Recommended Modem and Routers:

Getting a LTE-A carrier aggregation router is recommended. It is able to perform better by combining 2 cells (B3 and B7). You can reach speed up to 80Mbps if you are lucky. brows.gif

You can test with a LTE CA capable device such as Samsung S7, S8, iPhone 7 etc.

If there is no LTE CA at your location, a Cat 4 150Mbps modem is good enough if you do not care about future proof. tongue.gif

Carrier aggregation capable modem:
Huawei E5186 modem router ~RM600
• Able to support more users with better signal as it is a modem router.
• Avoid the s61a version over concern that it may not support carrier aggregation. Get the s22a version.Tools for Huawei E5186

Huawei E5787 mobile hotspot ~RM800

Other modems
Huawei E3276 USB modem 150Mbps ~RM250
Huawei E5776 mobile Hotspot 150Mbps ~RM300
Huawei B310 modem router 150Mbps ~RM350
TP-LINK MR6400 LTE modem router 150Mbps~RM400
TP-LINK MR200 LTE modem router 150Mbps~RM450

More on thread #2

Common Tips:
  • Torrent is limited to 64Kbps, get yourself a VPN or seedbox
  • Private IP is provided
  • Download the MyDigi app to file a complain.
  • Put your modem near your window for the best signal.

Factors that affect network performance:

1) Your device:
• Getting a new LTE modem especially a LTE CA capable one will have better performance.
• You might be having a faulty modem, try switching your SIM card with other modems.

2) Your signal coverage:
• If you are not within LTE-A coverage area or getting awful 1 bar signal, don't expect to have 20Mbps of speed.
• Consider placing your modem at a better spot.

3) Congested with other users:
• If you live in an area where there are a lot of Digi users, be prepared with network congestion.
• Even you have a 100Mbps modem, under serious congestion, you may not even get 5Mbps.

4) Timing:
• The network will be more congested at a certain time when there's a lot of users on the network. Bear with it, it is normally the fastest during midnight.

As a suggestion maybe users here can list out smartphones that are tested to be working with Digi's LTE-A.. This to ensure that future users or buyers will buy the correct phone.. Some of us just wanted to use it on their phone instead of modems or routers..

Bought the 88dbi fake antenna. No speed improvement, but signal stability improved a lot.
I was able to get stable 3 bars. Without the antenna, it was hovering around 2 bars, sometimes 3 bars
Not too shabby.

For the E5186 antenna, not worth if you have to buy it. If you get it free, then it is better than nothing

hmm.gif 88dbi? really? antenna nowadays really that powerful or complete bogus? hmm.gif

Currently I just use an old 18dbi meteorlink 3G antenna (the long exterior one with 18 "fins") on my LTE connection MF831 modem, probably not optimal location did get 10dbi-ish improvement.
With antenna 98dbi (not a good day right now, a bit rain), 22mb down 7.5mb up
Without antenna 109dbi, 13.2mb down 4.8mb up

Let say if I want to upgrade to the latest next-gen antenna, any suggestion? My antenna ports are 2 x TS9

anyone using yagi Antenna here?

My area has no LTE-A, but with 4g coverage, tested on my phone the speed is around 20mbps for download near window, in the room is ard 12mbps...

Should I get a LTE-A router es5186 or b310 since I have no LTE-A coverage?
Cuz I am thinking es5186 is future proof that later my area might have LTE-A coverage (just thinking)

I have another question is yagi antenna, how do u guys install it on the roof? The length of the cable will affect the speed am I right? How long is the optimum length? 5meter?

modem signal are greater than hp signal. buy LTE-A modem for future use if have budget.

yagi antenna out of stock. not sure when it will restock.

worth to try it with a 4G modem.

For me my area also is 4G only. i'm worst.. digi only2~3bar signal. 3G & 4G flipping..

test with ipad max speed i get with 4G only 16mbps cant see higher..

After get a modem. speed is good for me. above 20mbps. modem detect signal 4bar with stable 4G signal.

My suggestion is don't. YAGI is not actually designed to be used with LTE. You can but the gain is limited. Not to mention that it's hard to get it right. smile.gif

4G is 4th generation. LTE is one of the 4G. For mobile phone, it mean the same thing. Another 4G is wimax.

wah v2 ady... anyone asked Digi to freeze their infinite plan before?
my speed still CMI...called CS and was told they are upgrading tower on my area so speed affected..hopefully they are telling the truth..
Previously told me maintenance till 15th....now tell me upgrading work probably till 25th....after 25th if no improve in performance perhaps I want to consider freezing the plan temporary till the problem fixed.

got such thing freeze account ? They also told me issue will fix by end of june. Was thinking to terminate it if speed still slow like hell during peak hours (8pm+), wasting my $$$, still need to relying my 4mbps streamyx bangwall.gif

that test i post where i laying on my bed at room

did u report any slowdown in ur area to digi?

if not, digi is very good at upgrading unnecessary tower

while some other tower which very congested, they choose to ignore the report and bullshitting with maintainance answer

Depends on tower load. I get 3 bars with shitty speed sometimes.
For my case I am living at 19th floor, and 2 cell towers within range. If 1 tower congested, i move the equipment to near the front door, which is another tower and get good speed.

I also use the same model. More specifically E5172s-515 which only supports LTE band 2, 5 and 7. Maxis/Celcom/Digi have LTE on band 3 and 7 (correct me if I'm wrong). Webe uses band 5.

And yup digi on this router sucks. Maximum speed would be 3-4 mbps, but it's very unstable. Frequent disconnection. And usually at night, like less than 1mbps. It's not a problem with digi line as when I try putting the sim in my phone which supports both band 3 and 7, the speed is consistently between 10mbps to 20mbps, not the fastest but still pretty decent.

I guess in some areas, digi LTE using band 7 is quite bad. I can't wait for my E5176s-22a to arrive. The weird thing is celcom sim in my E5162 router is very fast. Like at least 15mbps.

My one is E5172s-22. From description can support band 1/3/7/8/20/38. Speed actually better then my phone, the only problem is sudden speed drop. But my phone also having a same problem here. So its not about my modem, more on signal i think.

Running this stats on my 19th floor Digi

RSRP -91
RSSI - 67
RSRQ -10
SINR 3

Getting about 10Mbps at night and 12-13Mbps in the morning.
Pings are about 30-40ms.

This is with the '88dbi' antenna. Without it, the speeds at night are shitty.

Not the best cell tower due to congestion, but the best streamyx I can get is 4Mbps. This is way better.

CA is not necessary speed will be double. Still base on base band cell density, busy load and so on.. sometimes single band alone is best speed handdown

Hi. Anyone using tplink mr200 for digi i150? Hows the performance? I dunno y but mine teruk gila. Not stable. Need advice!
*
Could be tower congestion, or just bad signal stats.
Try bring your router to another corner of your house and see

Gave another speedtest this morning on B3 Mode, got 20Mbps thumbsup.gif
While the yagi antenna for 2600MHz is sold out locally, or hard to find, 1800MHz Yagi are much easier to find at TB.
Perhaps I can get a 1800MHz yagi to max out my B3.

I am using MR200 with Digi i150.

Can get quite decent speed. Around 10-15Mbps.

But too many devices connected to the router can make the speed unstable.

So I use Wifi Extender to balance the load.

No configuration needed, just put in SIM card and that's all.
Of course you will need to go to Huawei configuration page to set password for your WiFi and whatnot.

get another prepaid sim to test the speed, get the cell tower ID that u are connected to,.. get these info from both infinite sim and prepaid sim,. call digi to lodge report, get a case number,.. and if digi didnt revert back to you in the time frame, forward your complain to mcmc/skmm

What is the real world top speed for Digi b3 on 10MHz. 75Mbps?

Taobao.
There is a mix of 900/1800 and 1800.
There are also cheap panel antennas with similar gains at simiar frequency range.

Go for 22a, more support carrier aggregation. ie B3 + B7, B3 + B3, B7 + B7. Can't remember the exact combinations. 61a has more limited carrier aggregation pairs.

Huawei E5186s-22a: Band 1/3/7/8/20/38
Huawei E5186s-61a: Band 3/7/28/40

Both support band 3 and 7 which are the LTE bands utilised by Maxis/Digi/Celcom/U Mobile. Yes 4G uses band 38 and 40, while Webe uses band 5, 38 and 40. So I guess, 22a is more future-proof that 61-a. Other than that, I don't think the two of them have much differences.

yup, i used to be using 4mb streamyx, price is almost the same as level below $150 / mth.
if you have good coverage, for digi i150, the big diff is the upload speed, which is 10-15x better than the 512kbps from streamyx...
uploading photos, video is so much faster at 10mbps... download also much faster but if you're just watching youtube or video streaming.... you won't notice that much diff, since 4mbps is already consider very good and stable for 1080p video....

yup, go change it if your coverage in area is good.... do a speedtest for digi... check it out yrself...

Tethering via phone to use heavy download is really not recommended. Fully charge 100% connect via USB to the PC and begin downloading, once finish around 20gb the battery depleted until 5% even the USB cable is connected. sad.gif

It enables a call to be made via the LTE connection. The connection will not drop to 3G and the quality is better with clearer audio.

Can you show some statistics from your router that CA (B3 + B7) is working and show good speed?
I am disputing with Andrew E Store that they claimed e5186s-61a is the same as e5186s-22a.
Thanks.

Put your SIM card into other LTE A capable devices and try again.

Android phones have a reliable way of detecting LTE A connection if you have one.

I believe even some s22a in the market have non working CA due to a firmware bug.

My area LTE-A is no good but it is working though, it is connected to LTE-A using E5186 toolbox. What's there to prove? Some areas LTE-A can get 80-100Mbps but not my area, I did get before using my previous phone.
Show him this spec list: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=Atta...post&id=8817580 (Page 9)

Ask him to show you 61a spec list as well. Supporting B3 and B7 doesn't mean it supports CA of B3+B7, it can work separately but not combined.

So yes, it is true that 61a doesn't support CA for Malaysia.

I'm sorry, I just noticed I attached the E5786 specs sheet. blush.gif
But yes, your attachment is correct. My apologies as I used to have both devices.

My DiGi infinite 150 plan just approved yesterday and I'm using Huawei E5172 Call + Internet.

But I'm not sure my device is support LTE-A or not.
Can anyone confirmed my stuff?

Can refer the specs here: http://www.store4g.com/huawei-e5172/
I don't think it is a LTE-A router.

to anyone still unsure about this plan, seriously, if u are facing internet quota/ call/ sms or even oversea roaming issue, thinking about need to top up or spend more or need to control internet usage, or looking for high speed internet, and 150 per month is ok for u, i dont think there is anything stop you to subscribe to i150.

seriously this is the first time in my life a telco indeed lemme worry nothing, and allow me to pay what i can afford.

Hi fruitie,

I want to buy Netgear Aircard AC810s with 3CA but according to you on AC790s, you said to be careful that it's just B3+B3 instead of B3+B7 CA. Should I proceed with Netgear or the one suggested by blacktubi and get Huawei E5787? Many thanks notworthy.gif

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 17 2017, 10:21 PM)
This was under my consideration too but again the band frequency thingy is the thing I hate the most.
Most of Sierra AC790s come from Australia and gotta be careful with just B3+B3 instead of B3+B7 CA.

I discarded the idea and bought E5186 and E5786 which I did research on the variants before purchasing.

Hi fruitie, thank you for the reply. I am afraid of buying the wrong modem and it will be a waste if the product is locked to same frequency CA (B3+B3 or B7+B7) only as mentioned by you about the AC790S. Thanks thumbup.gif

Thinking of going for the 5786 since i travel alot and using it for the main internet as well. Been using e589 as my main modem since 2013 and so far it stood the test of time with normal lte. Time for an upgrade to lte-a. biggrin.gif

Time for an upgrade to lte-a.  biggrin.gif

What if both modem get the same signal strength? Theoretically should get the same speeds?

5186 is larger and have space for cooling. Once 5786 is loaded and left in place with less airflow, it will slow down.

But it terms of signal recpetion, stock to stock, I do not see major difference at least for my usage while testing out the e5786. My place is a weak digi coverage area, phones get me 1-2mbps. For using 5786 or 5186 placed at the same location, i can get 8-9Mbps.

If you want to improve signal strength, there is a ts9 port and you can get those ts9-sma antennas to improve the signal temporarily.

I didn't because it's no good to try on it before giving to the buyer.
Based on E5776, it is about the same as my E5186 speed.

Yeah the heat definitely plays a part with speed.

Understandable as mifi is made for transportability and modem is for more power usage at home.

If i am using for home use mostly, i would get the 5186 as it's designed to be on 24/7. But in my case, i have to bring the internet with me home and to my office to share the internet with everyone. And i travel alot too. Not to mention that raya is coming up soon! Balik kampung and i can share the internet biggrin.gif

So far with the e589 i've been doing that for a few years now and no major issues. Only now the battery is kembang due to the heat. It's not removable but can go to shop and change the battery though for around rm100. Better for me to upgrade and buy a new lte-a mifi biggrin.gif

Ah so not fully utilizing the lte-a yet. I think my home in pj is just outside the lte-a area (based on indoor coverage on digi's site but outdoor have) so i probably won't be able to use lte-a at home yet as well. Faster digi expand their lte-a flex.gif

After setting up the new E5186s-22a, here is the result without setting CA.
With CA (B3 + B7) it goes up to 35mbps.

Just got my E5186s-22a from Taobao, I think LTE-A is overated. Carrier aggregation (Band 3 + Band 7) is slower than just band 3.

1. Band 3, Download: 32Mbps, Upload: 17Mbps, ping: 42ms
2. Band 7, Download: 2Mbps, Upload: 1Kbs, ping: 218ms
3. Band 3+7, Download: 3Mbps, Upload: 350Kbs, ping: 124ms

I honestly quite regret buying this modem. It cost RM550 at Taobao. I don't think we really need LTE CAT 6 router. LTE CAT 4 with ability to lock band 3 would be sufficient. And that too would be cheaper than CAT 6 router. Just my 2 cents. No need to buy E5186s-22a guys. It's future proof, but it would always be cheaper in the future, right?

It's just Digi in your area, actually mine too. smile.gif
For my Celcom, it is 20-30% significantly faster than usual LTE. I can get 70-80Mbps at my hometown with LTE but with LTE-A, I can get 100Mbps and above.

Worth for it. Even though now I'm using B3 for Digi. That little difference of money, it is a bit too small for me. tongue.gif laugh.gif

Just my opinion la.

totally agree,.. many Pro user here for sure,.. if u can tweak band config to test it out,. single band B3/B7 is totally enough even with cat3 LTE 100mbps device,.. nod.gif

my area band 3 =10~15mbps while band 7 = 30~40Mbps
if i use ca device, confirm will be lower speed than my band 7 for sure,. it will even balance out like load balancer

this is band 7

Seem like CA must work best with both b3 and b7. Either one is congested, it becomes worse speed. I think probably is digi load balance setting fail. But CA in my area is working. Single band for b3 or b7 is 20-50m, while b3+b7 are 60-80m.

Do you know that wireless broadband is very area, users density and towers dependant? He can get 170Mbps, doesn't mean you can.

Currently with 2 yagi pointing directly to tower. And i once got the ping of 18 but now no such song sing d, and i once got the upload of 30Mbps ++ but now always at 20... I know i know, there's room to improve still... So any sifu can guide me on those reading thing?

one more thing for E5186 specs, Lan is at 1Gbps speed and Wifi is at 1300Mbps for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. May i know 2.4Ghz is at what speed and 5Ghz is at what speed?
*
What is your speed without yagi?
For research purpose.

2.4g should be 400mbps
5ghz at 867mbps.

If a DiGi Prepaid Best 2016 sim card is upgraded to Infinite 150 and I asked for a 3-in-1 sim card to be delivered, will the existing sim card in my phone ceased to work or will it still work until the new one arrive?
*
yeap your existing sim still working & It's being activated with 150i plan. when u receive new sim, u have to call digi center and told them u received the new sim and ask them to activate it.

he tested it near digi hq. i believe he is network tester thats the speed too good..

u have got to be extremely lucky even to pass 100mbps with digi nowadays...their network is congested.

The phone full bar is quite subjective sometimes.

my experience. without antenna can get only 40-60mbps.. with antenna manage to get 70-90mbps. both get 5 bars. so in term of speed it will increase when using antenna. in term of signal same as without antenna i also get 5 bars.
im using omni directional mimo antenna. smile.gif

Isn't your home alarm direct connect to phone line?

Did you disconnected the phone line, then connect to B310?

Hey Guys

Planning to take the infinite 150 to replace my screamyx 1mb. Bought a prepaid to test the speed, my living room can get 4G (2-3 bar), other area is 3G+.

Speed on 4G is around 20-40+MB/ping below 30, 3G+ 2-8MB/ping below 50, tested via mobile phone. I stayed in Kampung area, can get 4G signal, but the tower is far way from my house, hence it shows 2-3 bar only.

Any suggestions on what item/brand to buy to replace the normal adsl modem router?

Anyone have tested the speed on PS4? Can get Nat type 2?

Thanks

I just used digi live chat, to claim back the charges before i got the sim card.
You know what i got from the answer. The TNC for infinite 150 is, will charge customer since the purchase, even the card may reach within 3-5 days.

And he even claim it won't reach more than 5 days. Anyone who get the card more than 5 days here, please file a report to SKMM and digi, because the staff ID 04689 will take responsibility for this claim.

I am going to file that now.

If u want item faster arrive and dont mind about price, search at lelong, lazada, lyn marketplace or from seller at fb group at your own risk.

Were you able to check your data roaming quota from MyDigi app? Mine didn't have and after activated today only appears.
I didn't call to activate international roaming because it's already activated based on my Settings. That probably explains why you didn't get charged, they did for you when you called in to activate international roaming. I didn't call in for anything.

The only way to do this for now is to tether your phone to the computer, then use IPv6 to access it.

All the LTE modem routers out there has atrocious IPV6 support, which is a shame because many telcos are IPv6-ready.

What about this setup?
Huawei b310 --> Huawei WS880

Can I setup ipv6 on ws880?
I already flashed custom firmware (asuswrt) on it and there's an ipv6 option but I'm not sure how to configure it.
Ipv6 noob btw, never setup before and intend to use it to access my ipcamera feeds at home

For dialing, you mean if I use 4g modem connected to ws880 and dial digi?

Melaka was affected too just now.
Speed was super slow then only I found out my signal was only 1 bar.
Restarted then got back to 4 bars, but speed no longer the same.
High ping and slow download & upload speed.
Want to check, could you guys tell me what do you use in the APN/profile: diginet or 3gdgnet?

Frankly speaking, no idea. Either find a dongle that can be turned to bridge mode (ha) or use something like SXT LTE.

On my smartphone, easily.

user posted image

Finding a dongle that allows me to do so, very hard. Preliminary research shows me that the closest thing to do this on a typical home LAN is to get E3372, reflash the firmware to NCM mode, then shove the dongle into an OpenWRT router. Then assuming that a /64 prefix can be pulled via DHCPv6, it should be pretty smooth sailing from then on.

Probably.

Bridge mode as in not NATed like one of those hilink modems?
The ones that need dialer software (non-hilink modem)

What is your setup for ipv6 with digi 4g?

I have the E3372 dongle that you mentioned (non hilink version)
So how should I proceed with it? My WS880 would automatically connect to digi once usb modem attached
Should I go with tunnelbroker? Tried creating one before (when B310 was connected to the WS880) and got error something about ip inaccessible

Since all my devices connected at home still using ipv4, how do I prepare for ipv6?
Especially for my network camera/raspberry pi with static ipv4 address, do I need to like setup static ipv6 address if there's such?

Nevermind about the huawei ws880 router (it's running asuswrt btw)

What about the basics of setting up ipv6 with existing devices already connected to router (with static ipv4 address)?
Coz i have zero clues how to properly set it up
Only tutorial I've seen is setup with 6to4/tunnelbroker

I mean you must've configured it using any custom router firmware like ddwrt/openwrt/asudwrt

There is this thing all the splitter biggrin.gif
Actually house got 3 telephone port... so just plug the B310 to any then everything link up.... the phone... the alarm...
Oh... but need to make sure that TM landline connection is cut on the outside

Another note is that to turn off voicemail.... so it can ring longer to activate phone remote access into alarm

For OpenWRT, everything is explained at https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/network6

The problem now lies on how to pull a prefix from DiGi for the router itself.

If I got ipv6 working on router
How exactly do i access ipcamera/other service remotely?

With ipv4, i would usually assign dns name & portforward to that device. So it goes like this

myipcamera.duckdns.org:8010

Could you give an example with ipv6? Since you don't need to portforward with ipv6

LTE is one type of 4G.
Wimax doesn't really fast in Malaysia, max like 20m only.

So each IPv6 address for each device is unique?
With ipv4, usually you'll just need to open port that is used by that device for example port 8050
Then use dns for that router and add port 8050 at the end

So it's different with ipv6 where you need to have specific dns for each ipv6 address?
Or just directly input the actual ipv6 address to remote access it (for example 2001:0db8:85xx:0000:0000:8a2e:03xx:7xx)?
No need to add port number etc

Assuming that you can update the AAAA record for DNS address with the correct IPv6 address, then the way you access your camera will still be the same, which is:-

CODE

http://your-secret-camera-address.com:8050

Ok, just add those port number at the end of the of the ipv6
With Ipv6, you can access it without portforwarding right?
Or need to add some extra firewall rule in the router to be able to remotely access them?

Can any device have both ipv4 and ipv6 assigned?

A device can has both assigned. You may or may not have to tweak the firewall, depending on existing setup.

I don't plan to maintain a list of smartphones as we need to try one by one to make sure its compatibility.

For example, the Redmi Note 3 have a broken LTE CA although it is supported on the spec sheet.

The line is terribly slow at the moment, 1mbps down, upload test failed.
Area Melaka.

Anyone else having this problem?

CS mentioned a maintenance is going on, target date 8 June to be completed.

Hi guys, my Huawei E5776s came in already, so far pretty nice, around 15-20Mbps Down and Up.

Should I do anything to its settings or is fine out of the box?

Maybe it is not 100% correct but it can be useful..

I always buy my stuff from Taobao China using app and face with no issue because my address is in China.

However, I tried selecting location as Malaysia in the app and I would have assumed those sellers appear in Malaysia location should be able to send to Malaysia. So far, they kept telling me they don't send goods to Malaysia.

I wonder how did you guys make your purchases in Taobao? Using desktop page and let it direct to Taobao World? Fill in Malaysia address and they will send to us? I don't want to trouble my China friends so much and I was thinking to buy my own stuff from China. Your guidance is much appreciated.

You must choose -22 version if you want call.
If not, voLTE not work and your 3G not working = no function.

I need something mobile to monitor my servers, i don't expect high usage on that one, maybe 10 - 50 GB monthly.
Prefer not to use tethering from iPhone because that might kill my batter fast.
