But I don't want a Maybank AMEX. And as I said, there are no instruction/address/phone number on the application form itself as to where to send the completed application to.

Sorry, I should have make another thing clear, beside not wanting MBB logo. I also do not want to have a Maybank account because I already have too many accounts and find it hard to keep track of them all. The link you provided says i must have one. Hence thinking of getting one issued by American Express itself and then go to Maybank to do monthly card payment using my other bank's cheque.

Amex does not issue any card by itself. All amex cards (charge cards,credit cards,co branded credit cards) are issued by Maybank

If you open the AMEX Platinum CC (not bearing MBB logo) application form from AMEX website, they'll ask you to call 603-22958877 if you have any doubts which is exactly the same number that I posted out earlier. This application form also requested you to mail in the filled form with supporting documents to Maybankard Centre at Menara Maybank. It doesn't require you to have an account with Maybank. Maybank serves at the channel or middleman.

Perhaps you may give a call to the aforementioned number.

Anyways I'm assuming Optiplex wants a charge card. So yea, fastest way is to call them up and ask for a fax number. Or you could snail mail it to the credit card department at Menara Maybank

@Optiplex330,
The Amex Gold CC will come with a M2U account. If U don't want to use the account then just trash the PIN and don't activate the M2U lah *smiles*

Ah ok. Regardless @Optiplex : as David mentioned, you could call for a fax number. Or snail mail to Menara Maybank. I think you can drop it off at branches as well

I spent >RM8k over the Merdeka Hols.  I just couldn't wait till 1st September to swipe the card; guess I won't be getting the Longines.  I did also just swipe RM10k today but I'm not sure if I still am within the 1st 100 or not!

Ah well... at least I know I probably get the Delsey bag if I don't get the Longines watch.  Not like it's v nice anyways tongue.gif

Hi Tinkerbell,

When is the posting date for the merdeka swipe? If it yesterday, then you stand a quite good chance to get it.

I think AMEX is most efficient posting date compared to other 2 cards..

Only foreigners who wish to apply for the AMEX Gold credit card must open a Maybank account.

Thank you all for all the replies. Appreciated it.

So here are the details for pure (non-MBB) AMEX Gold CC,
1. Maybank is doing the handling so application form goes to them.
2. For Malaysian, you do not need to be a Maybank customer, now or in the future when you got the card.
3. You can use your other bank's cheque to pay for the AMEX bills at any MBB branch cheque deposit machine.

So how widely or restricted are the merchant accepting this AMEX credit card? Does Air Asia takes them? I am asking because in most online merchant payment, there is a drop down list of type of credit card and from memories, there are usually either MC or VISA. Never taken note of AMEX, hence asking.

I used it for personal use. Yea, I'm aware their admin fee is the highest, but charge card gives me the peace of mind since there's no limit. Plus I prefer to make purchases using my main card where possible.

The amount has appeared on my statement. Does that include admin fee already? Or admin fee appears as a seperate charge in the statement later on? If inclusive, wasn't too big a difference from the transaction where I used my CC instead.
*
Yeah, that's the advantage of having a charge card!

The statement will only show a lump sum and will not reveal the details of conversion and admin charges. If you don’t mind, appreciate if you could share with us info on the conversation rates of your Amex and other cc for the transactions made on the same day. I guess no matter what, Amex’s rate is still slightly higher than others.

Just receive my statement in hard copy, quite confusing as i never tick the "charge of RM5.00 if you wish to receive the hard copy statement" in application form, and they didn't charge RM 5.00 on my bill, the paper was not hard copy? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

Not really ... it's part due to the merchant efficiency level as well. Likely the merchant which you bought your stuff posted the transaction at the end of closing day / same day. AMEX picked it up and immediately posted it in your account the next day.

In Malaysia? Amex is not as widely accepted as MC/Visa. Merchants are charged a lil more commission if we swipe Amex, so smaller shops (which we have alot of) don't wanna bear the charges, and usually forgo Amex.

Was in Tokyo recently, Amex was practically accepted everywhere =p

Haha yea, exactly why I want a charge card. Although they do have a single transaction limit which is hidden, you can just call them in advance and tell them you're gonna be doing that. Once you make the purchase, settle promptly, future purchases of that amount and below will go through without problems wink.gif

Ah ok, so should be including admin charges already. Sure, here's 2 simple comparisons:
(both had transaction dates of 28/08/2009)

Amex
1,620 JAPANESE YEN BILLED AS - RM62.71

Direct Access Master Card
2,000 Yen - RM76.90

So including admin charges, that roughly works out to conversion rates of (for every 1k yen) 38.709 for Amex vs 38.45 for DA MC

Hope that helps smile.gif

Yesterday I go to amex malaysia website to register a online account to view my points. But when I enter my account number that printed at front of my amex card, there is a error.

We're Sorry...
For some reason the Card account that you attempted to register cannot be registered with American Express Online Services. Please contact Customer Service for further assistance.

May I know what is happen here? Is that my account not yet active?

@arsenal,
I'm not sure when the posting date was cause I haven't checked; honestly I'm not even bothered to lah. Maybe if I'd paid RM800 AF this year I would be most kan cheong and would definitely want to ensure I've won it but since I didn't have to pay the RM800 this year then it's fine lah smile.gif

Also, when I spoke with the CS last week to enquire about my Amex Gold CC, I was told this particular contest follows Transaction Date and not Posting Date. I checked with him twice because the X6 contest was based on Posting Date.

What card are you using? For charge cards, you should register on the amex website, but for credit cards, you'll have to register at m2u

@tinkerbel
CS was telling me it's transaction date as well, just to collaborate info =)
