Which area? 1k is too expensive.

Toa Payoh north. I also think is expensive, perhaps need to nego with landlord. I rent the small common room and share toilet with him already 750 bucks. I was looking for clean quiet and walking distance to MRT back then.

i used to rent at toa payoh north too. during 2014, the common room was $800, with aircond lah.

i tend to overpay tho. $1000 is too much but still a lot out there charging this price despite market down.

my current masteroom is $900 at taman jurong, yes overpriced but no owner live in together so i took it.

Ya. But he clean my room regularly like cleaning bedsheet and vacuum carpet. Also iron shirt weekly. So i still can accept the rate, consider reasonable, with private tv and air cond too.

Rentals also vary quite a bit between estate (close to town, far from town) and location within estate (next to MRT, 10bus stops away), no? Don't think it's possible to get a master room rental for $800 in tanjong pagar, tiong bahru etc.

Just some random musings on the 1:1 thing.

If you earn rm5k in MY, lots of ppl will say you should ask for sgd5k in SG to be fairly compensated.

But if you earn sgd5k in SG and wanna go back MY, lots of ppl will say must get at least rm10-15k to be fairly compensated.

So which ratio is the 'correct' one? smile.gif

No arguments there. Just amused that what is "fair compensation" varies wildly whether one is moving from KL to SG and vice versa.

Because theoretically if KL to SG, 1:1 is a "fair compensation" move, why wouldn't a 1:1 move in the opposite direction also be fair?

HAHAHAHAHAH i get what you mean.
but realistically do you think people will pay RM15k for a SGD5k job here? i seriously doubt so.
because SGD5k job here is usually a manager level. and the same rank in KL doesn't pay RM15k. right?

My peer group in KL now making abt rm12-14k as Finance Mgr in mnc... and im making less than half that for a similar role. A MNC manager here maybe 6k to 10k nia max, so the conversion ratio for my industry at that pay grade seems to be abot 1 : 1.5.

But im hoping to get a "promotion" on my way back la, so that can be a 1:2. Try to sell myself higher with sg experience and all that bullsh*t

Yes, it can be considered fair.
But it's entirely up to you to accept or to decline the fair compensation.

U don't move from your current position just to get a fair deal rite?

When a person jumps from Company A to Company B, lot of people will say you should ask for 10%-20% increment to be fairly compensated.

But when the person jumps back from Company B to Company A, a lot of people will say must get another 10%-20% increment to be fairly compensated.

So same ratio applied smile.gif

That expectation applies when one job hop within the same country

But cross country job hop, should be paid that country market rate
