WoW CCK...SOOoooo Cheap? how long u been renting first? taxi fares/Electric/Water all rises but not your rental?
I just rented at CCK too 3 mins walk to MRT..guess what rm520 Common Room! where this is the cheapest among other places that i survey  wink.gif
*
Yea, I think since Sept 2006. At first, the landlord wanted to rent us at SGD450 but we negotiated until SGD360. Without AC obviously. But still, my place is kinda cool as it faces a big soccer field. BTW, from my place to Yew Tee MRT station is around 5-10 mins walk.

We need any working permit to get a phone number at sg?
I havent get my working permit yet, but i need a phone number before i work there.
*
Yes, you need at least a Work Permit to apply for a postpaid mobile line and you need to pay deposit of SGD200, IINM. For EP holder, you don't have to pay any upfront deposit. You can try using prepaid line. That only requires to register using your passport.

can anyone guide me on the monthly expenses in singapore? how much would it be for food & transport?

thanks

QUOTE(Fallen_D @ Jan 27 2008, 02:15 PM)
In my opinion, it depends. If u r working in s'pore, its cheaper compared to u bringing RM into S'pore.

A wantan noodles in Orchard road is $4, and in Petaling Street is Rm4 (i am not sure, haven't been to kl for 1 year). To me, for food its a dollar to a dollar. So, how much u spend in eating out a day (assuming u eat out 3 meals a day)?

For traveling, it depends where u are staying and where u need to travel. If u stay in one corner of the island and need to travel to the other side everyday, its expensive. Taxi fares are a bomb, especially in town area and during rush hours. A friend of my cousin stays in Punggol and took a taxi to NUS, the fare was $32.

Your question is kinda difficult to answer... shocking.gif
*
For myself, I'm working in Orchard and staying in CCK. So travelling is a waste of time. It takes me around 1 hour journey from my home to office. But still, my rent dirt cheap and worth it.

Anyway, my transport expenses per month around SGD100 (only include from home to office and fro) and food around SGD300 (usually 2 meals a day). And I go back to Johor almost every weekend.

midnight taxi rate is more exp surcharge applies...

imagine nite fare start from S$3 i fogot ..where the meter below there's another charges whaa
*
Forget about taxi if you.. Its too expensive even for local like myself. If you are working in CBD area, surcharge $3 entry and 35% on top of fare during peak. OF peak, fare only raises 10%... Anyway, let the authority have a feel of what they approved.. price themselves out of market with many taxi drivers complaining drop in taking. Will see the result in another 2 months time as they claim will become stablised.

Well, lots depends on where you work. If you are withing industry area, price would be cheaper than Orchard Rd.. if you work in Heartland are like in HDB housing town such as Tampines, Toa Payoh, AMK, prices also varies, but definitely not as high as in most shopping malls, Orchard area.

Shopping malls/centre price for chicken rice ~$3.5 -$4
more expensive places, Takashimaya SC, Raffles City food court, Marina Square Food loft, etc...
HDB heardland area, depending on where ~ $2 - $3
Bedok area $2, some coffee shop $2.5 and air-con food court in Tampines $3
Cheapest at matured estate like Tampines, $1.2 - $1.5

Coffee at coffeeshop ~$0.80/cup

So if you earning SG$, with few $K income, not a problem at all... in fact, you would have enough saving to send back to MY.. Just yesterday, few pages of report in ST with photos on Indian construction workers some as long as 15 years here doing well back in their country with what they made in SG.. IF you can survive, don't see any problems.. Of course, we can't really compare with them, but at least, just for your consolation.

Of course, prices of items have been going up... can't be help as its a global phenomenen.. what to do. but $ for $, I don't see why because if you earn SG$, y ou have better spending power than earning the same amount in Ringit

ohh yeah recruitment agency do earn commission from successful jobs? or they will take certain amount from your pay?

Once u gets hire at S'pore, will u be under the agency account or the co. account ? when the pay slip arrive...straight to agency then route back to u?

Rental in singapore is not really that high as expected if you willing to take time o find and dun mind stay with owner. Take time to find more than you can get the price shawnlst get.

1) if they manage secure a job for u, they will earn commision from employer and not you, no need to worry.

2) you can be under agency or company. depends what job you get.
If under agency, mean u r outsource to the company but employ by agency. So your payslip is under agency name
if direct employerment from the company, then ur payslip is under company name.

Just wondering how much is the average salary for IT support for MNC in Singapore with 5 years experience. I'm thinking moving to Singapore if I got the right job and offer.

------------

whereas for payment wise...usually Co. hire agency to search for jobs (technical) where mostly will "we" be directly direct co. account...do i get all the beneficial form direct co. where im under outsource co.? hmm.gif

You can get slightly better than that at trade show like IT show. I had enquired too sometime back, even SG brands LCD 32"TV actually had the LCD screen made by Samsung, but you have to ask the right person to find out. But who cares, its really cheap.... but I don't know since you mentioned its cheaper than MY..... To top it off, you can pay a little close to $100 for another 4 yrs warranty which I often do.. so far touch wood.. .if you are like me that "SWAY", anything electronics items I bought also keput after 1 yr warranty, better buy the extended warranty.. I have no regret.. because I had taken back what I had paid for.. you be your judege.

hi i think i can help u on this.

Tiong Bahru my frens staying there 2 yrs back. Rental common room was S$600 not inlcuding PUB each month S$20 =S$620/ month (2 yrs back -current)

Last 2 week went S'pore meet up with agent told me Tiong Bahru /Red Hill cost S$900 per month

Yesterday another Agent email me guess what S$1200 per month

Y? this is due to the place is too dense and they are having good food there... whistling.gif

No point staying so exp place, or maybe u r one of them who's willing to spend so much on rental wink.gif

S$1200 bond + S$1200 1 month rental= S$2400 =RM5496 (2.29 currency)
Never forget agent fee..may vary from half of the rent per room. S$300~S$600 = RM687~ RM1374

Total Without Agent =RM5496 sweat.gif
With Agent= RM6183 ~ RM6870 shakehead.gif

You like that place? I don't think it will come cheap. It is right inside the city area. and Tiong Bahru used to be a private estate with many low rise buildings. In fact, one sector of it has been converted into some kind of hotel or hostel .. something like that..
