I think for daily normal use it's good. Mine several devices 5-6 including 2 cctv, 3 phones, 1 smart tv, 1 laptop for working. all good so far, can even stream 4k videos in few devices. But if you are concerned about download speed or ping stability, better fibre.

And yes, avoid the UM router. Better buy a high end router

When the 5g speed is good, my ping is always 20+. But when it's dropped (due to the cheap ZTE modem), the ping is 30+. Play ML no issue.

But I regret la i signed the contract, now cannot do anything. If i knew i just subscribe to Yes 58 because before that, i tested the speed between the 2 telcos at the same spot, got similar speed. Yes ping + 5-10ms, dl speed - 10-30Mbps compared to UM.

I tested the Yes speed using prepaid RM20 using my phone.

Still good lah so far, i been using it for a year now, when i started speed achievable is around 400-600mbps but nowadays since a lot of users using 5G speed dropped to around 200-300mbps..
Using Tplink NX510v router i have 2 cctv, 3 phones, 1 tablet, 1 tvbox and 1 PC connected to it everyday, no slowdown so far even when streaming 4K videos on few devices.
Playing games like Diablo 4 ping wise is ok, no lag so far.. hmm.gif

The router actually receives a few mixed feedback. If you check on carousell, I saw two person selling their units for cheap price.

Also, D-Link's portable 5G modem also receives negative feedback.

I mean, what do you expect from D-Link? Nothing-Links.

Those days they used to be average consumer product. Now become shitty brand already. I miss the good old unifi days where you get a customizable router from TM, precisely the famous DIR-615, where you can run ddwrt on it. Nowadays routers more into aesthetics than serving its actual purpose.

how bad are their portable 5G modem?

Are there any recommended alternatives for 5G mifi that is around 600-800 range?

Ya, regret buying their AC1300 range extender last time, bought it thinking just to extend current my mum house wifi range to cater for a single CCTV just slightly out of range.
But since setup and use, the bloody wifi from the extender kept going DC etc even when separated the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi.. In the end bought a Tplink AX1800 router for rm160 to replace the TM router and settled the wifi coverage already.
Wasted RM80 bucks for that extender. sweat.gif sweat.gif

From the beginning already can bypass YES. But things are very volatile. YES could be just keeping eyes closed for now .Waiting to get a sizeable market share before enforcing stricter controls.

From experience, the speed will suddenly fluctuate from Max speed to below 50mbps, especially after doing a few speed tests from various devices or after downloading a file via torrenting . When the speed comes back to normal ? , anybody's guess

--------------------------------------------
Update

I discovered the speed drop wasn't due to the reasons I stated above. It was due to the USB fan I bought from Shopee last month which I placed under the router. This elevated the height of the router by 2" and somewhat caused stability issues in the signal although the signal strength showed 100%.

How’s your AW1000 so far?

My X50-5G also have overheating issues every 3 or 4 days. so I bought an external fan and put on top, no more problems.

I cannot recommend any brands at the moment. Just look for those powered by Qualcomm chipset. Don't go for unisoc-based modem. Qualcomm is expensive, but worth it. Also, client device location or target plays crucial role from the telco tower.

I bought 2xFiberhome AX3000 wifi (new) for cheap and using it to extend wifi since I am doing business from home. Easy and jimat. I avoid D-Link. TP-Link kira okay lagi.

someone reveal dwr u2000 is not using Qualcomm chipset. I forgot where I read it before. so, performance is so-so only. if it were me, I'll choose GteniQ iQ03x55. using Qualcomm x55 chipset. about 600 for modified set, means unlocked to use any sim card & can change imei anytime. also the battery is removable, can plug to type-c 24-7 use as home router with the battery unplugged. since battery is removable, easier to change battery in the future.

Everyone here looking for affordable 5G modem can consider this item:

https://invl.io/cllpce5
(the link to said product)

Cost-effective 5G modem with good chipset. Plus compatible with ample band frequencies.
Some more with LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) if the network fall-back.

try to put ur yes sim inside phone, if still usable, u can change ur aw1000 imei again & try again. sometimes mobile operator block the imei, not the sim. worth a try.

Done all that even before you suggested. Can work in phone.. They probably detected this is hotspot modded modem or something.

Or they follow Umobile, when put prepaid sim in modem immediately disable from working. But I don't think that's the case. because when I put it in my old non-modded 4G modem , it can use the 4G data with hotspot running of course. This Yes only give 12gb hotspot, so this is just a temp solution until I figure out what is happening .
