Yeah, that's my name. Still a newbie bodybuilder, so don't be too harsh on me.
Btw, my meals suck.... and i am aware of that rolleyes.gif

Fattest was when i was 96KG 40" waist.
I am still 96KG as of today, but my waist is 36" now.
I'm 180cm btw

Breakfast (8am - 10am)
a can of tuna rolleyes.gif
milo 'o' rolleyes.gif

Lunch (12pm - 1pm)
I always eat mixed rice for lunch.
Gives me a balanced diet, i rarely eat noodles, too much carbs & little protein.
But lunch is not really important, read on.

pre workout (6:30pm)
ayamas rice + 1pc fried chicken rclxm9.gif
cheapest pre workout meal, only RM3.30

Workout (8pm)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

post workout (10pm)

half bowl of rice, 2pc large chicken + some vege (home)

Breakfast (8am - 10am)
NIL muahahahahaha

Lunch (12pm - 1pm)
mixed rice

pre workout (6:30pm)
ayamas rice + 1pc fried chicken

Workout (8pm)
Squat
some bus3rd hogging the squat rack, so i had to resort to smiths
2x10 with 20kg (warmup set)
1x10 with 40kg
2x10 with 50kg- PR!

Pendlay rows
1x10 with 20kg + oly bar
1x10 with 30kg + oly bar

2nd attempt of the same weight above, i phailed, so i proceed to..
2x6 with 30kg + oly bar

Deadlift
1x10 20kg + Oly Bar (warmup set)
3x10 40kg + Oly bar

Wednesday is shoulders + leg day
Most of this exercises require machines with plates... i dunno how heavy they are, cos they are labeled 1 to 12 etc... PT also not sure but he said maybe 2.5kg each

Machine Shoulder (Military) Press (palms facing away from body)
1x10 (5 plates)
2x10 (6 plates)

Machine Shoulder (Military) Press (palms facing each other)
2x10 (6 plates)
1x10 (7 plates)

Standing Side Lateral Raise
3x10 on a pair of 8kg dumbbells

Upright Barbell Row
all this while i've been using 20kg weights + barbell.
Yesterday i upgraded to
3x10 10kg + oly bar -
PR??

that concludes shoulders... now for legs

45Degree Leg Press
Last week i did 3x10 100kg, this week...
1x10 100kg
3x10 120kg -
massive PR!!!

Leg Extensions
3x10 (6 plates)

Lying Leg Curls
1x10 (5 plates) (warmup)
2x10 (6 plates)

last set with above weight phailed again, so
1x6 (6 plates)

Lever Calf Raise
1x10 60kg (warmup set)
3x10 90kg -
PR!
post workout (10pm)
whey + water (before leaving gym)
small rice, 1pc fried chicken + 1 scoop of bean sprouts (murni)
*note to self*
DON"T SQUAT TOMORROW (friday) !!!

Wtf? Lol... ok, your real name is Greg, that's fine. I had a double take when i saw the journal title.

Anyway Greg, no breakfast on a training day, don't even bother lifting. I'm serious. Don't really have time to totally review your workout but you need to tweak your nutrition somewhat.

You need more than just ayamas rice and one piece of chicken. If you're planing to cut and try building muscle at the same time, OR trying to build as much mass as you can while keeping fat gains to a minimum, DO NOT BE STINGY ON PRE AND POSTWORKOUT meals.

Tweak this, your whey and water post workout, make it 2 scoops of whey, add in 2 tablespoons of glucolin (dextrose). Within 1-2 hours, have your post post workout meal.

ADD IT 400ML OF HL MILK AND A SCOOP OF WHEY before you sleep. You need some form of slow digesting protein to last you throughout the night, especially on workout day or you're gonna go so catabolic you'll feel like shit the next morning.

what do you mean post post workout? typo?
i think you're trying to say drink 2 scoops or whey + dextrose 1-2 hours after starting my workout? ok, got it.
*
.........

Exactly what i mean. Post workout is your protein shake immediately after your workout (the dextrose and whey shake) and post post workout is your solid well balanced meal which is within 1-2 hours after your post workout meal.
Dextrose (Glucolin) is a high GI carb like, which Eldan mentioned, is needed for an insulin spike post workout which is a precursor to GH synthesis = muscle =growth = good!

You don't take glucolin any other time. Just post workout.

Reduce the portion of your meals but eat more frequently to increase your metabolism
Eat more protein - eggs, milk, fish etc
Do more cardio in the morning or after your lifting
Increase the intensity of your workout - lift heavier and very short rest in between sets

u might wannarephrase how u say it.

If your bf is HIGHER than 25%, then cut

At first i looked at it, i asked myself "Does she mean, if my bf is 30% i can stil bulk?"

Sunday 25/03/07 - yesterday was feeling fat so i went on a gruelling 10km (or so) jog in my new neighbourhood (just shifted). Initially i tought it was nothing and that i could do 2 laps, but i was wrong. Took me 90 minutes to complete it (the whole time running)... man, i should do this every sunday. I lost 1.2 kg after the jog, but put the weights back on as soon as i rehidrate brows.gif rclxm9.gif

So don't expect me to eat a whole lot of carbs.

Breakfast (8am - 10am)

milo 'o'

Lunch (12pm - 1pm)
small rice + meat + vege

Tea-Break (5pm)
watermelon.. took this abit late, totally forgotten about it sweat.gif

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

post workout (10pm)

- Darklight79's secret cocktail (whey x2 + glucolin x2 + water)

My weights weren't on par as previously.... that's becos i was taking little to no rest. Very gruelling workout, every sets felt like a superset. Was too tired so i skipped 1 arm row and i did 2 sets of lat pulldowns instead of 3 sad.gif and can u believe it, i forgot the friggin deads doh.gif

This is interesting.
Do you do any running(cardio) before weight lifting?
I realise you didnt include any abs workout, why is that?

Anyway, push as hard as you can in the gym and don't give up!! flex.gif

i try but i just don't have enough time.
If you look at others, they do only compound + some isolations.
I'm doing both. I'm relying on building lotsa lotsa muscle to burn fat off my tummy.

but it's cutting month, so i jog on sundays (gym closed).
10km i think, 90 minutes.

p.s: it's not a good idea to do cardio and weights on the same session. It's counter productive.

wah, hebat cool2.gif darklight's quote

QUOTE
Make no mistake. The best weight training program will make you strong, but it won't make you big. Weight lifting does NOT make you big. It makes you strong. Eating properly is what makes you big. If you eat a ton of calories without the weights, you get fat. Eat a ton of calories WITH your weight/strength training, and you get big, strong muscles.

You don't run before any heavy weight training, period because all it does it sap away at your ATP. The theory of specificity applies here, if you're warming up for a particular exercise, do a warm up set for that exercise, eg. doing bench press, warm up with bench press, doing squats, warm up with squats, etc.

But it doesn't mean you have to masturbate one hour before weightlifting.

cutting... already low on energy, somemore still workout, my body is gonna rob me of my muscle... feed it fish oil so it uses that instead of protein, then only drink whey.

i think even darklight does that.

for immediate post workout? no. the function of glucolin is to spike your insulin level and shuttle teh goodness of whey ASAP. adding fat while your insulin level is high is a good way to get fat btw.

for post-post workout, yes. by all means.

Just weigh-in a bit after dinner...
was 94kg...

funny, i feel fat but i'm actually losing weight.... weird.
I don't think i have a lot more to lose. Maybe 10kg more
at most. Which is also roughly the weight i'm supposed to lose
after 3 months cutting.... and then i'll look the best in my entire life...
... for the first time brows.gif

93.6kg this morning...

i'll try to get it to below 93kg...
92.x and 96kg is pretty big difference...
so if i can get it to 92.x, it proves i am doing something right.
and i ain't losing water weight (hopefully not muscle weight either).

erm... if you really like fried chicken, then take off the skin and fat. As for milo, have it kosong.

and your breakfast seems so little. maybe u can consider adding eggs to your breakfast?

Man, u meaure ur weight everyday !! That will only demotivate u .....

He are nearly 100 kg, I really don't think 1-2 kg is any significant!!

I think at least 5 kg will only consider as a progress!! (or a drop in body fat %)

After my lunch, I was 63 kg. Before my dinner, I m 61.5 kg!! Oh, I lose 1.5 kg of weight instantly tongue.gif

i am not cheating...
i don't take carbs... so i can eat fried chicken for all i want.
just talked to syd, she told me something about smoked oil becomes transfat..
so i hafta watch out for that... and it's a good idea to remove skin.

i'm not taking carbs, i hafta up my protein & fat intake.
if you want me to eat steam chicken (just protein) without the fat, i'll lose muscle.
But i understand that's no excuse to eat fried chicken. I need to up my healthy fat intake.

btw, i dun find anything wrong weighing everyday.
it does not demotivate me... i am aware of my weight & the
way i look. I just wanna check if i'm doing things right...
If i weigh every 1 month, there goes 1 month's of time if i screw up somewhere.

Its like everyday reminding urself : "What the hell !! Does my work out go wrong ? Why my weight is still the same everyday ?"
Maybe this negative thinking won't happen to u lo blush.gif

U might see some newbie weight loss initially, but the process will slow down... ( u may lose 5 kg in 1st week, but after one month, the weight losing process will be slower & slower... why weight everyday to get dissapointed everytime)

i'm a little skepticle about 70kg DL.... but i'll try.
60kg shouldn't be a problem as i'm already doing 50kg 2x10

the only thing i'm worried about is my grip...
i dun got that strap thingy.... will be needing lotsa
mind concentration for a better grip.

be really careful about box squat, lower ur weight first and gradually increase. If you decend too fast and sit on the box with too much force you might injure ur spine.

I think you are doing way too much. You can drop the pec deck, pull over, one arm row and replace pulldowns with chin/pull ups. In fact you can drop all the rows and just maintain barbell/pendlay row and chin/pull ups.

hey y dont u put more weight on squat, give it a all go on squats, and use your remaining strength on leg press instead of saving energy for leg presses.

am already using all my strength.

i squat first before doing shoulder exercises.
That gives me time to rest for leg presses/leg exercises.

The scales are usually off wan la... and i think they PURPOSELY use that to inflate the fat% so ppl would be more inclined to join the gym.

Instead of having chicken all the time, why not have canned tuna in brine?
It has at least 20g of protein for every 100g of tuna you consume. It also have the quality fish oil in it.

As breakfast is your first meal of the day after several hours of not having anything, it would be better to have something that can be absorbed faster. Take milk before you sleep instead.

Been dieting down like a soldier.
Everytime i have cravings, i would msg syd.
and Syd can be pretty relentless. She NEVER lets me
indulge in ANY of my cravings. Not even 1 bite. But
gotta thank her.

Yesterday (sun, 22 April) went for another approx. 6km to 10km jog
in 70 minutes (90 minutes last week).

Here's this week's weight.
If i had to strip down to my boxers to get this reading,
so be it tongue.gif

Slowly build up to 90 mins. HIIT helps a lot too.

No carbs for pre IF you *ahem* carb-up every.. i dont know... 3-5 days? Which pratically beats the purpose of emptying the glycogen storage and switch to fat-burning mode since you're gonna refill it before you get to burn fat.

But then, you're having grapes and pears which technically aint allowed in a low-carb diet due to high fructose content (which again, refills your liver glycogen and signals teh body 'yup we hv enough carbs here, no need to switch to fat burning mode').

Carbs for pre & cycle every 10-14 days is fine as long as you're having clean, low fat carbs which I reaaaaaaally doubt you're doing anyway tongue.gif

i only take 4 biji grapes first thing in the morning to kickstart my metabolism.
5 minutes after that i'll be hungry like a dog.

I dont know about you guys but pre carbs make me sleepy. It made jones sleepy too so he yawns a lot when warming up @ teh power rack xD.

In the morning I'd rather drink milked coffee and eat some serious protein rather than fruits.

I'm not saying dont take fruits. I'm saying real low-carbers arent allowed to take fruits. It has fibre and vitamin and bla bla bla bla and that's why they have to take serious fibre supplements and multivitamin to supplement things they cant take. But if you realize, you'll eat more veges on a low carb diet. I say tonnes of veges + fibre supp + a good multivitamin beats little fruits + little veges anyday biggrin.gif

I have been very depressed lately. Taking a break from gym but am far from resting. Told ya April is a crazy month, right?

To tell you the truth, i was pretty horrified at your diet when i peeked in here. Ok, let's say forget about the issue of carbs preworkout (which i didn't say was not important since i don't know if you're going for Keto or TKD).

The rest of your diet. You have SERIOUS protein deficit. How the hell are you going to grow? A time release protein is so important especially on workout days. And you take just 2 fish oils prebedtime? You don't want catabolism setting in while recovery is of the utmost importance during that critical period. You grow when you sleep but what happens if you don't supply the body with proper fuel for growth? You shrink, period. Ok, later. I'm off to bed.

In his defense, coming from a previously-fat-but-now-not-so-fat-but-not-thin-either person, everytime we eat we're reminded of the horrible feelings we had when we were overweight. It's haunting I tell ya. I had steak and reminded myself, "Tis is good food, tis is good food, tis is good food" before digging in. We're afraid of food and yet need to eat at the same time. It's a vicious cycle.

Thursday, 26th April

yesterday i downed 6pcs of pizza without the outer crust (i ate the pizza base sad.gif) for lunch (boss made me do it sad.gif)

so i hit the gym after work.
Upon reaching gym at 8:40pm, the dude told me
i have 20 minutes to do my workout, cos they're closing at 9, it's a PH.

so what can i do in 20 minutes ??
- bench press
- squats (tried a mider stance, it was hard even at 60kg)
- deadlift (shin touch bar, deload, back straight)

then found out the boss extended the closing time to 930pm,
so i squeezed in another 3 sets of T Bar row.

and then it was back to basics.
- rod twisting
- leg raises

DUDE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR DIET?

your diet's all off. Completely.
Your lunch is RIDICULIOUS. Your pre workout is completely unacceptable.

Pre workouts, UNLESS you are on TKD,l i seriously seriously think you need much more carbs.

Now u see, your post workout food is excellent. Apply that way of eating to the rest of your day, and you'll be fine.

Added on April 27, 2007, 9:04 amanother thing u might wanna notice....kfc=breaded skin. and the pizza u took the other day, will already screw up your tkd.

you can't do tkd dude, you don't have the discipline. Go with a 40/40/20 diet please. GO to about 3000 cals a day, maintain that. Hit the cardio via HIIT on Saturday (Anytime) and Sunday MORNING. And get some solid rest.

cyclical and targeted. if you take carbs pre (tkd), you cycle every 2 weeks - 1 month depending on how heavy you eat for pre. if you dont take carbs pre, you cycle every 7-10 days.

Carb cycling?

E.g : CKD with 7 days cycle n 12 hours refeed window

Day 1 - 6 - Stricly no carbs (trace amount only 25g/day), must weight train 3 days/week.
Day 7 - Depletion workout (total body workout with high rep and low weight). Right after post workout, eat as much carbs as possible (carbup with ~ 400g carbs depending on your BMR) within 12 hours. After that goes back to keto.

Why? To support production of leptin. If there are no weight training, no carbup.

Hybrid TKD + CKD with 14 days cycle & 5 hours refeed window.

Day 1-13 - Carbs only for pre. And around 40g-70g only (1-2 small bowl of rice).
Day 14 - Depletion workout n eat as much carbs as possible within 5 hours .

TKDers lose fat slower than CKDers but it's mainly for strength athletes who works out very intensely or long distance runners. Carbs are centered around their workouts.

Real TKDers dont carbup at all. It's all depending on personal preference. I dont cycle if I dont workout (e.g this week).

Greg, i got your text message. Yeah, why not? Go for the 5 x 5. You seem to have a pretty solid strength foundation. What are your poundages currently in the bench, squat, deadlift and rows? Be honest here alright? Cos it's important. I'm lazy to check through your whole journal.

bench - 50kg (110lbs)
Deads - 110kg (220lbs)
Squats - 80kg (176lbs)
Rows - 50kg (110lbs)

all are inclusive of the bar.
I'm thinking of maxing with those weights today on the 5th set.
You think i should reduce?

The 5 x 5 is pretty simple but you gotta read everything. Starting out on that program means you have to reduce all your poundages by a certain amount and build up from there. They have an excel template to guide you through it. I suggest you read everything on the 5 x 5 properly because most people have the tendency to fuk it up due to improper reading and then start blowing it off as an ineffective program.

And i have to tell you that Keto/TKD doesn't work when you go on the 5 x 5.

i already took oats for bfast, that's not keto/TKD/CKD anymore

i read everything already, even printed in out in case i forget in the gym.
I'll have a look at the template, thanks.

I know it's gonna be difficult on the ego cause of the program requiring you to lower the poundages, etc. Believe me i know cos i didn't like it either but it was worth it. I improved in everything except the deadlift because i was already in the advanced stage of that particular exercise.

He has shoulder injuries from a very bad bike accident, and just because he because he doesn't bench more than me doesn't mean he can't and it doesn't mean he couldn't when at his peak. He just found out a way to maximize growth by focusing on the movement and going for maximum contraction.

Besides, i went pretty light on the bench press yesterday.
