All the maths are nice, great and well defined. However, when use it to predict the future, the history may not want to repeat itself.

Just like how students use past year papers to predict exam questions...

sometimes we have to be bit more positives in life than doubtful always

Yes, most likely your IRR formula is pointing to the wrong ranges. It's very easy to fix:

user posted image

For individual funds just make sure that
CODE
=XIRR(<investment amount record for that fund>, <dates of investments for that fund>)

Thank you.
My individual UTF code line is like this. Formula Example : =IFERROR(XIRR(K8:K15,D8:D15),0)
So far, I have figured out the problem. Apparently, I can't leave any rows without value in the transaction amount. After trimming rows, I got back my individual IRR. This wasn't the case previously

However, my portfolio overall IRR is still missing. Formula : =XIRR($K$2:K67,$D$2:D67)
It shows as "#NUM!"
How may I fix this?

sweat.gif

Edit : The error goes away if I do not include the inactive fund? Can I email my spreadsheet to you for checking? I am using Mac Excel.

A why not? Think about it for a moment...

Aren't we here a bunch of nobody's sharing our life experience on UTF investing? All of you here are investing your money, not mine. Why should you listen to another? If you think another person makes sense and follow his style of investing and make money, then go ahead and enjoy.

The giver of any advise here do not earn a single commission nor have any ulterior motive other than to share life experiences.

And why do you think it is your business that another must follow your dictation? Lighten up dude, it is just a f*cking forum. Why so serious?

Are you in business?

For example, if you are a sales person, surely you must have use some sort of forecasting tools to predict / forecast your sales budget to your bosses?

Be it linear regression, trend forecasting etc....

Are you gonna say the above to your boss face, that is, "Boss, f*ck sales budgeting, history may not want to repeat itself anyway, what is the use of forecasting my next year sales figure?"

Hahacat is still butthurt because I called him Mr One-Hit-Wonder....

And Mr One-Hit-Wonder, comes blazing in like Kid Dynamo and showing off his port when I have been sharing my port since 2013 till now 2017 (4 years) since version 4 of this thread. Now we are at version 18. Regulars would know. It is no big deal for me, I am upfront, I made some good calls and bad calls. And those regulars would know I have been straight - forward in my sharing.
