I just subscribed to uhome 5g 24months contract. The modem pull signal very weak. Only half of full bar. But when i try and error put the modem here and there i manage to get max 400mbps but when congested can get 100+mbps.

My question is, when the speed goes 100+mbps, is that 4g or 5g? It shows 5g in the device settings but when the modem put elsewhere it still showing 5g but drops to 20mbps+-

Btw the placing of my modem to get the fast speed is so inconvenient i have to put on top of my printer. Looks ugly as hell

You just have to avoid putting it next to a wall since 5g signal has poor wall penetration. Put it next to a window.
*
Wow actually that makes sense. When I said i put on my printer, that position is next to my window. That's why can pull signal better. Thanks! Now i need to find a tall table or wall rack to put my modem.

Btw im using zte mc888s latest firmware update so far no issues got a bit heat coming out but doesn't get disconnected suddenly. But i want to try connect with other wifi router. I have digi zyxel router from previous digi fibre but cannot use when connect via WAN cable. How to enable it? Can someone help

You need to turn the 2nd router into AP mode if you want to use the wifi function.
*
Thanks for the tip. I have access to internet using my old digi router already. But it's not as stable as using umobile modem's wifi. I guess i just use the modem and sell the router. Plus i can just use 1 plug only.

So far good la the modem + uhome 5g package. Minimum / slowest 100mbps+ when congested ok la for my entire house. I can recommend. Ping always below 30ms.

One thing i noticed, even if the modem's position is the same, the way that the modem is facing towards can also affect the speed. I put it facing towards the window can have significantly faster speed when compared to when not facing the window.

I think is not necessary, I had test run before signed bundle modem at my phone and B618 and result is acceptable. The key is the bundle modem is.... not so....well.

After sign up with bundle modem. Each time I had captured bundle modem, phone and B618 speedtest results to UM customer service and they will said no problem on tower/my area. Then UM CS will dispatch new router to me. (Of cause MUST logged with MCMC).

The strong point is my entry level 5G phone able get average 200mbps all time at most of spot of my home. For the bundle modem I did used 10feet ladder trying every indoor location, moving modem inch to inch, step by step, up and down and turn a round to get best B28 and N78 signal strength and SINR. Once moment it able get >100mbps, next moment the signal strength unchanged but performance will drop below 10mbps.
Even at B618 locked B28 only the performance better than UM's modem.

Meantime, I also tested 5G WIFI only and linked external WIFI AP 5G only(Include different LAN cable). The result remain same.

Sometime I always question "mana wire pasang salah". Exchange the upload speed with download speed, at least I can run some thing.

I have similar issue like this. Once I get a good speed, not changing the modem's location, but suddenly speed drop. When use phone the speed is really fast. I think because of the cheap modem provided by UM. Guess i will buy a new modem that can pull signal better.

I think if I'm not mistaken digital nasional berhad (DNB) said that they guaranteed at least 100mbps for 5g speed.

So if congested, more than 100mbps is good enough, right? We cannot expect 300-500mbps for 24/7.

BUT! If drop below 100mbps even with strong 5g signal then something is wrong somewhere. Either modem, telco provider, or DNB.

Because mine drops to 100mbps when congested but I'm still happy for it. It's an okay/acceptable speed for me for RM68 uhome

That is true:
The MCMC is also setting a minimum standard for 5G, requiring each carrier to have a download throughput that averages at least 100Mbps. On the minimum upload speed, the MSQoS requires an average of 5Mbps for standalone 5G and 3Mbps for non-standalone 5G.

Full article here:
https://www.lowyat.net/2024/319681/mcmc-mob...affected-msqos/

But when it drops below 100, can we then complain? tongue.gif

Sadly, though, there's also nothing about DC's?
*
I think we can complaint if we are sure that the 5g signal is full, or when the speed is (kind of) consistent previously, but suddenly dropped.

But then again i guess if sikit2 or sometimes drop still ok la. If always drop then can complain la.

Because mine once dropped to below 30mbps. Then few minutes later i tried got back to 100mbps+ or even 300mbps+. So i can still bear with that.

Consistent speed is not the issue. I am fully aware of the pros and cons of a wireless broadband connection comparedto fibre broadband. What concern me was the sudden apparent drop of speed connection which is now "consistently" at the speed well below the norm and it is just not UM only, it involves other telcos too both home wireless broadband and mobile 5G

Yes! This! I mean come on, they make a lot of money. Why can't provide quality service?

Is uhome still a good subscribe?

Looking for router because read the provided router so many heat issue and restart.

Also quiet pricey 5G router lol
*
I think for daily normal use it's good. Mine several devices 5-6 including 2 cctv, 3 phones, 1 smart tv, 1 laptop for working. all good so far, can even stream 4k videos in few devices. But if you are concerned about download speed or ping stability, better fibre.

And yes, avoid the UM router. Better buy a high end router

Im exactly in the same boat then. How much is your ping? Im gaming most days and thats the concern
*
When the 5g speed is good, my ping is always 20+. But when it's dropped (due to the cheap ZTE modem), the ping is 30+. Play ML no issue.

But I regret la i signed the contract, now cannot do anything. If i knew i just subscribe to Yes 58 because before that, i tested the speed between the 2 telcos at the same spot, got similar speed. Yes ping + 5-10ms, dl speed - 10-30Mbps compared to UM.

I tested the Yes speed using prepaid RM20 using my phone.

I just gotten my U Home 68 bundled with ZTE MC888S and I'm just terrified to be getting this speed, 5G with 2 bars only... Meanwhile on my phone I can get 60Mbps on 4G. Is this really a router issue?

Yep. The ZTE router pulls signal so weak due to the chipset. I have the same issue, I am now requesting to change to Kaon router. Hopefully UM approved my request.

I have tried both. Kaon is worse signal reception than ZTE. Kaon using mod firmware specifically for Umobile. Can't unlock at all.

ZTE can still be unlocked if you have the code.
*
Really? Kaon is worse than ZTE? How come? Because it's cheaper is it?

I gotta be honest. I just changed my ZTE modem to another place, then got stable 4G connection. At this point, I don't care about 5G anymore. Feels like this country sucks at managing 5G network..

I got DL speed of 50Mbps+- and ping 20ms+-. No sudden restart, stable 24hrs.

Until i got extra money to buy other 3rd party modem, I'll keep it this way.

Stream 4k, playing games, cctv etc, no issue. I'm happy.

Just placed an order for TP link archer nx200. RM461 on tiktokshop 12.12 promo. Hopefully it's more stable than my free ZTE modem. But I'm afraid that the modem I just bought is not 'that' good. Because it is significantly cheaper than deco x50-5g.

But yeah, I'll post my simple review when I received the modem

don't look at the price, look at what chipset it's using is way more important
*
The thing about tp link modem models, it's very difficult to identify which chipset they are using. Even for the x50-5g model, if not mistaken there's no official statement from tp link which chipset they use. Same goes for archer nx200.

My area got 5g. My phone detect 5g and the speed is good. However when I'm using the free ZTE modem, it catches the 5g signal but very weak.

So hopefully the archer nx200 that i bought can catch the 5g signal better. My aim is at least 150mbps is ok already. Not hoping for more than 300mbps. Because my current ZTE modem speed is only less than 20mbps.

TP-Link Archer NX200 simple review.

1. Modem material and build is top quality and premium.

2. Speed is very good (non-peak i got 400+ Mbps, not even full bar of 5g).

3. Wifi signal is very strong. I still get less than 30ms ping even when im outside my house, outside the gate (terrace house). However, the dl speed is less, which is normal when the wifi is far.

4. Ping i always get less than 30ms. Sometimes less than 20ms.

5. Setup is very simple. Got app where you can tune some settings. The app is user friendly.

6. Got a built-in fan to regulate heat.

I am a happy user! Highly recommend this modem to others.

Brb gonna sell the free ZTE modem now.

Just curious, if NX200 is able to lock band?

I don't think so. In the settings, it shows that it is connected with a certain band. Mine currently is Band 28 5G.
