Hmmm... Check your dog's ears. Find the source of the stink. Sometimes, it could come from ear mites, which cause your dog to produce more ear wax than usual.

either that or your pup has been eating/smelling his poop. did you kiss him?

btw, if your pup not fully vaccinated i wouldnt send to groomers coz you never know if other dogs carrying any disease, sekali he get parvo/distemper bye bye loe.

To me, it really depends on the particular dog, some of my maltese will feel very geli if they touch slightly on pee but some juz step all over! So i've decided to use the pads as it can absorbs effectively. You can also refer to others' suggestions which i feel they are very good too!

Treats for my dogs will be their own dog food, special treats juz once in a while.
Is it all around the face or is it due to tear stain? These are what you can do:

1) Use a drinking bottle instead of bowl to contain water.

2) Clean up the ears EVERYDAY.

3) Wash the dirty area everyday & make sure you dry it up, not dry enought will cause more stains.

4) Apply cornstarch on the stain area.

5) Provide filtered water & food without colorings!
May i know what are the brands? Please list all here if possible, i'm intersted in quite many range of products, i do own many dogs.
How old is Casper currently? And what brand of milk you are feeding? If Casper's teeth already grown out, you should start letting him to chew on kibbles instead, to encourage healthy building of teeth.

Yah he does sleep, but i'm sure your dog is very alert. If your dog never sleep, then he cant tahan la. 

How old is your pup? According to the vet, best to bathe your dog once a week. 

If your dog tends to have that "doggy" smell, you can wipe your dog down with warm water and salt.

My chemistry teacher said that if you put soda bicarbonate on your dog, the "doggy" smell would go away.    I never tried it but we just wipe down our dog once she gets itchy and a bit "smelly".

First of all, congrats on teaching your pup to sit/stay.   

Like kids, dogs can be taught obedience the first day you get your dog. 

Anyway, guess you have to check your dog's teeth if the smell is coming from the saliva. 

Oh yes, do clean the teeth from time to time too because even though we give dry food, you can imagine some particles of food can get stuck in between the teeth. Brush with dog toothpaste or even children's toothpaste is ok.

Erm... for a start, you may need to teach your dog that newspaper is a NO, NO. You can roll up the newspaper and smack on the floor next to him when he's tearing it into pieces. 

Anyway what kind of breed is your dog ? Is it the large breed ? Floor mats are not suitable for large breed dogs (Well, I doubt you will keep large breed dogs at home also right ?) because they have the ability to lift the mat up easily. Smaller breed need a bit of effort to do that but you need to train your dog not to play with that - it's a mat, not a magic carpet though. 

Alternatively, you can spread the mat over the floor in the toilet without newspaper beneath (once your pup had stained the mat with it's scent). To wash, just lift the mat, dumb the poo (if he poo-ed on top of it) and rinse the floor beneath the mat (and the mat itself). No newspaper hassle !

I'm wondering if I can build something like a walkway that leads up to the toilet bowl and place the mat over the hole in the toilet bowl...

Have you taught your pup to learn the term "NO" ? Applying "NO" during the restriction process proves to be useful. As a clear reminder, a scare or two using loud sound (like smack the floor using newspaper) would be much like enforcing it.

Note : Be sure that when you say "NO", say it in a strict voice and look at the dog in the eye while upholding a stern look. Remember not to smile even if the dog looks back at you with it's puppy's eyes and beg for sympathy. 

A puppy would always want to get into some trouble wan.... but you see, he will learn as he gets older. What toys do you give him to play? If he likes to play with floor mat, which I am guessing is cloth, why not you give him his very own cloth toy. My dog since she was a puppy would chew clothes and towels.... then I fed up, bought her an IKEA soft toy that has no plastic bits. Wah, from that day onwards she has not taken the clothes... but sometimes she chew towels to get attention.

Associate the floor mat with "NO" and some newspaper scaring.... hit the floor really loud. You see, you take the newspaper to smack the legs, the dog would think you are playing with him since when dogs play, they sign each other by patting their paws onto the floor or other dogs... well, this is what I see with my dogs lah. I use newspaper to beat on the floor or on my leg really loudly and scold the dog, later ignore the fella as a punishment... well, it works for me.

Also, make it known that playing with his toys means there will be a reward. When he plays with his toys, make happy tones to your dog, say "GOOD BOY" and give a treat. So in his puppymind, if he plays with his toys he will get something good.

Toilet training takes time. For me the best toilet for dogs is grass hahah... can't go wrong with grass. My dog, I got her as a 5 month old puppy and it was a bit of trouble toilet training. I did newspaper training but it did not work well with her so I made her do it on grass and now she knows grass is toilet for her.

Generally puppies got slightly weak bladders... they got trouble controlling it so that is why simply pee and poo. Do not worry... for now he is still learning where is his toilet. For me, I like to place it at an area he can see and has easy access to.

Do not feed your dog too much Greenies... later got stomach or intestine complications.

Also, if you cannot find ways for your pup to leave the mat alone, do get a doggy repellant spray... works very well. I even use it on gerbils and hamsters if they chew on their cages. It is herbal but taste bitter to dogs and cats.

You want him to associate the tray as a toilet but if he plays in the tray, it would confuse him and make toilet training longer. The tray, always leave a piece of newspaper that has some dried pee. Your dog needs to have the pee smell at its toilet area so it would know it is the toilet area. Just a bit would do. If he plays or places his toys inside the tray, do not scold him for he would think if he goes into the tray he would get a dislike from you and be scared of the tray. Just take him away from his tray. Soon he would learn. Training a puppy takes time. Now the pup is without a doggy mom so he cannot understand things by himself. He got no role model.... a human owner can teach a dog but is very slow since we do not know how to talk dog and dogs do not know how to talk human, so now you have to show your pup in tone of voice and body language.

Petaling street have ? Erm... I saw one in Pet's Safari that resembles the chinese "qua" but the price is around RM60 to RM70. I think we may bite the bullet and get one for him just for CNY but if there are any cheaper versions out there, please inform or PM me yah !
