For credit card, the bank will pay off in one lump sum to the retail outlet for the item you bought, which will reflect on your total credit limit minus the amount you bought. If you don't have enough credit limit, the transaction won't go through. And then you pay back each month until it pays off what you owe.

For debit card, it will pay off in one lump sum for the item you bought, using your own money. So what's left for installments? Its your money that is used, not the bank.

If you have NO MONEY, don't buy. laugh.gif

Credit card spending means you're borrowing from the bank and paying back later.
The key word is "BORROW", and use this if and only if you can't save, and desperately need that CPU for its awesomeness.

Not sure about SCB but I didn't find SCB ATMs either around the major shopping complexes / BTS stations.
Missed this post earlier. Anyway. It is indeed quite big. In fact it is the largest foreign bank in Thailand in terms of branch and ATM. This is because they took over a Thai Chinese controlled bank in the 90s and that give them many branches across Thailand.

Dudes,

Just wondering, where do you normally use debit card? Other than hypermarkets? I'm still new to it. Petrol station?

Starbucks? MPH? Anywhere? I know online shopping is not possible. Since I'm using the $$ directly from my account, will they charge interest or not?

Online shopping IS POSSIBLE. Before i got my credit card, i relied heavily on my PBB VISA Electron and i had successfully buy things from Amazon.com, Genting online hotel booking facility and much more.

8% ? TELL THEM TO GO TO HELL ! The merchant fee is nowhere near as high. I believe the merchant fee for VISA/Mastercard is in the region of 1% - 3%.

Online purchase is possible, but your debit card must be a Visa/MasterCard and your bank must allow it to be used for online purchase. I used Debit card for purchasing Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia flight online, pay telekom bills through TM online, paypal, and more.

VISA Electron is accepted too. Have also used it to book my flight on Singapore Airlines via www.singaporeairlines.com. Basically PBB told me my VISA Electron will be accepted wherever the VISA sign is displayed but there had been a few times that my VISA Electron card was declined. That only happened during PC fair at those small computer shops though.

Guys, thanks for the inputs, learnt something from here.

Would like to know other than hypermarkets, where else can we use our debit card without 0% interest? Common ones like hypermarket.
