i'm same situation as huonhengchai family tada interest in dog... i got one b4 but gave away to a friend...now condition at home susah nak jaga dog...only got creepy crawlies and scaly reptiles...

but i luuuurrrvvve greyhounds....here nobody seems to keep..? the last dog closest to a greyhound i saw is a whippet...

I have one now, mix breed.
very obedient boy, bring him go for walk no need leash.
Even if I cycle the fella will stay by my side.
too bad he old now.

so pity... aiseh, wat dog u own previously? so still got go visit him/her ar? Waaa, creepy & scary crawlies & reptiles somemore, do u ever consider sharks ar? Greyhounds.. the 1 looks skinny but quite big sie 1 is it? attach 1 for u hehe.. wat color u like?

yooo sorry for not posting anything yet... i am dog lover also i got my dog name Prince was 8 months golden retreiever. He was dam naughty and like to bite my leg when i wearing long pants. Maybe he like long pants. And i just have him 5 days so still out of control.

But he is friendly and like to play all the time. Non stop if u play ball with him. He wont felt tired event long hours play. Let make a real meet of dog and go out yam cha with all rather than imagenary Kopitiam

I donno about doggy years but he's been with us for almost 10 years, got him since he's a puppy

i thought i saw a friendly kopitiam for dogs in usj..dont know if still got.that was like 2 - 3 years ago i think...

yeah 1 year human = 7 year dog i agreed... but how true ? izzit a myst or a research? or izzit base on human life cycle?

human can live 110-120 years old and dog can live about max 13-15 years old which mean 1 human year = 7-8 year. This what i understand

Grey hounds very rare... so far I've not seen them. I've seen whippets.

Greyhounds are free in Australia.
They are up for adoption when they are old and can't ran fast anymore,otherwise they will be put to sleep.

oh well...gotta keep looking then...

haha i get my prince from a breeder... with cheaper price. Below 1k with MKA certificate and pure breed(champion line) but he have some problem in his help. however i already send him to VET to check already "kao tim" but it cost me few hundred dollar.

Yeah i like husky or GSD but their not cheap that why i cant afford. It is the not so pretty husky grow compare when they live in cold place? i think it will different right? GSD can use to scare people but actually they are quite friendly

i saw in tv which introduced some cafe that allow dogs.
are puposely for dog owner and their dog.
the show is show at astro channel 33 every friday.
i think is about 8 or 8.30 pm.and it will reshow the sat at
2 p.m.. the show name is puppy oh my love.
it is a interesting show..

that show iinm talks about shops in Taiwan. not in msia

in malacca i think u can bring ur dogs to open air mamak....but not all i guess....only a few cafe allow them also....

my friend bring dog to mamak before also.

yeah i have saw hongkong and taiwan... there got alot cafe with play ground for dog together play. Alot toy and thing to play. It a good idea but dont know Malaysia got this kind restaraunt or not. If i got money(alot money) sure i will open 1

I heard from a friend.... it is hard coz the authorities won't allow coz of hygiene reasons... well, I think it is just their head talking loh, dogs that are our pets are quite clean anyway.

i love dogs... especially those cute toy dogs..
but i never have opportunity to rear 1.
last time holiday, my brother brought back his gf's shih tzu, it makes me hav the excitation to get 1...
I'm plannin to get 1... if any free adoption are available... but i scared i dun hav enough time for it...

Malaysia is one place where you cant bring your dog for a walk in the park. Not even if your dog is leash or you clear it land mines. sigh

o my Angel has a messy hair.. can't help, after grooming, several weeks later, it grows back to messy.. her hair is not smooth at all...n dirty.

Many dog joggers, but then all the parks oso stated "no pets allowed" with "dog" logo...

i think u need to comb the hair of ur Angel everyday o, wat breed is ur angel?

i comb her everyday ler.. still same same... conditioner kau kau everytime bath, left 10 minutes.. but her hair still, dunno how.

Angel's dad is a MS, mum is ShihTzu.. She looks more like MS thou, hair like SHihtzu..

Well, there is a trick to use conditioner. It will be more effective if you soak the conditioner with warm water first, then only apply on the body, hope this helps.

to soften the conditioner and let it get in to the fur more! give you dog hot water bath

erm, sorry wo disagree here, pls pls don boycott my kopitiam ok>! haha!

some dog owners used to think that bathing for dog with warm water will be better for the dogs as they might not feel that cold, but actually it cost more harm than good.

By bathing them use warm water, their "bule roma" "sorry my english is bad, means the holes which the fur grow" will actually expand. When you apply shampoo on it, it will get into the holes, then after you dry the dog up, the hole will close back and this will cause irritations.

1 more time, pls don boycott my kopitiam!

ooh, not boycotting, I'm learning only. bule roma? u mean pores

Plus, don't bath your dog too frequently. Use proper pet shampoo. If not you will end up stripping the natural oils from their hair.

i bath her only once a week.. proper shampoo, proper conditioner.. warm but not hot water... er , wat else...

Not much else.. clean ears, cut nails, brush teeth,...

agree, especially indoor dogs, now the experts encouraging not to bath as long as possible, unless it is really dirty la.

a place for dog and owners to hang out,just like kopitiam,taiwan sure got many,if u see those oversea pet programme as shown in tv..wondering m'sia will got 1 soon?

Oh ~~ as long as you know how to "talk" with the doggies ... i sure alot of dog owners would go there and let their dogs to chit chat with you while the owners talk somewhere else

not dirty but smelly wor i bath my dog also once a weeks. Remember to clean his/her ear hor... if not dam smelly ... I only use shampoo wor not using conditioner maybe buy later... but i always comb his hair 1 so look more Lengcai

if you have the capital make it a all in one thing. my idea is to get a large land, turn it into a park with artificial river or pond that allows dogs or pet owner to swim in.
there should be a Vet, petshop and grooming service as well as a cafe that serves food for people and pets, at least the pet owner can makan while waiting for their pets to be groomed.
but it's just a dream for now

i think it not a dream... that was open in oversea like holland who told by my friend. Event HK and Taiwan also have those kind of shop. If i have enough capital i will open... really 1

I am quoting questions from littlegreen here which was posted at the Pets Picture thread since this Pets Kopitiam will be more appropriate.

Yes. St. Bernard will drool.. a lot as I have been told. It is their nature so I don't believe you can train them not to drool. Even with my St. Bernard at a young age currently, I keep some napkins/cloth on hand to wipe their mouth, especially after drinking so it doesn't get all over me.

Training a dog to do his/her 'business' takes some time and a lot of patience. You can search the Internet and you will see many 'crate training' advice. When your dog is in the puppy stage, keep him/her in a crate when you are not around them. This is to prevent them from 'going' when you are not around. A dog inherent instinct is to keep their sleeping place or 'safe' place clean so they will try not to do their 'business' there. I say that only if you follow a schedule to take them out or they will be force to go when they cannot hold it.

To those that want to scream that it is cruel to keep your dog in a crate, it is not true. You are actually doing your dog a favor by keeping it safe as well while it is still young. You can adjust once your dog has learnt where to eliminate. You must of course take them out often as your dog will need the company.

Time your feeding times so you will know when your dog will want to do 'big business' and the 'small business'. Your puppy will want to eliminate after eating, drinking and playing in general. If you know where you want them to eliminate, always take them to the same place all the time and also use words like 'go pee', 'go potty', etc so your puppy can associate those words with eliminating.

Depending on your puppy's age, you may need to take them out often. I take mine out every 2hours 30mins even during the night (so yes I need sleep now.. hehehe ) If you take them outside the house and not to a specific spot in your house, be sure to use the same door as well. Your goal is to associate your action, your 'go pee'/'go potty' instructions and timing with their need to eliminate.

Once done, take them in immediately. You do not want to confuse them with 'eliminating time' and 'playing time'.

There will be 'accidents' where your puppy will eliminate at the wrong spot. If you catch them in the act, quickly make a loud noise to distract them (I usually say in a stern voice - 'NO!') and quickly take them to their designated eliminating spot. What you are doing is teaching them to associate their action at the correct spot.

DO NOT GET ANGRY with them if you find their 'accidents' after the fact. Contrary to what many will tell you especially in Malaysia, do not scold them, hit them or god forbid, 'stuff' their face in their urine or feces. All you're telling them is that you're angry at the urine or feces but not the incorrect spot. Just clean up the 'accidents' and keep doing the above.

Your 1 stop dog thingy is a great idea, dog owners will come to this "dog town" 1 stop centre and all these different shops will complement each other! FABULOUS IDEA i will say!

Money cant stop that happen, You can find invester especially dog or pet lover. maybe also find some partnership i think it is possible if u are really want it

This topic has been discussed in a lot of forums but none has seen the light. Because of what if you ask me? Check out our govt Animal cruelty act and also the current mentality of "malaysians".

There's lil chance that your proposal to open up a dog cafe will be approved. So much for transparency, etc. They'll give you lots of reasons like; too dirty, not hygienic enough, neighbourhood environment, etc.

Even if you managed to open one, i'm sure certain ppl will complain about it. Best way is to open up a normal cafe with a dog friendly concept instead of opening a doggy cafe.

yap, there will be complaints if there are anti dog persons nearby, but how if we open a 1 stop centre which means everything built nearby are for dogs, which means juz dog lovers will be around?

stillthe most important factor is goverment... if they are not willing to accept this proposal it will be very hard, unless you have baking from SPCA or other K9 organization then maybe there is a chance

That what i mention earlier like nairud, it like that... because i think we are Is***** country ? i think if we do it in another way.. Pet Cafe... that it will sound not to dog only.. might this can accepted? Got Cat Area, Dog Area, others... and Halal food sound nice ? haha and true also get support from K9 and SPCA or PAWS... and maybe some politician if we know it

PAWS and SPCA won't support these sort of projects. They only interested in animal cruelty and donations to support them.

Pet Cafe, nah... even in our country, already got law stating restaurants and cafes cannot have animals inside. They won't give licence for that. People these days bring their dogs to eat at restaurants only can eat outdoors. That is why quite a few cafes allow pets but must sit outdoors. If want to open pet cafe, then all must sit outside loh.

Actually, there was a pet cafe once... and guess what, there was no support at all from pet lovers.... I went there and it was empty empty... in the end, 1 year later closed down.

not asking the orgs to support financially,
they need place to educate people, rise donations and put up their animals for adoptions, offer them lots so they can get something out of it.
a pet cafe alone is not enough to attract people, there must be something to "make" people want to come

I think this idea is still tough to make it fly for now. Most dog owners I know in Malaysia cook their own food for the pets, do not take it for grooming and rarely take it to actual training classes. It's how the thinking is rather than the government.

Maybe start with a one stop pet shop with food supplies, toys, grooming, training classes, etc. But it may be tough like what crazymouse_yyh said, no support means it will close down very soon.

You can start one now I sure 'pong chan' you from time to time . I dont think a dog-allowed restaurant is a good idea , have a DOG PARK instead hor .

Sob Sob.... dog park closed down liao.... why? Coz same thing, not many people go and support then also loh. Last time my friends and I did 2 parties at a dog park in South City Plaza... but then the dog park rarely have people enrolling into their dog obedience classes... sigh... then closed down liao.

Never heard of any dog park probably because of my location . Always wanted to bring my honey walk walk and socialise with other dogs in a proper dog parks where people wont scream 'ANJING , ANJING GIGIT'

Ohhh... that dog park is at Seri Kembangan.... well, now no more... we thought of renting the place once a while but the price for 1 month rental was too much... Rm5k i think... can't remember....

Anyway, there is a doggie potluck this Saturday at Ikano open outdoor area... Erm... I'm not sure about the details lah but I just got this info from my friend who sms me. It's the opening of Dog Scout Malaysia... heheh... the 1st in the country.
