Is the UE630x on the market currently 2017 models or 2016 or *gulp* 2015 models?

I ask a shop and they assured us it was 2017... another shop said sharp was bought over by foxconn (taiwan) and new models no longer have androidtv on it.

Ue630x launched in mid 2015.

Hisense bought over sharp USA, the plant in mexico.

Foxconn bought over rest of sharp.

I read the new sharp model in USA is actually hisense, non-androidtv, 4k hdr.

Have not read or seen anything in the local shops new since foxconn acquisition.

A new model should hv a new model or series no., unlikely to be same.

Thanks for the info AVFAN.

So essentially, I'll be buying the mid 2015 model, manufactured in either 2015 or 2016 then? Or did Foxconn continue to produce the same models this year still?

Was going to get the 50UE630x for Kodi (+ air mouse, ease of use for parents). But they're like "get the newer model". Alternatively is non android LGUJ652T with an android box.

Foxconn had said they will "leave the sharp biz alone". So, for a while at least, biz as usual.
I do no think there is any new model since.
But like anything else, the ue630x probably were made in batches, with some in 2016 or even 2017, i would think.
How to check that, i hv no idea.
One thing u can check is the android version.
Older ones will still have 5.1 while newer should have 6.0 or 6.1.

My unit is 1 yr 8 months now, 5.1, enjoying it thoroughly.

What is this lgu model? A new sharp 4k hdr?
If price is comparable, getting it with a good adroidbox is worth considering.
Esp if u do a lot of playback with big files, high quality for video and audio.
The ue630x usb playback function is not very good.

LG UJ652T as in LG TV, not sharp.

But the "supposedly new" sharp 4k have an aged looking OS on it. Didn't really bother after seeing the OS. Maybe the salesman was just misinformed. USB playback not a concern (parents).

Will check the android version.

u mentioned it's for parents' use.

for anyone's use, the TV is not an issue.

using the androidTV or the androidbox can be any issue.

both ain't easy for older folks unless they already now/use PC/tablets a lot.

a box may be a little easier in terms of flexibility and capability.

more so if u want to go for ahem iptv.

androidTV is neater, just the TV on but will require someone to install, update the apps too.

androidTV has certain controls, will not allow certain apps to be installed.

Pulled the trigger.

Parent's are not that old, still working. Main use is JUST for watching shows on the internet. No astro, no tv. I figured it easier for them to use Kodi (I can set it up, updating is another story...) rather than them going to websites to watch with a bunch of ads popping up.

A bit of buyer's remorse in that it's not the "latest and greatest" model, like you can get from other brands (like LG), with new tech improvements for the TV itself (bla bla wide color gamut, Color Sense Pro etc).

Now, to find an air mouse remote that will work great with Kodi and the TV itself, since they liked the pointer from the LG TV's magic remote.
Any suggestions?

seems like the tv has a low brightness? or is it just my unit?

parents complaining it's super dark during the night.
