Finally pull the trigger during 9.9 buying the TPlink NX510v to replace my old MR6400 to pair with U Home 5G, so far using it fine but before adding the router cooler fan can feel the heat radiating from the bottom part of the router around the row of LED in the front. One thing i notice tho, nowadays is kinda hard to hit around 600mbps dload speed i got when 1st using the router, it hovers around 300-350mbps recently. Could be because the amount 5G users building up i guess, welp still faster than my old 4G connection or getting a lowly 30mbps fiber, so i'm content..

Also bought the same unit for Yes 5G flexi. Highest I got is about 700mbps download and 150mbps upload with 30ms ping in Penang. I am lucky enough to got a direct line of sight to a 5g tower around 350m away.
I am not sure if you need a fan below it. It actually have a fan internally, so you might actually disrupt its air flow...
You can hear the fan when you boot it up.

The lowest price I got is about RM965.53 after vouchers and stuff on Shopee from IBN.
*
I got mine from IBN also, deduct vouchers and coins got it for Rm960.62 from its normal price of RM1099 in shoppee. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Well it may not need the fan but after feeling the heat already gone from where i felt it before using the cooling fan gave me a lot more confidence in having it running 24/7 non stop. thumbsup.gif

Really? During my testing, cannot at all until I turned on VPN
Yes korek, maxshit one plan. That fucuker told me unlimited speed unlimited FUP for 5G plan.
*
Oh i see, i was using mekshit one plan b4 too for my personal usage at home bcoz i have maxis fiber on my name at my mum's place but the FUP was only 300gb and just to get 5G they told me i had to fork up another 30bucks++ to upgrade my plan to enable 5G both on my main line and supp line (router). That is without any bumping up of the FUP limitation, hence i jump to U Home 5G instead. sweat.gif sweat.gif

nice price…now we know the current low price is around rm589 after vouchers. u makes others can't swallow the tplink X50-5g price now…lol 😂

btw, for those who are not satisfy with the supplied power adapter, can buy from this seller. his 12V 5a power adapter (various brands) quite good quality.

search "12v 5a" from the shop:

I've heard a lot of recommendations that for a good 5G sim router, you need to get the one with the latest Qualcomm chip inside. Any particular modem router brand to go for for this? Planning on getting one since Umobile signal at my house area is quite strong (getting close to 800MBps-ish using my 5G phone).
*
Got the moolah, tplink deco x50 5G seems good bet, i am using the lower model Tplink NX510v. Works fine so far, no downtime yet even tho running 24/7.. hmm.gif hmm.gif

I see, considering this model too, since it's slightly cheaper than the ZTE modems that Umobile recommended. Btw, are u using it directly plug and play or do you lock the 5G bands?
*
I didn't lock the band, just let it on AUTO. So far haven't lost the 5G signal and downgraded to 4G yet even during rain.

Guys, sorry nub question eh, umobile using B28 or N28 for their 5G ya? When i try scanning 5G network at my place, my NX310v kept saying no 5G network detected, only LTE detected. Tho using LTE B28 i still get 5G. I am confused now coz i read somewhere people kept saying to lock the N28 band or something. sweat.gif

B28 and N78.

DNB currently uses 5G NSA (non-standalone) with LTE band 28 700MHz as control plane/anchor band. DNB also enables ENDC which means data is pulled from both LTE B28 and 5G n78.

Malaysia uses 5G NSA, still needs 4G network

5G NSA = 4G (B28) + 5G (N78)

Hey guys did they removed the 1tb capped which need to pay additional rm30 if reach that. Last time there was this limit and i change to YES wireless but now YES is really terrible at my place and I'd love to go back to UHome if they have removed the cap
*
Still there but still better than maxis 300gb tho.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

Now CelcomDigi also introduces a similar plan
https://www.lowyat.net/2023/309686/celcomdi...-contract-rm99/

But the price is quite higher than U Mobile or Yes
*
Unless ur place dai dai need to use digi for good coverage and speed, i don't really see why people would go for this. Rm70 for another 50GB data if ever we finished the 1000GB data is mind boggling too.. sweat.gif

Guys any recommendation on external SMA antenna to use with Tplink NX510v to maybe boost the 5G signal?
I won't say the signal nowadays is bad but i do notice the speed are kinda stuck at around 350mbps coming from around 600mbps when i 1st used it hmm.gif hmm.gif

Would anything like this helps? Or are these kind of antenna is just a waste of money?

What's your signal?

If you're getting similar signal quality as before and your speed dropped, it's probably due to the cell tower getting more congested

Stronger antenna won't give your higher priority though
*
Not sure if this is good enough or not, unsure should i focus on the 5G signal strength or the 4G hmm.gif hmm.gif

Is it a tplink thing then?

Same thing happens using tplink Aginet app on my Tplink NX510v, when select manual it doesn't show anything.. In the end i just left it at AUTO and forget it.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

QUOTE(westlife @ Nov 18 2023, 11:06 PM)
looking thru this thread.

i guess i will go for time fibre broadband (no contract) instead.

rm99 for 100Mbps plan (rm400 one-time charge) is still cheaper than going for 5G plan with better guaranteed of speed and user experience.

dun think i need to go for 300Mbps/500Mbps plan though.

at one time, i only have less than 5 connected devices that utilise more bandwidth only. total connected also about 10 to 12 maybe...

5G plans have all the disadvantages
1) uncertain speed (both download and upload)
2) uncertain coverage
3) FUP
4) expensive 5G wifi router/modem
*
Both sides got their pro and con's lah, go with whichever suits u. Tho not all people are in the same boat as u.

In my case i went with the U Home 5G due to:

1. I have 2 fiber plans already on my name, Maxis at my family business premise, unifi at my mum's place. Hell no am i gonna get tied down on another fiber contract again.
2. I may or may not move from my current living premise in the near future, so the easiness of just packing up and go would be a boon.

Regarding ur point on these:
1) uncertain speed (both download and upload) - inconsistent speed upload/dload i think even fiber do have those problems too from what i experience with unifi/maxis
2) uncertain coverage - this u have to do ur homework 1st, like before going for U home 5G i tested their line at my area 1st before committing, fiber also u need to be sure there is port for u to subscribe too
3) FUP - From my 5-6 years experience of using 4G digi/maxis as my main internet connection at my living premises, the FUP of 1TB is more than enough, my usage doesn't reach even half of that monthly
4) expensive 5G wifi router/modem - this part i kinda agree with you, but i could say it's the same as when 4G modems first released too, they start expensive but as time goes by they drop in price, but still for around RM500 u can get a 5G modem with wifi6 AX3000 i don't really say its that much expensive when a non 5G modem AX3000 router is selling for rm350 in the market. hmm.gif hmm.gif
