Just came back from UOB Puchong. Placed 12 months @ 4.5%pa.

Then went to OCBC to withdraw a matured FD. Took 40 minutes just to conclude an FD withdrawal. I do not understand why I have to go through Personal Banking counters, before proceeding to the normal transaction counter to collect. I blew my top when after waiting for close to half hour, someone who just came in, took a number and immediately his number was called. I went to the girl who was issuing number and asked "Why I do have to wait for a personal banker just to conduct an FD withdrawal?". Straight away she went to a guy colleague who then went to a counter to call my number. WTF service is this. I can't wait to have all my FDs matured in OCBC before withdrawing.  mad.gif

I think they are trying to convert you to premier banking or trying to sell you something. Must be a big sum you were withdrawing?

You are welcome..  smile.gif

I just placed this UOB FD yesterday, a tradition & simple FD, interest will pay upon maturity,
no need to open a saving account.

According to UOB, this promo has started since last Friday..

*
No need open savings account so you just deposit and get the cert? That day the girl kept insisting that I must open a savings account and they must issue an ATM card and online pin to me. I keep asking the reasons and they said now is the standard practice. I told them not all banks required and she insist. So I have no choice but just to open. Opening account took me 45 min but then processing FD at counter only like 5 min. If opening account not necessary then I'm going to write in to them asking why the inconsistency.

Kena con. Luckily she didn't lie and insist you to deposit 1500 like Standard Chartered bank. Always refer to the T&C to see whether need CASA or not.

Actually it's the counter staff who said cannot and I need to open savings. So I went to PB. The PB said must and also must get ATM card. It's the hassle of going through all this and wasted 45 min, of course also paying the ATM card charges though it's minimal.

Exactly same here. Went OCBC Puchong branch and made to do the same. Waited like about half an hour.

All banks have a target so of course they "force" you to open a SA. Some FD promo SA are optional. Some are not.

Because they can make money from the ATM card, like HLB are "giving" you debit card and in order to avoid paying fees, you need to keep rm200 minimum every month(or technically the balance needs to have rm200 before crossing last day of the month) doh.gif

Public bank fd promo? Those are rollovers. I notic pb likes rollovers, then interest paid in between. Hence they need the savinfs acct for interest crediting purposes. Uob fd promo is just straight fd usually.

The two that I placed recently requires casa for interest crediting purposes. At rhb. Seriously depends on the bank and promo...

Not enough for PB .. biggrin.gif

UOB only took me 3 mins from the point of me entering the bank till I walked out. Impressed it took that fast or unimpressed that they have so little customer. Depends on which side of the coin some like to look at.

Why you want a crowded bank?

Efficient - customer get their business done quickly, all already left, hence you see little people in the bank.
Isn't a good thing?

or
you want a crowded bank, that need to spend 30 min to 1 hour just to make a FD placement?

It is a good thing. Just pointing out some people may look at it the other way. If I was uncertain of the bank, I wouldn't have placed an FD there.

This brings me a point where I don't understand why banks are still insisting on counter fd while the technology is there for efd? This counter ransactions overhead is probably lose-lose for both parties.

Simple. If all use efd, they cannot promote their products. Neither can they encourage people to sign up for PB. Remember banks are all able meeting target. Imagine how much commission they will lose if no one want to sign up for their products.

Same here. I think they just want to see you in the branch and promote your CC, insurance, investment products.

If got any eFD promo, please let me know.
