Cost-effective 5G modem with good chipset. Plus compatible with ample band frequencies.
Some more with LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) if the network fall-back.

QUOTE(MR_alien @ Apr 15 2024, 02:09 PM) thn i think i know what your DC reasons is OMG this is life saver. I have been facing disconnect issue (to exact we don’t have any connection for a few days already) terbalik the modem works! thank you so much!try monitor how many bars are you getting, if it's a constant strong 3 bar, doesn't make sense if it drops to 2 bars, thn that might be the reason it went to 4G if u don't wanna move your router, i suggest try to flip the router upside down...trial and error mine at first sim card slot is facing down, now it's facing up |

My Umobile bundled modem/router disconnects on me, everyday a few times. I suspect the router rebooted. It is a MC888S. Apart from that, I am okay with its reception, I am getting 5 bar in signal, even tough it is not as fast as my phone. It is only around 200-300 Mbps. But usable. Regarding the disconnection, you think a complaint to Umobile will work to resolve this issue ? |

You can try it cost less than RM20/= tonynk9 liked this post

QUOTE(tmc @ Nov 1 2024, 03:38 PM) Does it work for you ? It did not work for me. Yeah, it didnt help. I kinda suspect it wont help but tried it anyway since I had a few Tenda AC18 which had the 2A adapter. Still reboot several times after I changed the power supply. Why? Because nowadays a lot of peripherals has a chip that control the voltage input that eventually it will just draw whatever power it needed and thats it. Oversizing the adapter power just put less strain on the adapter itself and had nothing to do with the peripherals. |

If your theoretical is correct, original is 1.5A, your should use 3A or 6A test out, as the 1.5A and 2A (unless branded with solid design) is not much difference in term of power loss! Why? I tested with a 12V 5A power supply which I bought for this purpose. One day when the plane flied over, the router rebooted. Maybe just coincidence. LOL. Randomly there were other times. |

The reboot will not so frequent compare using 1.5A/2A adapter? if so the MC888s suck a lot power and heat generation is quite high! the need to add FAN to blow for lower the temperature! |

Alternative solution to AIO 5G modem
RM520N-GL (RM600, using Qualcomm X62 chipset) M.2 to USB 5G adapter (RM90, convert 520N-GL into USB interface with nano SIM slot) Whichever router that supports OpenWRT (Currently using GL I-Net MT1300, around RM250) - Explicitly need to support QCM (Quectel Modem) protocol and able to use USB modems RM950-RM1000 for a modular 5G router that's modifiable as you see fit, especially with type of antennas you want to use, and the M.2 to USB can be also used directly on Android/Windows as 5G connection. Whole modem can be powered off USB C if using a mini router like Gl-Inet's Speed test in less ideal condition reaches 180Mb DL and 10Mb UL, no locks or pesky manufacturer software as you can control what to put in it » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Attached thumbnail(s) |

I gotta be honest. I just changed my ZTE modem to another place, then got stable 4G connection. At this point, I don't care about 5G anymore. Feels like this country sucks at managing 5G network..
I got DL speed of 50Mbps+- and ping 20ms+-. No sudden restart, stable 24hrs. Until i got extra money to buy other 3rd party modem, I'll keep it this way. Stream 4k, playing games, cctv etc, no issue. I'm happy. |

I think there is no issue with U Mobile 5G, it is the router that given by them is problematic.
I'm using my own Zyxel router and has no issues with 5G anywhere I go, it is high speed all the time. No random disconnections etc. |

It is time to tear it apart... maybe add some cooling and see the result... I'm using my own Zyxel router and has no issues with 5G anywhere I go, it is high speed all the time. No random disconnections etc. Also considering to purchase one in the used market... personally Im happy with the 5G speed and also pricing regardless of the disconnection issue with the stock router. |

Finally took it apart. Before this I already removed the case and the whole thing is cool to touch after I used a 120mm to cool it. It was strange why it was so cool. Maybe because they cheapskate on some thermal pads? I'm gonna take out the wifi module since I don't use it and see if it still works.

I've replaced more than 5 times. The last modem lasted me almost 2 months before it started to disconnect and random reboot.I'm using my own Zyxel router and has no issues with 5G anywhere I go, it is high speed all the time. No random disconnections etc. They should change the ZTE modem to others. Never take Kaon, useless. Low signal reception. |

Last time i opened up the casing and use 80mm to cool off. Doesn't work, still reboot. The one that heat up the most is the modem module. Probably can't handle heat on 5G network. For 4G, the module cool as the breeze. |
