If budjet no issue, go with 2080.

But If I were you, I would be sufficient with 1080ti and use the extra money on other parts.

Nvidia actually doesn't gimp old cards anymore. I use my 980ti with latest driver and it still give the same performance. I even had an older driver backup just in case they really gimp. I never needed to use it lol. Tho I worry if they might gimp the 10 series in favor of 20 series this time lol tongue.gif

I'd go 1080ti, it's way way cheaper, it performs the same as a 2080. Despite 2080 having the RT tech and tensor cores, if raytracing game settings can only do 40fps for 1080p, what's the point of that 4k display lol. I don't see a need for RT yet. Maybe the next gen 30 series could handle RT better, but right now it's not good for those with higher than 1080p displays.

Plus if you buy a 20 series now, what games can you even play with raytracing feature? None atm. If you want 2080ti I'd say go for it since it does a lot better with 4k, but 2080 nah.. 1080ti will do, cheaper as well.

Real time ray tracing isn't Nvidia exclusive, it's just AMD didn't push the tech hard enough.

AMD GG already in pc gaming hardware , Navi is developed for consoles so there wont be any powerful gpus from AMD soon, they are more interested in console eco system.

Let just hope amd can gather enough resources to strike back with navi next year,
Else one will need to exchange a kidney just for 4k60fps ray tracing gaming with rtx 3080.

After reading review, RTX are quite impressive, on paper because those new features aren't available on games now.
Ray tracing too taxing, maybe another one or two generation see how.
I'm more interested over Tensor core, simply, AI. In theory it could boost AA performance a lot, double RT performance etc.

With just 40% increase over 1080ti performance, 2080 is no no for me, unless price dropped to same as 1080ti tongue.gif

Now wait 1080ti price drop, or grab 1080 cheap and upgrade next year biggrin.gif

Comparing with Titan XP (https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html), and assuming RTX2080 is 10% better and RTX2080Ti is 25% better (not really, depends on games and settings), and taking some local prices into consideration, looks like GTX1070Ti is in the sweet spot for value

I think this is Nvidia strategy to get the 1080ti stocks to deplete fast.

You're right, plus there's no competition can price whatever they like.

Not for me! I'm using G-Sync monitor and anything below 50fps will not be smooth... at least for me.

1080ti Rocks. biggrin.gif 30% per for almost 70% cost different = @@||.
but 2080Ti can do 200hz 1080p in competitive gaming with no sweat.

Will gaming performance drop when the tensor cores are being used for calculations? I haven't googled myself but I'm guessing there will be a performance impact. Time to buy that second 2080ti and make Nvidia happy biggrin.gif

Realistically I'd buy a used 1080ti and save even more than being an early adopter of the 2080, I don't plan to go 4k yet since I can't afford the monitor I want, 1440p for the time being. Wait 1 year when the 2090 and 2090ti are announced, then only upgrade.

I only briefly go through anandtech article, it should not, as it's dedicated physical core.
From my understanding on the article, with DLSS it'll boost performance by some margin. The theory are with DLSS, you wont need AA at all, and usually AA cut performance. DLSS allow you to regain that lost framerate, while at the same time give you high quality AA image quality.
One weakness/restriction thou, it'll require game developer and nVidia to 'train' that game in order to work with DLSS.

Just saw an article worthy of reading on DLSS at guru3d, later finish work chew through rclxms.gif
