QUOTE(OKLY @ Apr 9 2013, 02:44 PM) Apparently this can be configured by the telco. However it seems that Maxis is setting it (for the time being) that toggle LTE off meaning disabling 4G only but the phone will run 3G/2G mode. Would appreciate it if Maxis could configure the toggle off LTE to be using only 2G while enabling it will run 3G/4G. Agree with you bro!! I have sent an email to Maxis to request for that option. Come on let's send email together to Maxis. Together we are strong !! |

QUOTE(hovercraft97 @ Apr 9 2013, 03:32 PM) General ---> About ---> Then you will be prompted to update. My advise, don update if you feel you are alright with 2G network to fetch ur whatsapp data. Update if you always complain changing to 2G when 3G is weak beacause the latest carrier setting will make sure your 3G always on |

QUOTE(weileong @ Apr 9 2013, 03:54 PM) Speedtest achieve 52mbps at PJ ss19 area..ip5 show 3g logo...consider LTE speed or 3g speed ? I think that is LTE speed dy. I personally think that maybe if you dont update to latest iOS 6.1.3, you will get LTE speed but the top bar there just show up 3G instead of LTE? previous Maxis 3G before LTE enable only managed to get 7Mbps.. |

QUOTE(victorwan @ Apr 9 2013, 04:09 PM) Nope !!! The top bar there showing LTE instead of 3G ? Haha chill bro I am still in 6.1.2 and getting LTE speed at about 50Mbps download speed but when disable LTE, it will go down to 3G with about 5Mbps download speed. So, I think it is not related to iOS version. |

Now after updated to Maxis 14.1 , our phone keep on be on 3G mode even though you turn off your cellular data. For those who are in a low 3G coverage area, you might see an increase in battery consumption as well as lower quality of call
Really hope Maxis update a new carrier setting to enable us to toggle between 2g and 3g/4g |

QUOTE(Heero Yuy @ Apr 9 2013, 07:42 PM) Yea ... You will not notice if you are in a strong 3G coverage area. If for me, my 3G bar is always around 3 bars. So i know im on 3G network because even when i turn off cellular data, it shows 3 bars instead of full bars. Previously before updating to 14.1, it will auto turn back to 2g |

QUOTE(stevenlee @ Apr 9 2013, 07:51 PM) yep... Thanks for the info bro ! but than those already upgrade to LTE, need to off the LTE if no LTE coverage or else u will have problem with the speed.. my iphone 5 with LTE enable speed less than 1mbps with LTE off, easily hit 10mbps QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Apr 9 2013, 08:10 PM) Wow !! Fabulous speed u've got there !! QUOTE(Heero Yuy @ Apr 9 2013, 08:35 PM) What about the battery life? Because 3G network consumes, like, 5x more than when the phone is on 2G network. I am testing about this, will report here. But i think that the battery performance will be somehow similar to you turn on 3G all the time even when you go to bed. As long as it doesn't affect battery life, I'm fine with it. |

QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Apr 9 2013, 09:50 PM) Hrm... Let me try. Good 1. Ip5 for msia set is using LTE band 1, 3 and 5. Band 3 is 1800 MHz. In Msia, current LTE frequency available was 2600 MHz. Band 1 and 5 isn't 2600 MHz 2. Recently Maxis got the green light from MCMC on the LTE spectrum on 1800 MHz, which is band 3. 3. So Maxis can now launch LTE for iP5. 4. To enable LTE, there is an carrier update needed. After update, you will get carrier Maxis 14.1 version. This update will change your previous setting, which is "Enable 3G" to "Enable LTE" for iP5, and ipad lte i suppose. 5. LTE is basically a data network. It will mainly stay in LTE, until someone calls you, it will quickly switch back to 3G to use back on the voice network. Cheers. |

QUOTE(weileong @ Apr 9 2013, 10:45 PM) I just found out...My Xperia Z LTE device is always strong LTE signal VS iPhone5 LTE..My Area is Taman Pusat Kepong .. Bro, not even LTE, my iPhone 5 3G is also weaker than my Nokia N8 == Iphone on left hand and N8 on right hand, im getting full bar 3G on N8 and just 3 bars from iPhone ==Just wondering...Any Dif Between both Maxis LTE Band7 (2600Mhz) with iPhone5 Band 3(1800Mhz) Im thinking could it be weaker antenna? |

QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Apr 10 2013, 09:40 AM) I believe that the sequence is as follow: But i cant get Edge signal even with just 1 bar 3G >.< My phone keep stuck at 3G. It will only drop back to 2G awhile when im on call, then immediately after call, it turns back to 3G @ 1bar LTE > 3G > Edge > GPRS ? Basically, if no strong LTE signal is detected, it will fall back to 3G. And similarly, if 3G signal is weaker than Edge, it will fall back to Edge. Just that for now, we no longer can control if we want 3G or Edge as that Enable 3G button is no longer available. So far, I have no problems with the auto switching of 3G to LTE and from LTE to 3G. One easy way you can test is when making calls. When you are making a call, your phone will seamlessly change from LTE to 3G. Once done, it will again seamlessly switch back to LTE from 3G. Did that a few times for testing. |

QUOTE(hovercraft97 @ Apr 10 2013, 09:46 AM) with this update.. we can never change to Edge anymore.... it will constantly on 3G.. unless when there is no coverage.. it will automatically switch to Edge... Got pros and Cons lo. Before this ppl always complain about the iPhone too easily switch to Edge, now Maxis fixed it and force it to run on 3G network all the time and now.. thanks to this update... with the 3G on all the time.. battery would consume very fast... |

QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Apr 10 2013, 09:49 AM) Then this is really sad lor... Time to google how US or EU force change to certain network mode.. And from your report, could be they programmed such that to stay on 3G, then if no 3G only switch back to 2G. But can you imagine the battery life being drained? Since the 3G signal is weaker, it keeps trying to search more? Totally yes bro! My battery is running out FAST ! |

QUOTE(geek8585 @ Apr 10 2013, 10:08 AM) something to share with you guys... the situation is like this... my house area is with low 3G coverage (happy garden, kuchai lama) and previously i tend to toggle off 3G and Data toggle remain on. Yes, it saves battery... but when the 3G toggle and Data toggle is ON, the network automatically switch back to Edge doesn't help you to save any battery because your phone will keep on searching for a 3G network (even 1bar like christcwl9 said) to my conclusion, with the latest carrier update... u can't stop battery drainage already even thou it drops automatically from 3G to Edge... maybe there is a jbtweak that can force the phone permanently on Edge only? LOL... by the way, no LTE connection around Happy Garden.. (although maxis claimed there is a coverage... zzz) QUOTE(hovercraft97 @ Apr 10 2013, 10:10 AM) yeap .. before this people complain about the phone swithcing to other data and some even complain the phone very hard to get 3G line... with this update, it might please some of the maxis user here.. however,, i am more on the average user... will only switch to 3G when want to reply iimportant mail , sending mail.. download huge attachments for working purposes or assignment and FB of coruse.. the rest, i will switch up to Edge.. for whatsapp.. it would be nice if we can toggle between 2G and 3G.. so that we can have an option to choose.. QUOTE(geek8585 @ Apr 10 2013, 10:13 AM) apple won't listen our request for this as only Malaysia users facing this problem... while other countries have brilliant LTE or at least 3G infrastructure... Guys, this is our Carrier issue. What we can do now is to email Maxis and have them listen to us. I have already sent Maxis an email regarding this in hope that they will change the toggle LTE button priority to both 3G and 4G, meaning that if you toggle on LTE, it means it will auto be in 3G when LTE is not widely available.Apple not likely will release another extra toggle for the 2G connection... u can pray for a jbtweak IMO When the LTE toggle is off, Maxis will auto assign 2G network for our iphone just like the previous carrier setting does. I really hope Maxis customer service will reply me soon and im eager to know how they will react towards this issue. |
