Thank you all for all the replies. Appreciated it.
So here are the details for pure (non-MBB) AMEX Gold CC,
1. Maybank is doing the handling so application form goes to them.
2. For Malaysian, you do not need to be a Maybank customer, now or in the future when you got the card.
3. You can use your other bank's cheque to pay for the AMEX bills at any MBB branch cheque deposit machine.
So how widely or restricted are the merchant accepting this AMEX credit card? Does Air Asia takes them? I am asking because in most online merchant payment, there is a drop down list of type of credit card and from memories, there are usually either MC or VISA. Never taken note of AMEX, hence asking.
In Malaysia? Amex is not as widely accepted as MC/Visa. Merchants are charged a lil more commission if we swipe Amex, so smaller shops (which we have alot of) don't wanna bear the charges, and usually forgo Amex.
Was in Tokyo recently, Amex was practically accepted everywhere =p

Don’t worry, we won’t be bumping into each other.

Yeah, that's the advantage of having a charge card!
The statement will only show a lump sum and will not reveal the details of conversion and admin charges. If you don’t mind, appreciate if you could share with us info on the conversation rates of your Amex and other cc for the transactions made on the same day. I guess no matter what, Amex’s rate is still slightly higher than others.
Haha yea, exactly why I want a charge card. Although they do have a single transaction limit which is hidden, you can just call them in advance and tell them you're gonna be doing that. Once you make the purchase, settle promptly, future purchases of that amount and below will go through without problems

Ah ok, so should be including admin charges already. Sure, here's 2 simple comparisons:
(both had transaction dates of 28/08/2009)
Amex1,620 JAPANESE YEN BILLED AS - RM62.71
Direct Access Master Card2,000 Yen - RM76.90
So including admin charges, that roughly works out to conversion rates of (for every 1k yen) 38.709 for Amex vs 38.45 for DA MC
Hope that helps
