is anyone doesn't have lte options on their iphone 5? i'm asking because i heard that maxis is going to provide lte services for iphone 5. but mine doesn't even hav the option to switch on or off the lte.

Added TakanoKyohei post on how to bypass without upgrading to 6.1.3 - only for Jailbroken phone
QUOTE(TakanoKyohei @ Apr 11 2013, 11:14 AM)
for those who still in in ios 6.0.2 or below 6.1.2. this is my method of updating the carrier list. tis method is only to make sure that itunes detect your iphone is 6.1.3 and after that itunes will automatic check the carrier setting. the method are:

1) use ifunbox and connect your iphone and go to.
Raw system file>Device>system>coreservices>systemversion.plist.
2)copy the systemversion.plist to your pc and open the file. and you should see the "<string>6.0.2</string>" in the plist. after that change into 6.1.2 or 6.1.3 and after that safe the file.
3) copy back into your iphone in the
Raw system file>Device>system>coreservices> and replace with the original systemversion.plist.
4)reboot your phone.
5) after that you go into system>general>about. check the system it is either 6.1.3 or not.
6) connect your iphone into itunes and itunes will detect and ask you to update the carrier setting.
7) update the carrier setting.
8) you should see the carrier setting is 14.1 in the general.
9) do the same method to change back the systemverion.plist to change into original 6.0.2. and reboot the phone.

your phone will detect the LTE.

p/s: some user may encounter automatic update when they check the phone is step 5.

goog luck.
Added:

Using ifunbox to take the file out from iphone.

ios 6.0.2 with LTE.
this method works on jailbroken iphone. as for none jailbroken iphone. you can always on latest firmware and should be no problem in updating the iphone carrier setting.  icon_idea.gif

If network supports LTE, then it will appear LTE instead of 3G toggle button.
I am using a network that has LTE, therefore, my phone shows LTE toggle button, not 3G toggle button.

maxis cannot provide lte for their customers because the license they have is for different band. Apple produced a phone which is not supported thus cannot use lte.

Unless Apple comes out with another model which supports our band (frquency) or our goverment approves apple's band, which is quite imposssible

Correct.

Maxis cannot anything. They dont have the license to issue 1800mhz band for LTE. No license = no LTE 1800.

Pray hard the next iPhone can support 2400 smile.gif

Other countries can use dual band. Apple most probably wouldn't bother updating the LTE chip to cater for us.

be it maxis, celcom, digi or any company in Malaysia. They cannot use the 1.8Ghz frequency, thus Apple Iphone 5 will not be supported!!!

There is nothing official about the 1800MHz LTE band. Most "sos kicap" mentioned are blog posts which I wouldn't put too much stock on those things.

MCMC only licensed the LTE Band #7 for LTE and the License was awarded to 8 players. To be able to open up the 1800 MHz frequency, they will need to do another round of bidding, by then the iPhone 5 would be superceded by the iPhone 7 or something like that.

for 1800Mhz all you have to do is fiber up existing telco towers and flip a switch and you are ready to go. for coverage sure but with increase data demands will it be enough?

besides for 2600Mhz is a whole new infrastructure that have to be build like new base stations as the wavelengths are shorter but it serves well in high density urban area like KL. it has lots of capital investment and it is much more costlier but it is build for capacity to avoid future bottlenecked issues.

you should be glad that we have 2600Mhz spectrum ready to launch instead of b****ing that we are slow

Hmm, in that case, does it mean that our telco doesn't design the network correctly in the first place to cater for high data demand? Or was it due to the nature of our country's terrain that made it difficult for telco to design and implement a good network coverage that caters for increasing demand?

telco always folo where the demand is. in this case where there is population growth, then only they will install towers.

that being said, it does not guarantee the new one will instantly hv lte. it depends on on other factor as well, usually high number of subscribers per location (metro area) to maximize revenue and backbone transmission availability.

@lilredridinghood,
Yes.. it's probably available in the city centre; Maxis says Klang Valley but really, Klang Valley is h.u.g.e.! For those who's on the LTE network, speed is as fast as 30MB. Unfortunately, I have yet to get into an LTE-serviced area so no report on speed from me yet sad.gif

And well, LTE or not, life goes on biggrin.gif

QUOTE
We have launched 4G LTE in parts of the Klang Valley in the areas of Cyberjaya, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Damansara Utama, Desa Sri Hartamas, Bandar Puchong Jaya and Bandar Sunway. Other areas that have partial coverage are SS2, Taman Paramount, Section 17 and 19 in Petaling Jaya, Plaza Damansara, Bandar Kinrara and Taman Wawasan in Puchong. We will be activating many other areas soon.

Now there is no LTE toggle in the cellular settings, only 3G. Once you are in the LTE area, it might auto change to LTE & auto ON, i'm not sure...

Now there is no LTE toggle in the cellular settings, only 3G. Once you are in the LTE area, it might auto change to LTE & auto ON, i'm not sure...

Nvm.. Just refer above attachment by abg zainudin...

Already updated with Enable LTE settings on my iphone5.

Speedtest showed about 48Mbps download but Maxis speedtest apps only showed 16Mbps download speed !!!

Location at Cyberjaya !!!

If I update to this new settings does it really mean the phone can't use Edge at all? What about if the location has no 3G or LTE? Only Edge?

Apparently this can be configured by the telco. However it seems that Maxis is setting it (for the time being) that toggle LTE off meaning disabling 4G only but the phone will run 3G/2G mode. Would appreciate it if Maxis could configure the toggle off LTE to be using only 2G while enabling it will run 3G/4G.

General ---> About ---> Then you will be prompted to update.

My advise, don update if you feel you are alright with 2G network to fetch ur whatsapp data.
Update if you always complain changing to 2G when 3G is weak beacause the latest carrier setting will make sure your 3G always on tongue.gif

So the only way to find out is for me to upgrade to 6.1.3 and try but I will loose my jailbreak.

Anyone out there able to use LTE but not on the latest firmware ?
*
Not sure why you cannot have LTE on 6.1.2???

I am still using 6.1.2 and have LTE indicator on the screen with speedtest up to 50Mbps download speed.

I think that is LTE speed dy. I personally think that maybe if you dont update to latest iOS 6.1.3, you will get LTE speed but the top bar there just show up 3G instead of LTE?  hmm.gif
*
Nope !!!

I am still in 6.1.2 and getting LTE speed at about 50Mbps download speed but when disable LTE, it will go down to 3G with about 5Mbps download speed.

So, I think it is not related to iOS version.

Then, it's time for you to move over to Semenanjung Malaysia here.

In Kuching, of course it is slow because some Chief Minister and politician eat ALL your money and that is why end up with slow speed !!!

why need to use third party apps? itunes and icloud is able to backup your messages, contacts and so on when you upgrade firmware.

1) backup to itunes OR icloud (select one)
2) upgrade firmware
3) restore back from itunes or icloud
4) everything back to normal. All data will still be intact.

TS, care to explain why you opted for third party apps?

So far no problem and Calls still can come in when still with the LTE logo showing.

BUT, when receiving the call, it will automatically downgrade to 3G logo with 3G speedtest at about 5Mbps download speed.

After awhile, it automatically changed back to LTE logo with LTE speedtest at about 50Mbps download speed.

Now after updated to Maxis 14.1 , our phone keep on be on 3G mode even though you turn off your cellular data. For those who are in a low 3G coverage area, you might see an increase in battery consumption as well as lower quality of call doh.gif

Really hope Maxis update a new carrier setting to enable us to toggle between 2g and 3g/4g

Anyway, for android phone. How's their 4G speed compare to iP5 LTE?
*
Lte on android device i guess very limited ...
Like samsung ... Note 2 lte very few in market currently .. Mostly n2 is n7100 which no lte chip inside...
They roll out on iphone5 is very advantage to them...
Just use back current stock and with lte, they can attract more customer..while android device, they might need change to new model like note 2 n7100 to n7105

Yea ... You will not notice if you are in a strong 3G coverage area. If for me, my 3G bar is always around 3 bars. So i know im on 3G network because even when i turn off cellular data, it shows 3 bars instead of full bars. Previously before updating to 14.1, it will auto turn back to 2g
*
What about the battery life? Because 3G network consumes, like, 5x more than when the phone is on 2G network.
As long as it doesn't affect battery life, I'm fine with it.

Hrm... Let me try.

1. Ip5 for msia set is using LTE band 1, 3 and 5. Band 3 is 1800 MHz. In Msia, current LTE frequency available was 2600 MHz. Band 1 and 5 isn't 2600 MHz

2. Recently Maxis got the green light from MCMC on the LTE spectrum on 1800 MHz, which is band 3.

3. So Maxis can now launch LTE for iP5.

4. To enable LTE, there is an carrier update needed. After update, you will get carrier Maxis 14.1 version. This update will change your previous setting, which is "Enable 3G" to "Enable LTE" for iP5, and ipad lte i suppose.

5. LTE is basically a data network. It will mainly stay in LTE, until someone calls you, it will quickly switch back to 3G to use back on the voice network.

Cheers.

Yea, Im very surprised too. I just got my phone not long, and I was actually checking if LTE is now usable for ip5. I got a lil butthurt when I found out, still not possible. That was 2 weeks ago. Then today, a friend posted a pic on the LTE switch option. Instantly found out, it is now here... Really pleasant surprise from Maxis. And I subscribed to data plan above 1gb. So the LTE is already enabled by default for my plan.

Though, one observation from me is, the battery seems to drop a tad bit faster. From 61% at 7:30 to 37% at 10:15pm. doh.gif

If you want the carrier update message, just turn on airplane mode for few seconds and then off it. Guaranteed will pop update notice.

Thks for the clarification.
If there is no LTE signal, will it goes back to 3G or Edge/No signal?
We know that Maxis 3G, when goes missing .. it would not spring back up to detect 3G .. will LTE has the same failure condition?

Bro, not even LTE, my iPhone 5 3G is also weaker than my Nokia N8 == Iphone on left hand and N8 on right hand, im getting full bar 3G on N8 and just 3 bars from iPhone ==

Im thinking could it be weaker antenna? hmm.gif Or maybe because of the design ( Aluminum body) which affects the signal reception ? hmm.gif

maxis cannot provide lte for their customers because the license they have is for different band. Apple produced a phone which is not supported thus cannot use lte.

Unless Apple comes out with another model which supports our band (frquency) or our goverment approves apple's band, which is quite imposssible

I'm running on 6.0.2 and still unable to trigger carrier update via Settings > General > About. I don't think iOS version matters. Any ideas?
*
You need at least iOS 6.1.x to get the Carrier Update for LTE support.

Thks for the clarification.
If there is no LTE signal, will it goes back to 3G or Edge/No signal?
We know that Maxis 3G, when goes missing .. it would not spring back up to detect 3G .. will LTE has the same failure condition?
*
I believe that the sequence is as follow:

LTE > 3G > Edge > GPRS ?

Basically, if no strong LTE signal is detected, it will fall back to 3G. And similarly, if 3G signal is weaker than Edge, it will fall back to Edge.

Just that for now, we no longer can control if we want 3G or Edge as that Enable 3G button is no longer available.

So far, I have no problems with the auto switching of 3G to LTE and from LTE to 3G. One easy way you can test is when making calls. When you are making a call, your phone will seamlessly change from LTE to 3G. Once done, it will again seamlessly switch back to LTE from 3G. Did that a few times for testing.

Hello guys... something funny with LTE. I don't know if you guys noticed this but... I left my phone in LTE and went to bed. The next morning when Im awake, usually the battery percentage would have drop like 3-4% for 3G. But for LTE, check out the pic... Amazing!

with this update.. we can never change to Edge anymore.... it will constantly on 3G.. unless when there is no coverage.. it will automatically switch to Edge...

and now.. thanks to this update... with the 3G on all the time.. battery would consume very fast...

Then this is really sad lor... Time to google how US or EU force change to certain network mode.. And from your report, could be they programmed such that to stay on 3G, then if no 3G only switch back to 2G. But can you imagine the battery life being drained? Since the 3G signal is weaker, it keeps trying to search more? doh.gif

Got pros and Cons lo. Before this ppl always complain about the iPhone too easily switch to Edge, now Maxis fixed it and force it to run on 3G network all the time tongue.gif If you are a surfer and dont care about the battery life and more on Performance, it is a good news smile.gif If you are on the opposite side, then you can only complain to Maxis like i did in hope that they will release a new carrier setting to support toggle on off between 3G and 2G smile.gif

something to share with you guys...

the situation is like this... my house area is with low 3G coverage (happy garden, kuchai lama) and previously i tend to toggle off 3G and Data toggle remain on. Yes, it saves battery...

but when the 3G toggle and Data toggle is ON, the network automatically switch back to Edge doesn't help you to save any battery because your phone will keep on searching for a 3G network (even 1bar like christcwl9 said)

to my conclusion, with the latest carrier update... u can't stop battery drainage already even thou it drops automatically from 3G to Edge... maybe there is a jbtweak that can force the phone permanently on Edge only? LOL...

by the way, no LTE connection around Happy Garden.. (although maxis claimed there is a coverage... zzz)

yeap .. before this people complain about the phone swithcing to other data and some even complain the phone very hard to get 3G line... with this update, it might please some of the maxis user here..

however,, i am more on the average user... will only switch to 3G when want to reply iimportant mail , sending mail.. download huge attachments for working purposes or assignment and FB of coruse..

the rest, i will switch up to Edge.. for whatsapp..

it would be nice if we can toggle between 2G and 3G.. so that we can have an option to choose.. smile.gif

for my experience running LTE all night, with wifi off, the battery consumption is the same as the phone with wifi turned on. Most probably the areas im in (PJS 10 and Section 19,PJ) has strong LTE signals, hence why the antennas need not work hard to locate a stable connection

apple won't listen our request for this as only Malaysia users facing this problem... while other countries have brilliant LTE or at least 3G infrastructure...
Apple not likely will release another extra toggle for the 2G connection... u can pray for a jbtweak IMO hmm.gif

Guys, this is our Carrier issue. What we can do now is to email Maxis and have them listen to us. I have already sent Maxis an email regarding this in hope that they will change the toggle LTE button priority to both 3G and 4G, meaning that if you toggle on LTE, it means it will auto be in 3G when LTE is not widely available.

When the LTE toggle is off, Maxis will auto assign 2G network for our iphone just like the previous carrier setting does. I really hope Maxis customer service will reply me soon and im eager to know how they will react towards this issue.

For people who wants to switch back to 2G, here's how (only can work if your device is jailbroken)
1. Download the Cydia tweak "NCSettings"
2. Go to Settings > NCSettings > Data and select 3G
3. Now go to Settings > General > Cellular and turn of LTE. Your phone will enter 3G mode now
4. Now slide down you notification center to reveal NCSettings. And tap on the 3G toggle to turn 3G off. Now you phone will enter 2G mode and you will see the "E" sign beside your Carrier logo.

Just go to Maxis Website and click Support. You will find a way there to lodge a complain or general enquiries. From what i read online, Maxis aka Carrier, is able to do setting on the phone, but limited to connectivity of the phone only. I am sure that Maxis can do something about the toggling of 2G and 3G, but im not sure whether can Maxis set a Toggle switch for 3G and a Toggle switch for LTE or not. Im sure Maxis can change the function of the Toggle LTE switch to both 3G and 4G only

Please check on the coverage area before anyone reporting that there is no LTE in their area.

It is not widely covered at this moment.

Yes... I can see my battery percentage dropping when I'm using the network. But if you stay idle, it wont drop as bad as being idle on 3G.

The main problem is I cant off 3G and stay on Edge. I off LTE and the 3G stays on. There is no more 3G on off toggle button. Not complaining but find it weird now I can off 3G to improve battery life.

I'm having the same problem as you. My house is in Damansara Heights and already update my iPhone to 6.1.3 and carrier to 14.1 but since this morning never receive any LTE connection. Went to Bangsar and Desa Sri Hartamas just now also still on 3G.

Wonder why.

What are the rate plans eligible for LTE services?

Subscribe to these plans to enjoy faster data speeds on your devices:
Rate plans with bolt-on data of 1GB & above (e.g. TM78+3GB, VP50+1GB.)
Rate plans with bundled data of 1GB & above (e.g. SM75, IVP50).
iValue plans (except for iValue Lite) & BBMore plans.

Is anyone here on the iValue Simple plan? Can you confirm that LTE is not enabled?

Looks like I will have to switch to iValue 1 to enjoy LTE.

Need to be 1gb or above plans

From maxis website :
How can I enjoy 4G LTE speeds?
Purchase an LTE enabled device (if you don't already own one).
Subscribe to a Mobile Internet plan of 1GB & above OR sign up to a rate plan with bundled data more than 1GB.
You must be on either a nano-SIM or a micro-SIM.

Just now i at sunway pyramid. my cousin's i5 (6.1.3) has LTE, while my i5 (6.1),jailbroken doesn't have LTE.
Both phones has LTE enabled but only his iphone 5 with 6.1.3 show LTE. Mine just shows 3G

Edit: why everyone with 6.1 LTE can work except me sad.gif is there any fix?

i think maxis should increase the quota.. even 3g i normally use around 1-1.5gb per month (+ wifi at home)... now LTE? the quota should be minimum 3 or 5GB for LTE. What is the point of LTE if one week we finish the quota and get the speed throttled. i even noticed in earlier post, someone mentioned that speed test itself used quite an amount of MB already for LTE. Just my 2 cents.

I tweeted MaxisListen and asked them why I am not able to get LTE eventhough I've updated my carrier setting & under LTE coverage.

This is their answer.

@MaxisListens: @cry4freedom Hi, currently, the LTE is not supported by the Multi SIM yet. We are working towards including this soon. TQ-Firdaus

Well, RM75 for 5GB now, not too far behind. I tested LTE indoor in some shop houses at desa hartamas. Ground floor, becomes 3G. Go up 3rd floor get 3 bars LTE. However, I tried streaming internet radio, 128kbps... still buffers =__=. Change stream to 48kbps, also buffers. Doesn't seem that stable yet...

I need to test my wife phone because she doesn't have multisim under her account before I screw them kaw kaw.

Well, some folks in Cyberjaya already confirmed they have the coverage, so maybe we'll just wait if there's any forumer whom not being able to get LTE, actually has multisim under their account.

for those who still in in ios 6.0.2 or below 6.1.2. this is my method of updating the carrier list. tis method is only to make sure that itunes detect your iphone is 6.1.3 and after that itunes will automatic check the carrier setting. the method are:

9) do the same method to change back the systemverion.plist to change into original 6.0.2. and reboot the phone.

your phone will detect the LTE.

p/s: some user may encounter automatic update when they check the phone is step 5.

goog luck.

I think none of them will charge extra when the faster speed available since their pricing is based on quota.

I have been using 1G for LTE since yesterday till early morning today. As I have reached to my 4GB quota, the speed back to the basic which is very slow. smile.gif Luckily I have wifi around.

I had two iPhones with the latest carrier settings, side-by-side in TTDI. One on iValue Simple and the other, on iValue 1. The one on iValue Simple stayed on "3G" but the other one showed "LTE".

yes it should be no problem i believe. the reason we edit the ios version is to make sure that itunes detects the ios version and do the proper update for the carrier setting. thats why ios 6.1.2 or 6.1 cannot update thiers carrier when open setting>general>about and nothing were pops up.

try using ifile and edit instead of using my method because its easier to edit and after that, update using itunes.

update us the result then. smile.gif

Just called Maxis CS regarding LTE on iPhone 5. The person I spoke to mentioned that iValue Simple is not the same as iValue Lite and confirmed that subscribers are able to enjoy LTE on the iValue Simple plan.

Is there anyone here running on LTE via the iValue Simple plan? Or, have I been fed wrong information? hmm.gif

iValue Simple is for iPhone 5; with 1GB data with RM50 subscription. It says iValue Lite is not eligible.

EDIT: iValue Lite comes with iPhone 4 (500MB data, RM70/month). Sorry for confusion.

And another thing to check - do you have nano-sim? Or manually cut mini-sim? Just to be sure, I have no idea if it relates to this problem. Just suggesting.

Last time, I cut my sim card from micro to nano in order to be used with my iphone5. Till today after all updates, I still can't get LTE connection despite be in the areas which are available for LTE.

Yeah sorry. It's the iValue Lite that is not eligible. Got confused between Simple and Lite.

So all iPhone 5 Maxis plan will have LTE. My mistake.

What SIM card do you have (cut into Nano) or original Nano SIM ?
Which plan are you subscribe to ?

are you using iValue Simple? i am this plan user too...

i'm trying to sort things out...
i get to know from maxis saying that iValue Simple is entitled for LTE, but the service will be assign to nano-sim by the batch number...

for example, currently it will be batch with serial 010 and 020 to get the LTE first... while if u r in the batch of 030, then u have to patiently wait for a while hmm.gif
come to conclusion, not every nano sim/iphone 5 will get LTE due to maxis want to avoid overloading on their LTE network...

so maybe i'm the one in 3rd batch sim or even later.... icon_question.gif

I realizes that leaving the LTE enabled, sucks the battery like crazy. Especially when you are always on-the-move. It keeps on searching for LTE, switching back & forth from 3G to LTE. Within an hour, I lost almost 20%. But luckily, I've just got myself the Morphie Juice Air Battery Case. Sad... sad.gif

I don't really agree with you. Two of my friends signed up the same package, same day & one of them hv got the LTE since the first day when LTE launched. The other one friend still waiting to get the LTE signal for more than 3 days already.

Agreed totally. These few days the battery dropped faster. But not as extreme as in your case. But one day, about 15-20% more as observed.

just want to remind you guys , do not keep perform "speed test" in LTE mode on...

because one time speed test , i check back with my "data usage" app , it eat 20++MB each time u do speed test. i scare already.. cause i only got 1GB quota.

i guess i have to go back KL area and find those LTE area and perform speed test there.

I can say that the allegations is not true.. U will still received call and make phone call..

it will switch to 3G when u make calls nad received... Then once you hung up, it will automatically switch to LTE..

At least that is the situation im experiance it now...
