Want to ask, if I get the Umobile 5g broadband sim (68/-) , can I put it in my Unifi Air 4g router for time being before deciding what 5g router to get. Will it work ?
If can, will I be able to get full 4g uncapped speed ?

QUOTE(svchia78 @ Feb 9 2024, 09:12 AM) If your Unifi Air 4g router is sim-locked, then will not work. Otherwise, will work and connected to 4G only. Thanks for replying. I am using my own Huawei router (not from Unifi) . It only support Unifi Band 38, so always only connect at 38. I used to be able to go full speed (uncapped) around 30-50 mbps, but recently they became aware and capped my speed to 20mbps max ( the specified speed for my package). What model is your Unifi Air modem? I too used Huawei B618 (factory-unlocked) with umobile home 5G sim prior to getting 5G router modem. Speed was good above 100Mbps. Now it's time to ditch Unifi Air. |

Looks like can't ditch Unifi Air 4G yet.
Bought the Umobile 5G Home broadband (rm68/-) today, put it in my Huawei 4G router, and what I got made me nearly fell off my chair, not because it was good, but it totally SUCKED. I could only get DL 3 mbps, Going to cancel as soon as I can. In the meantime going to put back my unifi sim (79/-) in the Huawei Router. At least Unifi capped speed st 20mbps looks like heaven now compared to umobile no cap. This post has been edited by Ngto: Feb 9 2024, 11:07 PM |

QUOTE(FusionXY @ Mar 15 2024, 06:03 PM) Should I get U Mobile with Router Plan? These 5G routers can be very directional . I stay at the 6 floor of my apartment in KV. I can get full signal, (probably some towers nearby), but my speed fluctuating throughout the day. Sometimes 300+Mbps one moment , then 30-50mbps the next. Tried out some old 4g antenna from my old modem router didn't do anything .Currently using U Mobile U38 Plan. So far everywhere good with 5G in Penang. Does living high floor will have better speeds? Since my sister's house at higher floor. Finally I installed the Open signal app on my phone and followed the signal direction of my modem connection. I turned the modem back side (where the empty antenna ports are located) towards the tower direction, now can constantly get stable signal 300-400 Mbps. Every once in a while early in the morning can get 500mbps. This post has been edited by Ngto: Mar 16 2024, 06:34 AM 4WD_er liked this post

QUOTE(nikitaaa @ Mar 16 2024, 11:36 AM) But to the point it's totally unusable for torrent? From personal experience only. If I use YES in router, test with uTorrent in Android 7 Media player without VPN, healthy download, only around 20mbps . If use VPN , also about the same speed If that's the case, its bad. Sigh.. thanks anyway !! But for practical purposes without VPN, I using different way of Torrenting YES.on the same Android Media player. Don't want to mention here. This method for the same torrent, I can get close to 100 mbps at it's peak. But fluctuate up and down, average out at 50-70 mbps. This post has been edited by Ngto: Mar 17 2024, 01:53 PM |

Earlier you mentioned you wanted to buy uhome plan. I replied based on that assumption.
AW1000 already can bypass hotspot FT5G prepaid sim. Can torrent also. But from experience, after a while they cap your speed if they detect you are using too much data for a mobile plan.. This post has been edited by Ngto: Apr 16 2024, 10:37 AM |

QUOTE(xswatch @ Apr 16 2024, 12:09 PM) I see. thanks man. didn't know aw1000 can bypass hotspot already. coz the ads in most shopee seller didn't mention it. From the beginning already can bypass YES. But things are very volatile. YES could be just keeping eyes closed for now .Waiting to get a sizeable market share before enforcing stricter controls. From experience, the speed will suddenly fluctuate from Max speed to below 50mbps, especially after doing a few speed tests from various devices or after downloading a file via torrenting . When the speed comes back to normal ? , anybody's guess -------------------------------------------- Update I discovered the speed drop wasn't due to the reasons I stated above. It was due to the USB fan I bought from Shopee last month which I placed under the router. This elevated the height of the router by 2" and somewhat caused stability issues in the signal although the signal strength showed 100%. This post has been edited by Ngto: Apr 18 2024, 06:07 AM |

Placement of modem and direction of internal antenna to tower can make a big difference.

QUOTE(Jason @ Sep 30 2024, 03:11 PM) How’s your AW1000 so far? Only yesterday my YES prepaid sim stopped working with this router. May they ban or something. Maybe have to switch to Uhome..My X50-5G also have overheating issues every 3 or 4 days. so I bought an external fan and put on top, no more problems. |

QUOTE(xswatch @ Oct 7 2024, 02:38 PM) try to put ur yes sim inside phone, if still usable, u can change ur aw1000 imei again & try again. sometimes mobile operator block the imei, not the sim. worth a try. Done all that even before you suggested. Can work in phone.. They probably detected this is hotspot modded modem or something.Or they follow Umobile, when put prepaid sim in modem immediately disable from working. But I don't think that's the case. because when I put it in my old non-modded 4G modem , it can use the 4G data with hotspot running of course. This Yes only give 12gb hotspot, so this is just a temp solution until I figure out what is happening . This post has been edited by Ngto: Oct 7 2024, 08:22 PM |

QUOTE(xswatch @ Oct 9 2024, 12:56 PM) anyway, u got try to change imei? try to change to iPhone imei or Samsung phone. in case of umobile (non broadband sim), they blocked the router imei only. so if u change to mobile phone imei it can still working. I already tried 4 different 5G phone IME before. No go.As for Umobile, last time tried their prepaid, even use phone IMEI in the Router, no signal. |
