Okay, new tered

No need to pin anything since cycling industry is fluid and constantly moving

Rim brakes are better confined to indoor trainers, disc brakes >>>>>

Tiers of group sets are usually differentiated by:

- Price(duh)
- Weight
- Materials used
- Technology

Even though the general perception is that technology eventually trickles down towards the bottom tiers, there are certain things that manufacturers refused to share with the lower priced components such as electronic shifting(it stops at Ultegra)

Tiers from top to bottom among the common manufacturers of road bike group sets

Shimano
Dura Ace
Ultegra
105
Tiagra
Sora

SRAM
Red
Force
Rival
Apex

Campagnolo
Super Record
Record
Chorus
Potenza

Road bike groupsets

So maybe just lube the chain when it gets try. Any maintenance-free lube to recommend? Think probably dry lube would be suitable in this case

If buy turbo trainer, is it necessary to buy special tayar for it? Some say, if use normal tayar, can melt the tayar coz no tahan heat. I sked its some kind of marketing boogeyman, so what u guys think? Based on your experience.

No issues using it, don't think it will melt but it will definitely prematurely wear out the tyre because of the different compound.

Trainer specific tyres aren't meant to be on the road due to this factor too and mounting tyres is a lot of hassle so it is best if you can either get an extra pair of wheels(or just the rear) or for that amount of extra cash, go for an entry level or a knockoff direct drive trainer such as the Gravat 2? IF you have not bought a trainer that is

prematurely wearing out tyre can perhaps set you back more monetarily to be perfectly honest

To most of us weekend warriors, with a mileage of 6,000-10,000km per year, 1.5(front once rear twice) sets of tyres is normal, you may have to change your rear tyres twice as often

also not sure how true is this but a friend of mine once complained that normal road tyres heat up quicker on magnetic trainers resulting in multiple tube replacements.

If fitted correctly, both mtb n rb should have same pedal to saddle distance

Do bike fitting! Not normal. Later your bebird can go numb, since need to bend down a bit when cycling. I tell u, the experience is very scary one!

seriously, i didnt do any fitting at all..I just test it...seems ok...I just buy it at local bike shop...cap ayam china brand...with the shifter at the frame there... smile.gif RM450 aje bos..

ingat buy for main-main ba...then who knows, bring home, damn hard to cycle wei... confused.gif confused.gif confused.gif

Hmmm...i better bring it to bike fit...hope it doesnt cost a lot... icon_question.gif

OR, alternatively, I'll just sell it off and stick back to MTB..then again, its one of my goals to test out the experience of riding roaddie...maybe will try my best to get used to it or to adjust it... confused.gif (in a bitter sweet experience with my first road bike.. tongue.gif )

You can just take part by joining the challenge on Strava. They log your distance there.
Don't need to have Rapha apparel.

This year I did the ride solo because of time. My riding times are not convenient for others to ride together sweat.gif

It really depends, cause of the irregular hours I ride.
Mostly Kajang, Semenyih, Broga, Mantin, Lekas.

Lekas is the easiest, cause you can calculate the set distance and it's straight.

Don't get Magene dual sensor if want to connect with Zwift. It would not detect, I tried already. Right now I'm eyeing for Bryton speed sensor since agak affordable + cincai requirements to play with Zwift.

Looks like I made a fucking big mistake.

My wheelset currently has creakingg spokes ( true many times just cannot solve the damn sound). If solve will come back after 3 or 4 ride

Front set carbon the tube housing already got few scarring....this now impacts tube replacement. I had a ride last weekend and replace the tube 2 times until I run out of tube during my ride...when I investigate...apparently the tubes were getting scared by the uneven surface of the rims as they go in

So I decided to buy new wheelset. Got myself new wheelset with depth of 55. Old wheelset was 40.

Thought how bad can the diff be. Now climbing is a little harder..always feel something dragging my bike. Flat and downhill is better. My Strava...not much difference during ride but average speed has increased by 2kmh

Oh well....no point crying over spilled milk. I guess now I have to loose my body weight to counter thjs

Sufferfest on the hills....sections slower by 30 percent but wattages are higher. In my head...already spend money on the wheels....push harder.

But downhill and flats....these wheels just wants to go go go!

Flat and downhill biggest difference..on the flat now I constantly see around 40 to 44kmh on my meter...usually 38 ish.
Downhill also I first time hit 60kmh on the gce downhill after Bukit jelutong climb...usually 54

But it could also be placebo that I know got new rims so more semangat.....will try tomorow and see if I still see the above

But general feeling...I'm less tired on the flat ....once get the tire rolling

Start acceleration take a bit of effort more ...and climbing also more spinning to be done so the wheels rotate

Also this wheelset is about 1.75kg ...my older rims around 1.4kg...both wheelset on ceramic bearings ....the new wheelset just did around 40km ride...hope to run more km so it breaks out n

Huh?
Hills are always a suffer fest, it's just whether you suffer more or less.

As Greg Lemond said, "It never gets easier, you just go faster."
Congrats on the new high profile wheels. Just a matter of getting used to riding up grades with them.
Unless I'm attempting the Cameron Loop again next year, my Swisside 625s are my wheelset for all parcours.

Extra suffer fest coz I feel something weighing me down....spin spin spin...macam Ada magnet holding can't break through.

Guess need to get my piston upgraded with more rides and less complain.

After a 100km or if the wheels looks a bit not straight bring them back to the shop for them to adjust the spoke tension.

Check your brake pad clearances.
Don't worry about the "magnets", as you get more rides in and shape up you'll feel the mags less.

Hey guys, super new to cycling. But thinking of taking it up for road cycling for distances of 30-80km+++ along scenic routes on the weekends (still researching where and distance is just a gauge for now).

Was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on what road bike I could invest in? Ideally an "Endurance bike", that doesn't have me leaning forward too much like a "pure race bike" as I understand.

Budget is about RM2.5-3.5k+/-.

Thanks guys and happy new year smile.gif

Hi guys,

Sensor on trainer better or separate sensor mounted on the bike better??

Say if one go with separate sensor, it may be use to connect with cycling computer as well right (broader usage)?

Went out on a 70k ride. Immediately saw my Strava..broke some records....but the strange thing...my average power from 160 watts ..today it was 224 watts average.

Double checked both meters ( I have my bryton and Garmin watch). Both showed similar results...plus minus a few km less due to when the GPS signal was lost

I am super impressed right now. Did not know wheelsets contribute to faster speed...but also higher wattage

I start at Billion Supermarket. Which is just before the Semenyih toll. Park the car there, them ride out.

joined a group ride. disclaimer; not my regular group.
the group was riding single file on a busy road. that road 100% kenot two-abreast wan..
out of nowhere this one dude sneaked up from the left of the train and came to my side.
there was no space between my front wheel and the fella in front of me. i didn't open a gap either.
so what? he expected me to get off the train and let him on instead?
i just held my line even when the group hugged the road edge, i followed suit.
the dude backed off

Magnetless means either wired or GPS (if referring to speed)? candence all wireless as im aware of, same with HRM and power meter....

Probably i havent been cycling so much thus not aware of the technologies around me but as im aware off for speed:
1) Magnet sensor which is attached to the rim (if your spokes is weird, then harder to attach, prone to loosing the magnet while cycling). You could detect speed and distance if you are cycling on a trainer unless you are using direct drive
2) GPS speed calculation from the head unit (will consume more battery but more accurate). Wont work with trainer

Ive been using GPS speed calculation from the head unit for few years already.

btw i tot gps calculated speed less accurate coz gps drift, elevation diff etc? cheapo units using magnets better accuracy as it shows the true speed based on wheel rotation.

Had a bryton 330 before. Yes software is bad. I tried to make workouts before, with the bryton you can't make it through pc and transfer them to the device, you have to make it on the device.

Changed to Garmin.

In the end, didn't even do workouts on the road, only on trainer so the workout function on the Garmin not used anyway. But still looking in workout history on the pc and phone much better than bryton.

If just using on the bike bryton works good

Hi guy,
Just get my Bianchi Via Nirone Allroad and would like to check on some issue regarding the front thru axle. As I’m tightening the axle it will hit the disk brake after only few turn before it tight. Question is should thru axle must be tight? Or should I loosen the caliper >> tightening the axle >> tight back the caliper??

Seem like the disk brake caliper location have abit if design issue (thru axle skewer will hit it when tightening) but I manage to do it with very slight push.

Have to assemble the bike myself, biggrin.gif I bought it through overseas online stores and not LBS. Will only bring it to local shop if have other major issue.

Yup.. even if cracked, the reliability after repaired is questionable already. Buat indoor je boleh la. Had a broken CF over last weekend, thrown it away after that.

ya the equivalent to that event but for cycling. The local bike shop event is just a gathering that they arrange themselves which i have no interest of joining bcs of safety reasons. I just want to take part in those big ones where they close off the road for the riders so can ride in peace.

You mean the lever itself is hitting the caliper?
If that's the case u should be able to adjust the angle of the lever so that it can close without hitting the caliper.

LBS event is a great exposure for anyone who wants to know how to ride in a group.
You learn a lot from there.
Going to an event without a knowing how to ride in a group will be a disadvantage.
most event organised dont closed road for you unless you are the 1st peloton.

I'd say start riding with your local community or LBS to learn some experience

buy anything rudimentary within your budget, if you like Trek and your budget's 3-4k, get the ALR

If you like Merida, 3-4k can get you something better on paper than Trek

If you think you are okay with Twitter, 3-4k can get you something better on paper than both Merida and Trek

If I tell you that Shimano 105, Sora, Claris or SRAM Rival is worth nothing right now you will never understand

If I tell you that Fizik saddles given by that price point is worth nothing right now you will never understand

If I tell you that bikes that come with a wheel set at that price point can't be sold for even 500 ringgit you will never understand

I dont really care about the resale value. But i am a bit worried when buying these not big names brand, worried mostly about the safety how durable are these bikes. Bcs i plan to be going up and down some really step hills, i hope i am not putting my live in danger with my low budget. sweat.gif

It's an entry level bike. it's new in the market. not much review as most components are from their own brand.

usually safety n durability not an issue. i've never heard anybody crashed due to bike failure.
what might be the problems are warranty issue, cheap parts which u might have difficulty in finding a replacement, machining/fabrication tolerance etc.
if those are not ur concern, then okay lah
im not saying geometric or twitter or alcott or whatever brands are inferior.

Both also are OK actually.
If I was buying either 1 of these 2 options, I would choose the Specialized because their dealer is close by my taman. nod.gif
So it's easy for me to get there. rclxm9.gif

But as jaykay4540 mentioned, both bike not aero bike.

BTW, why do you choose an aero bike? Not endurance? hmm.gif

Guys, seeking advice
currently I plan to buy cycling shoe -Shimano brand while comparing the price.
I notice that in Lazada the shoe from china is 50% cheaper than local dealer sell.
Anyone have experience buying cycling shoe from China
what is the quality different ?

You might want to try the shoe out first, don’t go with the brand, go with the fit, some shoes are too narrow and some are too wide, relative to our feet.

There are cost effective alternatives locally here too

yes but not as significant as most people would think, meaning it might reduce a little bit of wind resistance but not to the point of adding 2-3km/h to your average speed(in a perfect situation meaning in a vacuum) over the course of 20 minutes or even an hour.

yes but not as significant as most people would think, meaning it might reduce a little bit of wind resistance but not to the point of adding 2-3km/h to your average speed(in a perfect situation meaning in a vacuum) over the course of 20 minutes or even an hour.

Beg to differ. Changed rims to vision metron....my average Naik 3kmh. Usually average 25kmh at gce....on metron I average 28 to 29...on shittiest day dapat 26.x kmh which I struggle on my older rims.

Rode more than 10 times at gce and the findings I got is consistent so it has to be the change of rims

Actually....no use to debate. Wheelset is probably one of the biggest gains you can get. Either go for deeper section wheel for flats or lightweight thin profile for climbs. I went with 55 for both. Regret in the climb.....but in the flat..it's perfect

I think his legs got different sensors, climbing with 55mm also can know that he's suffering more

Hello riders,

I'm looking out to try out Roadie pedals, initially set eyes on Shimano SPD -SL system, but now also look at Look system due to very affordable Xpedo light weight pedals that uses Look cleats.

Any pros/cons of going either system?
Leaning towards Xpedo pedals/Look cleats as it much cheaper given the 230g++.

I have been using mtb cleat shoes on my roadie for sometime...Do i expect minor performance gain for switching to Roadie shoes due to better securement of the clips?

Need some guidance from pros/old timer here. Bought myself a decathlon road bike triban rc520. Decent hardware 105 groupset.

Has been clocking about 300 km so far at GCE. When climbing i see other riders can ride way faster and make me a little butthurt. But thinking maybe they have been riding longer than i am.

But when descending without pedaling they also go way faster. I had to pedal just to keep up. Is there something i miss?

Maybe Many variables... tyres, wheelsets, bike more aero, rider heavier, rider body more aero, higher wheel pressure...

Tyres is stock. I think 28mm. I weigh about 70kg.
I don’t know the pressure as i dont have pump with a gauge. So i pump based on feel only (pinching tyre by hand)

My bike saddle is about the same level as the handle. My friends bike bike geometry is the saddle is taller than handle. Does this play a role? Aero bike will take less effort to ride?

Why not, in cycling the biggest resistance is wind resistance. Newbies may not have the necessary core & back strength to ride low to be more aerodynamic. Seasoned riders can lock in an aggressive position for long periods on flat and on descends.

but dont go slamming your stem and handlebars. this is an endurance sport, getting comfortable for long hours is key. you need good core/back strength to ride a more aggressive position and its not for everyone

2nd biggest resistance is rolling resistance and this is your choice of tires and tire pressure. Get a proper floor pump with a pressure gauge. Not sure whats the recommended pressure for 28mm but i guess around 85psi should be sweet. for smoother roads you may go up to 90+ psi. Tire choice like continental gp 5000 are 1 of the good ones

Thanks all for the suggestion. I just get started and don’t want to spend a fortune on upgrades.
Will start with a good pump and good tires.

I got my floor pump from decathlon. Quite okay...get the metal body one.....can pump 120 psi no problem ( but I normally pump 100 psi)

The plastic body type can't take the pressure. For hand pump I use top peak....fit to side of my bottle cage. Very good assembly ...but as usual....u toceng for 10 to 15 mins baru puas

My bike saddle is about the same level as the handle. My friends bike bike geometry is the saddle is taller than handle. Does this play a role? Aero bike will take less effort to ride?

Take a book ( make sure it's a firm.book). Yank it between your legs and push as high into your balls possible. Make a mark at the wall where the top of the book

Take that mark ( which is your inseam height) and X 0.833

That is your saddle hight. Now measure the middle of your crank spindle to the top of your seat. That's how high your seat suppose to be

*
Look cleats imho don't last long. Average about 10 to 12 month( ride about 1k km a month)

Shimano cleats like bomb proof. Mine running for 1.5 year after change to Shimano SPD....sitll tahan. Done about 14k alrwady

Looking at the 105 gearing, yours is the 50/34T and 11/32T right?
And it's 11kg without rider.
So perhaps those other riders have better (lighter) bikes and have better leg strength than you at the moment.

For the pedaling hard while descending, did you change gears when you're coming downhill?

I tried this bike before from a friend who wanted to buy a bike to commute to work. Its a commuter and endurance bike rather than a race bike...which explained why the frame geometry geared towards comfort ride rather than aggressive riding; it have QR hub for disc rather than thru axle and have bunch of eyelets bracket for mounting cage, bags and fenders around the fork and rear triangle. Its very comfort to ride and ideal for long ride but when i try to sprint its a bit lower responsiveness both acceleration and handling...quite heavy too...hard to keep up with traffic. When hard cornering or stand up pedaling pushing the bike side to side the disc rotor have a bit rubbing causes much resistance which is why many true road disc brake have to use thru axle type hub to avoid flex.

Btw its a good bike for long distance ride and relaxing ride. But if you wanted to convert this bike into competitive racer and keep up with other rider you'll need to upgrade to lighter wheels and lower rolling resistance tires like Continental Grand Prix 5000 or Specialized Turbo Cotton which popular choice among local riders. You can find out details about rolling resistance here: https://www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/road-bike-reviews

And also check make sure you have ample leg room to flex around as you pedal which is why many rider have seat higher than their handlebars. Crank length count too...i have to order special crank from Taiwan and UK for 160mm to 155mm crank to match my cadence. More likely if the bike is for Malaysian market you likely to own between 170mm, 172mm or 175mm crank length which can be struggle to pedal on asian size height.

Btw found another review about the bike here: https://road.cc/content/review/252475-triba...-disc-road-bike

Hi all, I've been thinking of getting my feet wet in road cycling lately. Right now I'm just riding a cheap Tourney bike with slicks so literally anything would be a great upgrade from it.

My budget is around RM2000 but I wonder if it's worth it to spend beyond this for a beginner's road bike? I've searched some site for a bike of my sizing (~medium, 170cm height) and it seems that I should expect a bike around 9.5kg with Sora groupset at this pricepoint. However most forum I've seen recommend to go for 105 instead, is 105 really a huge improvement over the Sora and ideally what weight should I aim for? Also, should I try to get a 2nd hand bike or visit my LBS instead?

Lastly, any recommendation for places to find group ride? I'd love to try it out one day.

Thanks

think people still have that notion of Giant not on the Atas brand thus people willing to fork out more towards brand that u see everywhere people has got one

Giant is like Honda/Toyota

While you know Honda/Toyata is good and reliable, most of us still fancy of BMW/Merc due to the brand and western design.

Suggest TCR unless u going to ride a flat road most of the time...

i think it's overly simplified to say people's purchase decisions based on jap vs conti car analogy. there are many other factors i'm sure.
- shape/design
- colour/decal
- aftersale support
- proprietary parts
- local availability
- discounts
- etc

i thought aero seat post is more changgih?
also for round seatpost... need to be very careful to position it straight.

I see. In other words, I can get campy groupset with shimano cassette, and maintain current mavic wheelset which is shimano freehub. Will there be shifting issue?

Unless you're super sensitive towards shifting smoothness, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4172673

Come join with ur tourney bike and u'll see a variety of bikes then u can ask all the questions u want. And yes support your local LBS otherwise they'll b extinct. Cheers!

Thanks for your advice and invitation! I should head to my LBS after the MCO settles down and try out some of their offering (they do provide free test ride right?), hopefully the road bike experience it's as good as I imagine biggrin.gif Meanwhile I'll just ride the stationary bike at my home for these few weeks...

Some would allow test ride (I think most would), some would b reluctant - avoid LBS tat don't let u test ride.

If u are doing rides wit tourney bike then road biking is not all tat different since u are not starting fr zero. Good luck and hope to see u after MCO, pls join up smile.gif
