Hmm the installer never gave me my voip password. Can ask from tm through phone? Do i need it to use the voip phone?
*
Not sure if can ask through phone. Try calling the TM contractor who came to install.

You don't need it to use your phone if your phone is already set up.

I got it just in case I wanted to go the GPON stick route.

Previously, I only had my PPPOE pwd.
So this time, I got the PLOAM or they call it ONU pwd and the VOIP pwd when the TM contractor came over.

Good to hear as my phone is already setup. I will try the dlink over the weekend just to see if everything works.

I not sure why my DNS resolving to Google DNS tonight is broken.
Anyone else having similar issue? (With Google DNS)

It looks like some dns records is not served on Google DNS?
I mean most site is resolving by Google DNS,but some specific domain will just answer request timed out.

Edited:
After rebooting router,issue gone.
Looks like my previous unifi ip was banned by Google DNS. (Might be due to high queries with adguard/smartdns and smokeping)

I m on my way to get my speed upgrade to 1gbps, just checked my current ONU is Alcatel Lucent since 2015 August, should I replace it?

Keep it. Don't let them take it away (my installer mentioned they don't take it anyway).

Yesterday tested the new black DLink ONR bridging, dropped again to 200-300Mbps permanently.
I hooked back the old Huawei modem to get back consistent 800-930Mbps speed. Will check again tonite see if it drop to 300Mbps even when using old Huawei modem.
If it drop, then its the ISP problem, if stable 800-900++, then have to abandon DLink ONR and hope for the best.

If my old Huawei ONU fail, will try to request for Huawei modem replacement. If they still insist on using the black ONR without correcting the situation for bridging, I may as well downgrade my package to 500Mbps, have even better speed than 1GB with 300Mbps bridging.

That's so sad to learn about that.
I abandoned the combobox they gave (did not even bother to really test it out lol) and hooked back the old but trusty Huawei rightaway tongue.gif

Yep, from the black ONR. Though I was standing like about a metre from the router.

I also got that when doing wifi from ONR.

But I got many devices connected via WIFI, then my 2 floor house is larger than the range of the ONR, so using ONR as main router is not an option for me. I can't do wired mesh, so using wireless mesh degrade the connection quality of my connected devices further.

My old trusty Asus GT-AX11000 can reach all parts of my house and the 3 bands split the bandwidth of the many connected devices. Based on Unifi, my household is consider heavy usage, haha 102% more than avg ppl with 800MB last time. I have setup guest network, parental controls, gaming connection (ROG) etc.

So using ONR as main router seems like pushing my connection back to stone-age.

Now I see UNIFI offering WIFI6 ONR for practically all the packages, so likely no more ONU...haiz.. just pray pray my old ONU can last many years more.

It’s not just TM, basically most ISP (even in Singapore) are providing ONR for >1gbps package. I guess it makes sense also that one device does it all and provide the speed that is being offered, of course the ONR must be decent in the first place.

I believe the popular option these days is to use ISP provided ONR and setup WiFi mesh.

Hi guys, I just got an offer to free upgrade from 500 to 800, with 3 months bill waiver. It will come with WiFi 6 combo box, which is modem+wifi in one box. If not mistaken, my existing ZTE modem should be able to easily support 800 with the 1Gbps port. So can I just ask them to do nothing to my setup? I am running a custom setup which uses EdgerouterX as router, and a pair of Deco X68 in AP mode.

Yes can. When the installer come you just tell them to not setup. As long as he do speed test which reaches the subscribed speed, record it in the restoration form, it's consider done. Probably he will just past you the combo router in a box for you to keep.
You may also ask him to setup the combo router but after that plug back the old ONU.

That's nice. The technician can plug his laptop into my EdgerouterX and do speed test .

You can just ask technician to setup the ONR to work as ONR or bridge as ONU. Then keep it as plug and play backup ONU or ONR.

Good idea. I have another question though. The lady on the call said that the wifi6 combo has 12 months warranty. Does it mean that if it fail after 12 months, I will need to pay? Even though the modem part of the combo should be TM responsibility?

Problem is some technicians are really not qualified, at least that was for my case. I asked the technician to setup bridge to use back my existing Asus router, he said can no problem. He fiddled around with the settings for a while, ended up he said he can’t do it and asked me to just configure mesh.

I didn’t want to waste time, I just said ok, ownself login to the D-Link ONR and set it myself, done in 1 minute. laugh.gif

Same here, my blink black ONR on bridge, run smooth and ok for near 4-5 days, for constant 1000mbps. however since yesterday, the speed keep drop to 200-300.
Yet to plug the old ONU. still monitoring how long can last after power reset.

Haven't checked up on here in a long while, but reading the recent posts looks like there's many more people with the black Dlink ONR having the speed drop issue?

At first it was only me reporting it so the suspicion was this was only happening with certain OLTs, but looks like that's not the case if there's more people having the same problem. Or the OLT+ONR combination is more widespread.

I went and applied for the SWU4 500mbps->1gbps offer since I'd rather pay less and dont mind being on contract for that, same speed anyway. By the time the 24 months contract expires there's bound to be a better or similar offer I bet. Funny thing is they're telling me I have to setup a new router, not sure if their system hasn't been updated or they're changing devices again. The CSR at the TMpoint couldn't verify.
