i am not so much into streaming from pc, etc. as i prefer to do local playback for larger files which i tend to collect and keep.

smaller files, fabulous quasar can do direct on the tv itself, don't even need a box! biggrin.gif

but it's a useful feature.

perhaps dual band gigabit will also boost overall wifi strength and coverage over say 50 ft?
*
Coverage about the same unless you get those models with strong antennas. I had to use a wall plug extender in my master bedroom. The distance is approx 30+ feet away on the same floor but blocked by a toilet and another bedroom.

Actually I'm not sure why the 2.4Ghz channel can't stream smoothly while the 5Ghz channel can.

5 Ghz usually has lesser coverage area compared to 2.4Ghz, but throughput is much better and it is rated for higher bandwidth.

Dynamic is usually too bright!

3 ways u can play..

.. eco off.. eco1.. eco2
.. std, movie, dynamic, etc.
.. each of them, adjust own detail preference

Have fun for 2 weeks. Then u will settle for something.

yes, i understand that 5ghz as a higher frequency is stronger than 2.4 but with higher losses, it's only good for short distances.

question is how short is short... 20, 30, 50, 100ft? at what point does it negate the use of 5ghz? depends on the router specs, i would think.

"throughput" - this is interesting, meaning it can "push" more bits and bytes per sec? if so, that will surely be good.

will need to read up and test at next opportunity.

something to do with...

.. operating frequency efficiency
.. router specs
.. tv networking specs

i suppose! biggrin.gif

will be good if you can test a 35-40gb bdmv m2ts video, see if the tv and router can take it. thanks.

my android box can take everything except this size of bdmv's when it comes to streaming wifi 2.4ghz from pc.

35-40 GB will take quite awhile to download, I'm only using the basic Maxis 10 Mbps. If I have time I'll let u know how it goes.

Now Time has 500 Mbps .. Should be crazy.

How far 5ghz can reach will depend on your router but I would think that 50ft is too far based on the test results I've seen online. 20 ft radius will be more common.

only 20ft... not very useful then.

will read up and experiment a bit more.

The 5ghz band signal coverage is less compare to 2.4 but transfer speed is much faster, i get around 50-60mbps with 2.4 while 160-170mbps with 5ghz AC mode from speedtest app.

thanks, that's good to know.

meaning 5ghz should be able to handle bdmv's 1080p & 2160p if distance is <30 ft.

I just downloaded "Point Break" 42GB. But when i used Kodi to play the 00001.m2ts file, the video is grainier than most 1-2 GB video i watched. Is there any setting i should adjust? hmm.gif

the kodi u get on the tv is as good as any kodi in any box.

if u get the right build, it works wonders.

yes, check up kodi thread, experiment - kodi takes quite some knowledge and trials to get it working well.

that movie was filmed in uhd4k (or higher), available in bluray 4k.

the file u hv is a 1080p, maybe not ripped well.

yes, it does come out a "grainy", like some others that come out darker than usual.

i think it's because the tv upscales the 1080p. if u use a 1080p tv, it will not be the case.

i assume u are using kodi in the tv.

i am not sure if u can change the video output in kodi to lower, say 1080i or 720p.

if u r using a box like i do, can set the box output that way, the tv will upscale "less".

that way, it will be less grainy - i tried it, but observed that details are be lost.

i like it "grainy"! biggrin.gif i set my box to 2160p 24 or 30hz, the tv does whatever it can, picture is as good as it gets.

by the way, the movie is a visual dazzler - you want to see the color and details of the mountains, snow, water, forest.. besides the freckles and moustaches! laugh.gif

Yes, i played in tv using kodi. When i tried a 4GB file The Happening, i was amazed at the incredible details of the freckles biggrin.gif as you said. So i decided to download one of the largest movie file i could find but the result is not what i expected. will try to see if i can tweak the output to lower later...

add - it's also grainy when i played in PC.

it's the file itself.

such bdmv's come in a variety of "quality" too.

i actually dislike some of them that come out too dark! biggrin.gif

if u know kodi, do make full use of it.

the tv android can take up to 9gb of your own stuff, so, plenty to work with.

e.g. those 4gb files u mentioned, u can actually get them direct on kodi-quasar on the tv.

assuming u hv 10mbps or higher.

and u get live sports incl bpl in hd - just the tv, no need any box. tongue.gif

do visit the kodi thread!

have been thinking whether to get 56 inches 330 or 50 inches 630, was thinking both are 4K tv from sharp and the picture quality should differ that much.

but i went to SenHeng today to compare side to side, the 630 is really better. well not very tech savvy, but 630x does look much better.
