Foxconn had said they will "leave the sharp biz alone". So, for a while at least, biz as usual.
I do no think there is any new model since.
But like anything else, the ue630x probably were made in batches, with some in 2016 or even 2017, i would think.
How to check that, i hv no idea.
One thing u can check is the android version.
Older ones will still have 5.1 while newer should have 6.0 or 6.1.

My unit is 1 yr 8 months now, 5.1, enjoying it thoroughly.

What is this lgu model? A new sharp 4k hdr?
If price is comparable, getting it with a good adroidbox is worth considering.
Esp if u do a lot of playback with big files, high quality for video and audio.
The ue630x usb playback function is not very good.

LG UJ652T as in LG TV, not sharp.

But the "supposedly new" sharp 4k have an aged looking OS on it. Didn't really bother after seeing the OS. Maybe the salesman was just misinformed. USB playback not a concern (parents).

Will check the android version.

u mentioned it's for parents' use.

for anyone's use, the TV is not an issue.

using the androidTV or the androidbox can be any issue.

both ain't easy for older folks unless they already now/use PC/tablets a lot.

a box may be a little easier in terms of flexibility and capability.

more so if u want to go for ahem iptv.

androidTV is neater, just the TV on but will require someone to install, update the apps too.

androidTV has certain controls, will not allow certain apps to be installed.

Pulled the trigger.

Parent's are not that old, still working. Main use is JUST for watching shows on the internet. No astro, no tv. I figured it easier for them to use Kodi (I can set it up, updating is another story...) rather than them going to websites to watch with a bunch of ads popping up.

A bit of buyer's remorse in that it's not the "latest and greatest" model, like you can get from other brands (like LG), with new tech improvements for the TV itself (bla bla wide color gamut, Color Sense Pro etc).

Now, to find an air mouse remote that will work great with Kodi and the TV itself, since they liked the pointer from the LG TV's magic remote.
Any suggestions?

congrats on buying the tv.
while the tv is just 4k uhd, it is a good slave to any input, for the price u pay.
i playback high quality videos from an androidbox, the clarity and color depth at the tv are excellent.

me and others have posted quite a no. of "tips" on this tv, do read them.
for starters, explore the tv, the various settings, device pairing, the androidtv, how to restart android.
read the manual - electronic copy or the online copy at the tv itself.
from playstore, u can install whatever u wish; kodi and es file explorer would be necessary.
esf is needed to sideload other apps not found in playstore - u get the apk's from pc and install with thumbdrive.
u can install almost any normal app in it. only the "dodgy" ones will be rejected due to tv security reasons suspicious of malware.

i hv tried many apps on it but now i keep to just a few, no need so many.
there are several free apps that give decent live itpv, so i get all the news.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3115619/+200
kodi - install whatever addons u like but there are problems lately, u need to keep up:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3943906/+3720

remote, mouse, air mouse... i am using it with a mele f10 airmouse w/keyboard. can also use any common wireless mouse. take note some apps still the original tv remote for certain functions.

seems like the tv has a low brightness? or is it just my unit?

parents complaining it's super dark during the night.

u can have it super dark or super bright.

.. go to settings, control - u can choose off (brightest), ec01, eco2 (darkest).

.. for each input to tv, u can select std, (darkest), movie, pc, dynamic (brightest).

.. for each of std, movie, dynamic setting etc., u can set yr own for individual parameters... contrast, sharpness, etc.)

so, set it to off, dynamic, high contrast, it will be as bright as the midday sun! biggrin.gif

u gotta spend time to read the manual and play with all the buttons on the remote.

u should discover all of it after a week or 2.

I don't need the smart feature of Sharp UE630X series as I will be using a separate Android box / media player box. Do the less smart range UA440X and UA330X have the same PQ?

this tv runs on google androidtv.

it can take many popular apps incl hyppewhere, astrogo, iflix, kodi, etc..

besides the approved youtube, netflix, etc.

hv u used anything android before - box, tablet, phone?

if yes, easy.

if no, will hv to explain a bit.

go back 20-30 pages, read some of the posts incl mine which talks about app installation.

see if u can get some of it going.

Is this still the best value TV? There's a wide range of new TVs now when I visit Harvey Norman. Even Sony has Oled.

its subject to what you are looking for and how much you are willing to spend. for me, my wife think sharp colour better as compare to sony 7500D, (both are 4K Android and similar price range) Sony with HDR but is consider mid range in Sony and Sharp 630x is older model without HDR but better build quality + extra smart remote.

ok, i think u installed hyppewhere on iphone with the appstore.
apple ios apps are NOT the same as android apps.

google androids have playstore.
google androidtv have a playstore too but is restricted, much less apps than the generic playstore.
this is for control and security of the TV less some malware gets in.

u cannot find hyppewhere, astrogo, iflix in the tv playstore.
u need to first install es file explorer from playstore.
then u find the app (apk) from pc, copy onto thumbdrive, insert it into TV usb slot, install with es file explorer.
https://apkpure.com/hypptv-everywhere-table...m.huawei.pad.tm
this is called sideloading, enables u to install apps that are not found in tv playstore.

yeah, read back the pages, try.

Main importance is the picture quality, not the fancy terms they use. How it looks on the screen for the same price is what counts.

Sold my 58UE630X some time ago, but now I see 65in screen becoming more affordable.

Yup prices of 65 inch tv does drop a lot compare to 2 years back. I guess now the entry is around 55 inch. guess next year the entry will be 65 inch and the prices will drop more. so imho is after buying the TV, stop looking and make the best of the current TV set you had buy. (it will last a good couple or years for me for this tv set)
