free for life VISA Platinum or Mastercard Platinum as long as you maintain your status as their priority customer but some of these privileged few managed to get both VISA Platinum and Mastercard Platinum. You just need to negotiate with them.

I'm not talking about logging into CIMBClicks to view DA statement.

I'm taking about going to DA info page. I still get HTTP 404 Not Found error message upon clicking Direct Banking at CIMB Bank homepage.

For once, I have to agree with siutimtim. It makes no sense to have your financial record bad just because you apply and cancel your card. The bank which issues you the card may temporarily blacklist you from applying again to their bank but to affect all of your applications with other banks - sounds very far fetched. blink.gif

Appreciate anyone who could verify this story about applying and canceling credit cards will make credit history looks bad. blink.gif

it's sad that alot of folks are ignorant about credit ratings and how it impacts their ability to draw credit from financiers.
