sure, sure vandetta we can meet up someday smile.gif i'm in pg, i suppose ur in KL, rite? PM me if you ever wanna discuss anything. btw, i was told that we can increase the VRAM in the MB to 224MB. Anyone tried this? Decided to take the MB as I can switch between MAC OS & Win. BTW, I postponed my unit till Leopard comes out, the guy in the store adviced me, i think i will take that as I spent 500 bucks on Tiger just few months after I got my PB so I would rather wait few months to save that money.

wow, thats a long post mate. you did mention that it 90% of the world uses Win coz it is a standard. As far as i can remember, over the years, Apple has always been trying their very very best to make file sharing and hardware sharing as compatible. I must say that they should be credited for it as I can use so many hardware without problems. Only thing is when it comes to certain apps like Excel and PPT it is not that close yet. All I'm complaining is that most importantly they should make sure that alignments don't run, i am sure other stuff e.g. animations in PPT can wait, tough they are mostly available in MAC's PPT. Things like that are kinda annoying at times coz if u have a long slide show, u gotta go thru them one by one to make sure they're good as it should be before presenting it in front of an audience, you would not want to mess it up after spending so much time creating it, i think you understand that. I find myself using my Dell laptop to do presentations nowadays as it can be tedious to go thru the whole thing to make sure it works excellently. Also, like I said, I do not know why, but some pics turn up distorted when you insert them in Word when they're not supposed to. Also, in Excel when you copy something off the net, the formatting does not follow.

These kind of things put you off, esp. when you use them very very often. Those are the areas they need to fine tune, they're close there, but just not there yet.

Since you can do programming on a MAC, I think most of my probs are solved. Anyways, final release of Boot Camp will be out with Leopard, or we still have got Parallels, anyways..

Just imagine, if only they upgrade the MB's processor to Core 2 Duo and incl. a 128MB g/card, it would be awesome, i guess i shall camp out of the store to get mine when they release it...only if they do. Newayz, wei posted a thread that on August 7 i think there will be a product release..time will tell.

gotta get back to doing my research work..You can reply me via PM, i think it is more proper as this discussion is starting to sway off the topic of this thread.

gtg, till then... thumbup.gif

Yep, I'm in KL dude. Haha same to me here, I also going to wait until Leopard is out before switch to Intel Mac, that would be the best for my buck. For the time being, I will stick with my iBook G4 and iMac G5, don't yet feel it's obselete. But playing with my gf's MB do make me feel jelous sweat.gif

Yep I do agree if they can make a notebook with dedicated Graphic Card since in Windows world 4K notebook already can get dedicated Graphic Card, why not for the highest spec of the MB, they give us dedicated Graphic Card also. But it's easier to talk than done, right? tongue.gif

Exactly dude, playing with a friend/relative's MB or MBP just gets you more and more tempted. But, we, as "smart" consumers notworthy.gif shall wait till the release of Leopard, saves us 500 bucks which we can use for RAM upgrades.

Yes, a dedicated graphics card will be good, 128MB will be good enough. They can throw in a 256MB for the 15" MBP and 512MB for the 17" MBP. In the world of Win notebooks, components are pretty cheap, i guess that's why you get very decent specs for just RM 4K.

Someone in Dell told me that every week, they scout around for the cheapest component of certain specs from different manufacturers who eventually keep reducing their prices because of stiff competition. Then again, their build quality is unmatched with Apple's. This, even a kid can differentiate. My Latitude D410's build is like a plastic toy. It's so flimsy and the material is so bad that i've already got scratches on it.

Till then..cheers thumbup.gif

I can't imagine if someone lives in Malaysia but still bought Dell's notebook although they can get other brand of notebook with better quality.. Poor them..

As for the time being, I still could not find any rumors about new Merom MB/MBP. If anybody manage to find anything, plz tell me biggrin.gif

hairol... i've also just installed the latest SMC firmware for the macbook. The fan sounds the same.
Anyways... just wondering... Can you delete the firmware update file once you have already installed the firmware? Not too sure about this lah, coz the update file is still located in the Utilities folder...

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's safe to delete it. Once the patch has altered the System Management files it's a permanent change, so there's no longer any need for the downloaded file.

hey guys... just wanted to let you know that i've finally managed to successfully install WinXP in my Macbook. Downloaded the latest BootCamp 1.1 beta and this time around, the installation process went smoothly, partitioning was down rather fast, and the installation of WinXP didn't take more than 30 mins. The Mac drivers CD was also successfully installed without any fuss. I'm a real happy bunny now smile.gif

I've been a religious user of Microsoft's OSes since I started using computers. Alright, so I'm leaving out the fact that the first computer my family ever purhcased was the Apple Macintosh. Aside from that, I've stuck with Microsoft through Windows 3.1x, Windows 95 Plus, Windows 98, and Windows XP. I'm looking into laptops for college use and damn - the MacBook Pro is perhaps the single most tempting offering out on the market today. Forget Tablet PCs, forget IBM's Thinkpad X60. I want a MBP.

I have a few questions and concerns for the MB / MBP owners here, though. I'll probably wait until Apple releases a new iteration of the MBP with the Intel Merom cores. Until then, how's the Photoshop CS2 performance? How fluidly does Windows XP run on a MB / MBP? Are Apple laptops picky with matching memory? Could I pair a single 1GB with a single 512MB stick?

So damn tempted.

I heard its still sucky......Well , you would need to wait for the next version of Photoshop to support Universal then its going to blow

To tell you the truth , it just blows you away. In fact tests have shown that Windows runs better on a mac then on a Windows [wow...]

Nope , you can't. Its really picky...maybe the next generation MBP would fix it !

I cant answer your question about the Photoshop or the memory, but I can tell you that the macbook that I run windows in bootcamp is faster than my gaming pc is (and that's an athlon 64 fx-53!). Sure its not a very good comparison cos thats for a totally different thing but the macbook starts faster, executes programs better and all around a better machine than that despite the specs being less. Win XP is no problemo on a macbook. I'm still trying to get the bluetooth working though. I can't congratulate apple enough for making such a superb machine (despite not being an intel fan myself).

i've been wanting a own a macintosh since don't know when, but sad to say i'm stuck with microsoft, really want to switch to mac..
after reading so many good reviews from MB/MBP owners here...i'm really tempted to get myself a MB/MBP....

i guess mac os will be my primary OS if i ever get one, then will switch to windows if i ever need a s/w which does not suport mac...

The fact that the memory support is picky is somewhat discouraging. Purchasing RAM upgrades from Apple is stupidly expensive. I read that apps written in Universal Binary are fast, but Photoshop CS2 is still fluid enough to work with. Supposedly you can get Counter-Strike: Source running at 90FPS at all high settings after bumping up the X1600's clockspeed to stock settings. Daaaaaamn.
