Got the new router, pretty quick delivery.

user posted image

Did a simple check of all the functions and luckily everything seems okay. Relatively recently made too, production year of 2025. Loaded with a old firmware though, dated from last Oct.

A quick test of the default wifi SSIDs it comes OOTB shows almost 10db diff of reception between my current router and this one using WifiMan app around the house, including the weaker areas, definitely might not even need the old one if it's this strong already.

Gonna use the long weekend to set up stuffs, still need to work from home this week.

Hi,

House type: 2 storey terrace
Size of house: About 1650 sqft
Features required: Stable connection
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 2 PCs and 2 laptop and 4 phones + 1 TV box
Internet Speed: 500mbps Unifi
Budget: Max RM300

Currently using Unifi's router DIR-X3000Z and it's on the ground floor beside my PC and i I have been using nearly 3 years on 24/7 non stop and recently, I am using WIFI for my tv box/Sooka TV stick and the switching channels and going into the channel is slow. But speed test shows the speed is good.
Even when i reboot the router the same problem persists.

My other problem is same with another forumer whereby if i reboot my router it takes a long time for it to be stable meaning it will be on for 20 seconds then off again the wifi/internet and keeps going on a loop until stable in 15 minutes to sometimes an hour.

Therefore, now I don't off my router anymore unless there is problem.

Any recommendations?

Would the Asus RT-AX53 router be good enough for family use (3-5 online devices) and online gaming without issues like high latency/bufferbloat?
Gaming on wired connection.

No and don't

Buy something higher end like the TUF-AX4200 if you want to deal with bufferbloat

You need AdaptiveQoS feature

After reading a few pages from this thread, it looks like the consensus is that the ASUS RT-AX86U Pro is a good router. And since my original Unifi TP Link AC1200 looks like it's dying soon (Frequently reboots itself, sudden speed drops), I placed an order for the ASUS.

I just hope that it solves my problems and hopefully this is a good enough deal. Please ignore the mousepad. Lol

I can confirm the AX86u pro is a good choice, I've been using one for more than 2 years. You can flash it with Merlin firmware, which adds several more features including add blocking for your local network.

Hi sifus,

House type: Condo
Size of house: About 1,000 sqft
Features required: Full 5Ghz coverage in the house
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 1 PC, 2 phones, 1 tablet, around 5 smart home equipment
Internet Speed: 600 Mbps TIME
Budget: Max RM500

Currently I use D-Link DIR-X3000Z on wired backhaul in bridge mode in my furthest bedroom and the stock Huawei ONT as the main router in my living room but for some reason the speed in my living room is really bad (less than 5 Mbps). Have checked the settings on both routers and all are supposed to be correct. Figured both routers do not perform well as I have 2 walls between my living room and furthest bedroom.

Currently looking at ASUS TUF-AX6000 as I found a good deal at Shopee around RM450 or I could drop down to RT-AX59U if TUF-AX6000 is overkill. Would either provide enough coverage and speed if I make it as the main router instead of the Huawei ONT?

Thank you.

Your issue is having 2 different routers not working together ended up fighting for precious airtime and causing more interference

Condo is alredy a challenging environment for WiFi due to high amount of interference from neighboring routers

Ideally you should change the Huawei ONT into bridge mode, buy your own router and configure that in PPPOE mode

Then 2 routers should be the same brand and mesh them together then they can coordinate roaming, signal and etc to reduce interference

Does DLink DIR X3000Z support wireless bridge mode? I want it to connect to my main/host TM Unifi router via wireless, then hookup my desktop to the Ethernet LAN port.

Hi,
wondering is anyone setup using AC + AP for home seamless roaming WiFi?
AC: Access Controller
AP: Access Point

Below are the example of picture and the setup.
AP have 2 type, ceiling type or 86 wall plug size.
user posted image

My questions:
1) Mostly this type AC+AP are China product, are those WiFi frequency/channel compatible with our laptop/phone/tablet devices?
2) Will the AP (ceiling type) WiFi signal stronger/wider than our high-performance router (example Asus router)?

For sure, ethernet cable need to be ready for each room or by selected point.
Any input and comment are welcome notworthy.gif

1. Can use.
2. But the transmit power is lower than Malaysia/US one if not mistaken. Hence lesser the coverage are.

(Correct me if I'm wrong)

If you're on a budget, Deco on LAN backhaul provide much better performance

Wall plate WiFi is actually really bad in terms of signal penetration

Well, I'm trying to compare the cost. Which model of Deco you refer to if WiFi-6? The wall plate WiFi bad signal should be make sense, how about the ceiling type AP? Majority big office/company will use AP ceiling type to cover every level and zone.

If you want to use ceiling AP, you should deploy 2-3 units per floor else it's better to just get a single high end router on each floor.

Most medium to high end consumer router transmit power is 998mW on 5GHz while indoor Ceiling AP is 400-500mW. All this info is publicly disclosed on FCC filing.

Commercial grade APs are designed for client density and overall sustained performance rather than single device peak performance. Lower TX power would reduce interference and perform better when implemented correctly.

But if budget limited and want to get the best bang for buck, consumer grade high end router / mesh is the best.

I think TP-Link discontinued most of the AX Deco, only left with X20 and X50 but they are kinda low end
