Nope none whatsoeever, when I say no overhead, i mean it, nothing. Come back and check your current account statements.
And the exchange rate is very good!

Ohh ... earlier when you said you withdrew from ATMs in US, I thought you were using non-Citibank ATMs as well. I do know that if you use Citibank ATMs then you will not be charged a single cent extra when you use it overseas. Only the forex exchange applies.

Well ... for some of us who travels to Asian countries, there are occasions where Citibank ATMs are not freely available. In that case, then better to consider using non-Citibank ATMs coz the effort to look for the ATM can be quite substancial. One example is Thailand, Bangkok - correct me if i'm wrong but Citibank ATMs are only available @ their bank only right ?

BTW ... Citibank Malaysia will eventually phase out their old ATM card with the Debit card version. Sorry if this is old news to some.

Of course if you use Cirrus, PLUS, VISA Interlink there will be charges of about RM10, but Citibank ATMs in US big cities are very easy to find,

True indeed. But kind of hard to locate them in the mid-west. Chase Bank is better but too bad Chase Bank is nothing like Citi or HSBC smile.gif

QUOTE(aeronic @ Apr 18 2009, 07:01 AM)
not like Citibank in Singapore find 50 other ATMs then only got one 1 Citibank ATM. And Malaysia even worst about below 10 centres.
Actually there are many Citibank ATM now in Singapore. There should be at least one ATM in every MRT station. And if you stay in Orchard Road it's even more convenient, there flagship branch is there smile.gif

Oh. I have always been under the impression that there is some sort of handling fee for regular Citibanking customers to withdraw money at overseas Citibank ATM. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yes. As far as i am concerned Citibank Thailand ATM is only available at their branch and if i'm not mistaken, there is only one Citibank branch in the whole Thailand right ? Same goes to HSBC. Both are extremely small in Thailand but a whole different case for Standard Chartered. Standard Chartered is quite big in Thailand.

Yup ... Bangkok's Citibank is nearby the trains but it is still quite a walk and given Bangkok's humid weather, I'd rather pay the RM12 admin fees. Exchange rates are good and way better than the money changer.

Not sure about SCB but I didn't find SCB ATMs either around the major shopping complexes / BTS stations. BTW anyone know whose rates are better when withdrawing funds using the ATM card - between HSBC, Citibank and SCB.

mine is a checking account. rhye? what is yours
we need to double check if it is the same for savings or not
not sure savings may be charged for overseas transactions
UPDATE: however i heard the exchange rate is not so competitive already
quite high similiar to VISA

------------------------------------------------------------------

you know i am very impressed with Citibank ATM machines, almost same software around the world.
the one of the few very ATM machines (if at all there are others) which actually talks to you in your local currency and foreign currency instead of just letting the system calculate in the background without you knowing the exchange rate.

Let's say you have a malaysian ATM card and you put it into a new york Citibank ATM.

You select Cash Withdrawal, USD $500.
The screen will confirm:
QUOTE
Your MYR XXX Checking Account Balance: RM 20,000 (yes it says RM)

You want to withdraw: USD $5,000
That equals to : (the money converted in RM using the exchange rate which is the actual ammount dedcuted from your account)

After you do this transaction your MYR XXX Checking Account Balance would be:
(blah blah blah in RM)

Shall I procced? Yes/No

one word, impressive!

I was using a checking account back then when I last used my Citibank ATM card overseas. I have converted it to a savings accout and I have yet to try what is the conversion looks like now. My recent trip I used my SCB ATM card and I saw the rates is close to the VISA rate. However it is still cheaper than changing at the local money changer but you don't benefit a lot.

That's why I wanted to exchange notes with those using other banks (or even Citibank) as my only reference now is SCB.

Yeah ... I was pretty amazed by Citibank's ATM efficiency. I know precisely how much are they going to deduct in RM at that point of time.

hye, wah you also used checking account, then we need confirmation from another forumer using savings account who has tried overseas. i guess of course the conversion would be the same but i wonder there would be any service charge imposed.

the malaysian website however says both savings and checking accounts can be withdrwan overseas, so doubt about whether it works or not, but just charges.

Mine's a savings account. I never withdraw any money at overseas Citibank using Citibank Malaysia issued ATM card. I had however, withdraw money using my HSBC Toprate Savings ATM card to withdraw money at HSBC Singapore last year.

Wow. Very impressive indeed. HSBC doesn't show this kind of information on its ATM.

Do you know what kind of savings or checking account at Standard Chartered that do not charge us a cent when we withdraw money via any of their overseas ATM using our Standard Chartered Malaysia issued ATM/debit card ?

I am currently using this E$AVER account. I have to pay RM8/pa for the ATM card and if i withdraw money overseas (be it an overseas Standard Chartered Bank ATM or other bank's ATM), i will be charged RM12 for every successful transaction made.

Thanks. I'm looking for this Standard Chartered savings account that do not charge us a cent when withdrawing money at their overseas branch. I suspect "Privilege Savings Account" could be it but there isn't many info on its website and as far as i'm concerned, we can't simply apply to open this account. I assume we have to be Standard Chartered Priority Banking customers in order to open this account eh ?

Yeah they do. You don't have to apply for it. Just open a savings or checking account with them and an annual fee free VISA debit card will be issued to you tongue.gif

Citibank VISA debit is ABSOLUTELY ANNUAL FEE FREE. While Public Bank VISA Electron and ING debit Mastercard is based on tiered card retail usage.

For credit card, the bank will pay off in one lump sum to the retail outlet for the item you bought, which will reflect on your total credit limit minus the amount you bought. If you don't have enough credit limit, the transaction won't go through. And then you pay back each month until it pays off what you owe.

For debit card, it will pay off in one lump sum for the item you bought, using your own money. So what's left for installments? Its your money that is used, not the bank.
