Funny! Today I received an Amex charge card via Poslaju although I did not submit an application for it! MBB cc agent did approach me for Amex few months ago but I rejected the offer. How could the bank send the pre-approved card to me directly?

Anyway, I'll definitely cancel this card as I don't need too many cards. Moreover, Amex is not widely accepted in M'sia, and the 8x points promotion is finishing soon right?

I'd probably charge RM50 on petrol and thus I'll be entitled for a free laptop bag. After receiving the bag I'll cancel the card immediately.

For those who have already received thd laptop bag, how soon did you get your bag after receiving your 1st month statement? Did they charge courier fee?

This has happened not only to MBB Amex, but also to other banks (visa and master). I used to redeem hypermarket vouchers. Last time, an RM50 voucher required 10,000 points, but it has been increased to >12,000 points now. I notice that CIMB still maintain the old points requirement for redemption of RM50 voucher, if I'm not mistaken.

How long did it take to receive the laptop bag from the day you received your 1st month statement? I'm awating mine too, and after that I will cancel it.

Isn't Amex operation in M'sia taken over by MBB? This cc should be issued by MBB then. Regardless of who the issuer is, we are more concerned for benefits offered by this Amex cc.

Well, MBB sent me Amex gold charge card last month although I didn't apply for it. At the back of this card, it reads like this: THIS CARD IS ISSUED BY MBB PURSUANT TO A LICENSE FROM AMEX. I believe MBB took over operation of Amex in M'sia by contributing a contract fee and incentive fee to Amex. MBB owns the rights to operate it with the license from Amex.

With this, I think the monthly statements of all Amex cards in M'sia are sent out directly from Amex office owned by MBB in M'sia, don't need to go through its regional HQ in Hong Kong.

Pertaining to overseas transactions, the foreign currency is first converted to USD, before the USD is converted back to RM. In the event that it involves two conversions, the 2.5% commission charge is only applied to the 1st conversion from foreign currency to USD.

You are lucky one because it's difficult to get AF waiver for Amex Plat charge or credit card, according to one of my friends working in banking industry. Btw, you apply for Amex gold cc while having Amex Plat cc? Do update us on the result of your application if you receive the cc.

If the AF for Amex Plat is waivable, this will definitely boost its business as most of the existing visa and mastercard Plat cardholders are reluctant to downgrade themselves to own an Amex gold card. A good news!

In overseas, for Centurion Black cardholders, once they go black, they never go back. Same thing applies to Plat cardholders here, very few people are willing to go back to gold, unless the benefits are irresistible!

Eh...what I meant was, if the AF for Plat is waiveable, why not possess it if you are qualified? I am also reluctant to pay AF for any cards, not even if the AF is reduced to RM80. It's ridiculous to pay the RM800 AF!I'd rather wait till a clearer situation that AF for Plat is comfirmed waiveable, then I'll decide whether I wanna apply for it. Although the newly-launched Amex gold cc looks OK, it doesn't attract me much compared to other CCs offering high cash rebates. However if Amex Plat cc is also free for life, it will be a different story then!

Anyhow, I think girls are more concerned about bill settlement by guys rather than seeing what kinda cards guys are holding. I should put a non-discriminatory statement here.

Eh...but Dozz has publicly announced that he managed to get the AF waived. Perhaps Amex is more flexible now as its gold cc is already free for life. But I still need to get a clearer picture before I decide on my next course of action.

I will always make sure that I keep at least RM200 cash in my wallet. No all merchants accept cc. Hey...RM50 is too little though....

It's because you are holding Amex Plat cc? It's kinda strange if one holds both Gold and Plat for same card.

If you have other CCs, 20k CL is considered OK. Like what you said earlier, you'll use it mainly for petrol transactions. How to use up 20k per month for petrol????

Just wanna get an update from you. The AF for your Amex Plat cc has been waived and the waiver is updated in Amex system? Or it's just a verbal promise from the CS staff?

But then, I recall that some forummers did mention Petronas stations do not recognise Amex credit or charge card.

So you applied for MBB Petronas cc was mainly because of the freebies. But you may need to keep the cc for a few more months if you really wanna help the agent to get her commission.

MBB Petronas is NOTHING now if compared with other newer CCs offering high cash rebate rates and reward points.
