Since it's a university founded by MIC, i would say that it might be true. Probably cos of the pathetic number of indian students admitted for medicine in IPTA which is a result of the quota which tends to side the bumis. Kind of sad isn't it? Nyways it's setted up to support the non-bumis at first.
Not too sure about it tho cos it has just recently promoted to a IPTA-like uni but the management will still run on it's own. What i'm glad to hear is that at least this new medical uni has got it's recognition in M'sia, at last. After 3 batches have graduated.

It's surely a better move than to send students to country like Indonesia. Not only it will ensure that they come back to serve for the Government but also to meet the scarcity of doctors Malaysia are facing now. It's a win-win situation.

There should be fair competition for all. Anyway, AIMST is a good uni. 2 of your seniors are working in MGH. Btw, how long did you wait for the place in MBBS?

QUOTE(csrulez @ Aug 15 2008, 01:18 AM) AIMST is going to be a new medical university to receive JPA scholars too. We currently have a few in the latest foundation batch already. Besides that, i heard that AIMST is going to be one of the choices of uni for medicine in the upcoming IPTA application form for stpm and matriks leaver. Due to the lack of seats for med in IPTA. It seems that the PM is going to announce it soon on the upcoming official opening on this Sunday. Lol. We'll see. Anyhow, i was trying to say that 3rd world med schools aren't that bad at all. We still produce good doctors. But probably might lack in the consistency like what limeuu has said i guess. O.o yup...agree with that.. aimst is coming up!! btw, limeuu, are u still working/practising??

Okay..jap..jap.. wanna bring up a totally different topic here. Does anyone here think that its unfair that Medical students under JPA scholarships at IPTA are getting about the same amount of scholarship as other courses when we are on campus almost twice the time they are and we have to pay for practicals out side of campus(travelling expenses i.e fuel, tol, parking)? Cause I struggle sometimes padahal my parents give me money from time to time but what about ppl who depend entirely on the scholarship?
Another thing is, can anyone tell me how much the fees for medic per semester is in other IPTAs? In UIA its RM1500 per sem. Others?

It's a win-win situation. i don't think any student graduating in indonesia will stay back in that country......just as none will in india/russia/middle east.......so they are pretty safe places to send people to if one is afraid of brain drain........ human migration follows a pretty predictable and usually very logical trend.......and if you follow the flow, you just about rank the economic standing of the list.....

At least you should be glad that you got the scholarship which pays for your fees and some extra cash for living expenses. Does JPA give the same amount of 'pocket money' to those that go to different countries too?

Hey munsheng and hypermax. Seriously you guys have seen my seniors? We only had a chance to catch a glimpse of them graduating when we first entered, sadly. Haha. I was wondering how are AIMST housemens doing there at MGH? I was told that our students kind of lacked in clinical exposure such as clinical procedures. Is it true so? They are our pioneer batch who works really really hard to help us obtain the 3 years recognition by MMC. Thanks to them really.

Others? roughly only school fees = 1.5k ++ hostel etc etc = 900 total = +- 2.5k jpa? since last sem = 6.3k previously = around 3.5 pay school everything.. left less than a k to live for 6 months feel like taking the damn jpa for no reason..

Not sure about how good he is. If you want learn more about clinical skills, then better stay in the wards longer. My professor from UM told us that he used to stay in the ward till midnight. Yup, very true saying indeed. That was what i was told by the MMC guys during their accredition tour to our university. The problem is some hospitals such as the Alor Setar General Hospital's policy does not really allowed medical students to do their procedures compared to UM, UKM and USM who has their own hospitals. That professor jokingly asked us to suggest to our Uni to build our own hospitals as they have not been such application sent to MMC before. LOL. We have a dental hospital here though, not the medical hosp.
