i do not know samsung except that it works on tizen, not androidtv found in sharp, sony and philips.

so, it will be a little different.

if u know androids, it works exactly the same, be it tv, box, tablet or phone.

to change dns, u just go to network settings, switch from dhcp to static, and key in yr new ip/dns.

ue630x will give netflix uhd, but what dns u use to get usa content, i wouldn't know.
*
I have Getflix dns, quite easy to switch region for my netflix in my Samsung TV, netflix uhd on the samsung tv works fine too.

Hi guys,
Kinda need urgent help. I'm using 630x. Previously was using Unifi with HyppTV but just switched to Maxis Home BB.
How can I watch 8TV, NTV7 and TV3?
Tried downloading Tonton from Play Store in 630x but couldn't find it. Can't even find Google Chrome in that Play Store.
Hope sifu here can help me solve this as my parents love to watch the hokkien dramas on 8TV.

Many thanks in advance.

not a good move if parents want those channels and u gave up the hyppbox.

the tv has a good android inside but is not going to give what hypptv or astro can give.

options:

.. learn what androids do, learn kodi... can get tv3, 7, 9 (not 8 to my knowledge but some experts probably can get) but no guarantee they remain.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3943906
.. get help from some one, use hypp everywhere on the tv (again, need to know how androids work)
.. get astro iptv

the tv will show only apps it selects and approved by sharp. but u can open up the android to install yr own apps in there, incl chrome browser.
read the manual, check out all the functions incl settings.

the android inside is a good one.

Oops..bad decision....

HyppTV for local channels, most people are not seeing them but if you need it, they're good...

Somehow I found a tutorial on Youtube but I only managed to get TV1, TV2, TV3, TVi(?) and others but not 8TV and NTV7.
Reason why I switched to Maxis is because Unifi at my home is getting slower (prolly TM is messing with it since I didn't want their 30mbps upgrade).
A little regret now...haha. Is there any ways we can install a phone version of Google Play into the 630x? I installed the Play Store apk but it says this version is not compatible with the TV. Gahhh...!!

The youtube there is very good.
Just search "uhd", u find dozens of nice videos in 4K - u need to set to 2160p at youtube; assuming u have good speed.
Search for skynews - this UK news station comes on live in HD.
Not many live TV stations on Youtube, I find.

The playstore there is customized to allow only certain apps and versions.

Any apk will work on the TV android after u allowed access for "user installed apps" in settings.

Chrome browser... just google on pc, get the apk and install it with es file explorer (this one, u can get at TV playstore).

Some knowledge about androids is required to do the above and more.

anyone has opinion or used philips 55" PUT6800 model?

considering sharp 58" 630x or this philips.

plus side for philips is more hdmi and connection ports and cheaper
downside is 3" smaller

this one?
http://www.mea.philips.com/c-p/55PUT6800_5.../specifications

never checked this tv, but from the specs...

4 hdmi, 3 usb = same as sharp ue630x.

android os = same.

but it says android 8gb memory expandable with usb - this may be useful for heavy android apps user.

my suggestion would be to trust yr eyes and wallet. the 2 together will give u the answer.

yes, this.

my gut feeling is no wrong to choose sharp 630x, forgoing others like LG,sony and samsung.

but my dad likes the philips model put8509 and also this put6800.

one thing u will like if u have broadband 30mbps or higher.

whether sharp or sony or philips - their 4k tv's come with google android os, currently all of them are lollipop 5.1.

this feature is valuable:

.. netflix uhd 4k.
.. youtube with 4k 2160p videos.
.. can install your own apps - the most powerful one is KODI:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3943906
with KODI, it opens up a whole new dimension - int'l news, sports, movies, etc. in hd too.
if new to kodi, do get to it if u buy an android os tv. no need for any box!

58" sharp 630x delivered today

now i understand that the KODI you all have been mentioning is used to be XBMC.

i used that with rasperry pi since 2 years back playing movies in living room stream from my pc.

btw, i use external speaker connected via 3.5mm cable. even so the built-in speaker still plays eh?
but when its in smart mode (kodi or youtube) external speaker has no sound, need to turn on the built in speaker volume.

is there anyway to disable built in once audio-out is connected?

thanks dc, change audio output to variable. built in disabled.

btw, youtube is still on version 1.0.5.4. no options for video quality like previously discussed.

on smart mode, settings > about > system update is at version 5.1. cant find any newer update.
on tv setup, no option to update anything.

how do you solve this?

i think there is a lag.

just wait a few days, it will either auto update or prompt u to update firmware which will give the new youtube.

i also think it may be dependent on broadband speed - if it detects >20mbps, should be fine, auto update.
