maxis has never been able to match unifi in terms of both price and performance.

i get a call from them every year, an invitation to test their offer.

always end up their price offer is far inferior, no deal. biggrin.gif

price got matched la.. 119 for 10mb from maxis, both download and upload 10mb.
unipie only 129. just stability not that good.

I am always tempted to try out Maxis, but Unifi keeps slashing their pricing in the last 2 years, so stay with TM. Besides, I heard Maxis manages their traffic at certain hours.

But RM119 for 10mbps and unlimited calls to all fixed/mobile numbers is a good offer from Maxis. However, 10mbps is only sufficient for one person only for youtube/streaming netflix.. Need at least 10mbps per person. In family of 4, needs at least 50mbps.

going thru a wall (even 2 walls) is not as big a deal as some people say.
wide coverage is the tricky part.
may need a repeater/extender.
my fren using rtn14uhp + rtn12hp to cover his 3 storey bungalow, says ok.
i use rt ac1300 to cover a slightly smaller area, 2 walls max, good enough.
u can ask asusmy for suggestion:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2651405/+7720#top
for 30mbps, spending rm2xxx on this will be difficult to justify.
*
I'm aware of its cost. Maybe he can afford it but limited by infra like me to 30Mbps..or since it's landed, might want to upgrade to 100Mbps or higher speeds when TM intros it. Buy once, use for years and it's still capable.. Anyways, Fella did ask for the best and didn't provide a budget.. So.... biggrin.gif

QUOTE(silverwave @ Jan 11 2018, 10:17 AM)
I see, so it's not for all. I was also looking at Maxis since it's cheaper but some reviews said Maxis is worst than Unifi.
*
I've read similar.. Though if your household is made up of Maxis One subscribers and you want to consolidate it all.. Then Maxis plans in total will be cheaper.. Else, just stick with TM.

Is this speed realized when a PC is connected to the router via LAN?

bolded is the prime issue for me.

afaik, maxis contract has a "fair usage" policy - u get throttled if u download too much.

time, i read they reduce speed during certain hours of the day, not max all the time.

unifi has a policy of GB/TB limit but doe not practice it at all.

so, no brainer for me... i continue to do my TB's. tongue.gif

Most of the time, it's on user's side.

1. If you are on wired connection, make sure both the router and laptop/computer supports gigabyte. (1000mbps). My older laptop only support 100mbps, so it struggles to reach 100mbps, most hitting 90mbps only.

2. If you are on wireless, make sure you have
i) reasonable good router that support higher speed (wireless N or AC)
ii) wireless devices that support higher speed (wireless N or AC)

I am ok if they manage P2P traffic, but if they manages common internet traffic such as Youtube/ downloading updates from Windows, PS4, Applestore, GooglePlay updates , then it's as good as useless even if it's on 100mbps.

MACC arrests 11 suspects over theft of Telekom cables

PETALING JAYA: Anti-graft officers have detained 11 people over the theft of cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia.

Among the suspects detained were a serving technical officer and a former Telekom staff member.

Others rounded up during the operation around the Klang Valley between 2pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday (Jan 10) were three contractors, a sub-contractor and three lorry drivers.

Two others, a businessman and a company director, were detained in Seremban.

Nine suspects are believed involved in the issuance of maintenance orders and approval letters to remove cables from Telekom's stores.

The two suspects in Negri Sembilan are believed to have assisted in the sale of the stolen cables.

Sources said cables worth millions of ringgit were stolen over the past year.

Federal Territories MACC chief Datuk Han Chee Rull confirmed the sting operation.
All 11 suspects are expected to be remanded on Thursday (Jan 11).

The speed is guaranteed for local server only.
You never told us which speed testing server you use?

It is TM speed test or TIME speed test website?

What is the information listed at unifi.com.my? Does the site list 100Mbps for your unifi account?

Are you oh the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band? If you are on the 2.4GHz band and you live in a place where there are many other wireless devices, you can forget, about getting to full 100Mbps unless you utilize channel bonding and you have newer devices which can support the 100Mbps speed.

that is expected...

becos yr pc or other devices are not dual band.

only with dual band 5ghz can u get full over wifi... 103mbps, in fact.

most pc's are not on 5ghz, only 2.4. even new ones in the shop are mostly 2.4-3.5ghz.

solution for pc - use ethernet or get a dual band wifi adaptor.

here, usual result... 3 yr old pc with wifi adaptor, 50ft, 1 wall, 1 staircase:

Shouldn’t be dual band issue. More congestion and network interference on 2.4GHz. If he is living in a gated community where there are only a few houses around him, he can get the full 100Mbps with 40 or 80MHz channel bandwidth. If not, the only way is to go up to 5GHz, where are fewer devices there.

Connect 1 laptop to the router using an ethernet cable & run speedtest again

If the laptop cannot reach 100Mb/s while the laptop is connected to the router using cable - It's TM's fault and you need to give them a call
If the laptop can reach 100Mb/s while the laptop is connected to the router using cable - It's your fault, and TM is not responsible for this

How on earth do you get RM2K for RT-AC86U?

Yes, I have no problem getting 100/50Mbps with my PC on 2.4GHz WIFI N with channel bonding and a link speed of 300Mbps to the C1200.

to me, it is, done enough tests.

50mbps... easy, most can do, max out with 2.4ghz.

100mbps for me... need 5ghz; 2.4... max out 70-80.

i live in a place where my router can detect 5 neighbor users typically - front, back, sides.

can even get into them with their password!

but does not disrupt my wifi at all.

so, "interference" - walls or other users - is not a big problem, imo.
