This crude oil rebound send some relief to oil producing country.. well, i dunno wad will happen to the economy in the next 1 year, but as u know, i am a bear bear for now..

Gold is still maintaining its composure above 1200..

Since UOB still can offer 4.5%, it could mean something later on.. brows.gif who knows ? Soon most bank will revert back to 4.5 offer again..

Called BR. They currently have 2 promo. 12 mth 4.28% and 2 yrs 4.55%.

Asked for 12 mth 4.5%, getting HQ approval. Likely to get it based on what I was told.  biggrin.gif

As to the 4.55% promo with SMS for contest/lucky draw, if have 2 certs of 50k each, then allowed to have 2 entries. Meaning 2 SMS for the contest/lucky draw. This is to answer one question that was posed short while ago by one forummer.  biggrin.gif

12month rate 4.28% can nego till 4.5%?
what about the 24m 4.55% if can nego up 0.22%, wow wow..

Want to put for 1 year only. So did not want to nego for 2 years. BR at the beginning said no nego for promo rate. So they came out with 1 year 4.28%. But this time still nego based on that. But it is for large funds for the 4.5% rate. So still can nego for their promo rate. tongue.gif

UOB 12 m, do not pay monthly interest. That is BR's advantage. biggrin.gif

Nice nice. My next FD to mature end of March is in UOB!  ranting.gif Hope to see higher rates in other banks.

Guys, need to confirm one thing on FD vs home loan.

Short story, I have an ongoing full-flexi home loan with linked current account. If dump into the current account, the amount will offset the home loan interest. At the moment, my home loan interest is BLR - 2.45% = 4.15%.

So, I think I am not wrong to say that I should continue putting into FDs that have higher rates than 4.15% rather than dumping into the flexi-loan right? Settling the loan is not an issue as I can settle it anytime but rather need the liquidity for other purposes (the monthly fee of RM10 is also minimal and is not a big issue).
*
under what condition the monthly fee will be charged?

Well, I don't think other banks will follow suit with UOB. Note that UOB came out with this 4.5% only short while ago, until end of March. This was after ALL banks have ceased their 4.5% 1 year promo. So it could be UOB in need of funds ?

But the trend is not encouraging. BR is also ending their 2 years 4.55% by end of March. biggrin.gif

May be too many depositors move elsewhere for their matured FD from the bank, as the bank's rate was lower than others...
So need to put up higher rate to attract/retain depositors back.

Ya, could be that. I have withdrawn funds from UOB and moved elsewhere last few months as their rate was not competitive at that time. Just like BR, realizing their rate NG and came out with 2 years 4.55% promo. smile.gif BR complained to me that the Chinese are moving their funds out, few months ago. biggrin.gif

Most home loan current account charges rm10 every month. It is automatic.

there's a thing called PIDM to protect depositors but limited to RM250k per account, so if you have more than 250k, you can
if you want different mature dates, yes you can also
if not, it's just simply not convenience to have FD at multiple different banks

Did maybank ask for all kind of eform upon placement of GIA-i?
Btw, how to check the published 4% rate? There's no option showing 4%.

Thank you very much for the updated info. My FD matures tomorrow and the timing could not be better.
I might overlook this and end up going for much lower FD promo without your updated info
*
You are welcome.. smile.gif

I just placed this UOB FD yesterday, a tradition & simple FD, interest will pay upon maturity,
no need to open a saving account.

According to UOB, this promo has started since last Friday..
