Why my Monte Carlo growing so slow? So slow that even the brown algae starting to grow on it.

Light enough, CO2 got.
*
other tank parameters have a ton of effects as well; substrate, fertilisers, photo period, light intensity

It does take 1/2 to one hour to show current co2 level. Without co2 drop checker, you wouldn't know whether co2 is enough.

Any advice if we should turn off our CO2 when the lights are off?

There are theories out there that we shouldn't turn it off to avoid fluctuation of CO2 everyday.

In natural, everyday got night and day, so at night, plant will rest. So the light timing shall consistent on-off
We need Co2 injection coz the Aquarium water unable disolve air Co2 to water fast enough, and plant need Co2 to grow.
Thereby Co2 shall be turn on 1-2hr before light and turn off 1hr before light off.

I don't see any problem with continuous CO2 injection even when the lights are off. The only bad thing is wasting CO2 gas. If you worried CO2 fluctuating, that's why it is always recommended to turn on CO2 one to two hours before lights.

Well, the the worries on CO2 fluctuation is on the fish health. I think it is still fine for the plants. biggrin.gif

Is anyone here using Chihiros Doctor Mate?

Is this thing useful? Or more like just an accessory?

using same brand, similar solenoid, after 4 years using got to replaced, bought from here but malfunction after i think less than a year, so i ordered 1 from taobao which was much cheaper, havent used yet as i bought a mufan while waiting for the taobao 1 to arrived back then.

so my take on this is, would be better to just get a brand new 1 as there are many cheaper alternatives these days

hi all, i m very new to this and have just got myself a Fluval Flex 57L tank.

I have been learning about aquascape and for the tank i will also include some guppies. Is there any place that i can learn more about substrate? I want to ensure the correct compound and are use.

Looking at
- ADA Power Sand Advance (M size bottom layer)
- ADA Power Sand (small size top layer)

Will this combination be ok? Looking at the below kind of setup

you will need the normal ada soil to cover power sand
else it will float because its pumice

with your tank size you will have difficulties keeping power sand advance in the soil
unless you fill up your tank with 3 inch+ of soil to keep it down
which can be hideous

don't waste money on buying expensive pumice
just get the normal ada soil v1 or v2, the differences is the tannin leaching its much more with v1
fill it up to 1 inch or 1.5 inch

substrate quality is not important if you are only planting mini hair grass like in the video
you no need dry start either; like the video unless you start with very small amount and afraid of algae issues
if me i would look into the filter and amount of guppies you are getting, don't get too much as it will be hard for you to success
mini hair grass is very forgiving, it will grow well with right amount of light and some nutrient dosing now and then

probably you can just get ADA soil as substrate and slowly learn tru this additive, fun but yet sometime make you down (especially plant/livestock dying, algae attack)

my experience on starting this hobby is that it is quite normal that people will do rescape very soon for first few tank, if budget is not controlled properly you can easily eat bread for whole after invested in certain equipment/item cry.gif

whoa... Fluval really bangsawan type of tank. Congrats and welcome to the new hobby.
am sure you will spend a lot of time and enjoy the process (and frusst at time)

Yup- as JunShen say.... just go for ADA soil- we dont really need power sand. ( as also bought it for my first aquarium..)
get a decent filter... if budget one - Dpphin, but the flow is really below what state in the box. so go for CF600 at least. Go Fluval if budget permit.

i have little luck on mini hair grass... tried for like 2 years still without much success... will rescape again and try again.
On the other hand, my MC been doing well

Anyway... just sharing a new
