being a fresh grad with a Mechanical Engineering background, can somebody here pls enlighten on what kind of positions can we get into and the required knowledge or skills. For example:
a) Piping engineer- knowledge required: software ABC, Mechanics of Materials, etc.. b) ... engineer- knowledge required: .... c) at least I'll know which to focus in and what to improve on. I find that its really hard to get into the OnG industry as a fresh grad. |

Well at the present time thinking of aquiring some "working" welding courses to begin my career from. Hope that will not be not needed.... |

QUOTE(cherieaplepie @ Jul 8 2010, 11:12 AM) guys, can help me out here.. Hi there. My previous company sponsored me with a short welding course under the FMM institute. You can check out the website here. The website even offer certification for Black Belt Six Sigma. Pretty cool. I'm looking for Welding Inspector Short Course as I'm plan to work in O & G Industry. Do you guys know where to attend the Course? I have asked Johor Dev Skill Centre, Welding Institute of Malaysia, ADTEC, & MINDT Training & Certs company. If any of you know where to attend other than these, please suggest to me. And also, anyone would like to share some experience as a Welding Inspector? Thanx Guys! However, I can seem to find the certification course for welding in the website. Maybe you can email them to find out more? I hope that I've helped. QUOTE(A_K @ Jul 8 2010, 10:24 PM) being a fresh grad with a Mechanical Engineering background, can somebody here pls enlighten on what kind of positions can we get into and the required knowledge or skills. For example: If you're a fresh grad, first determine ur industry. If you choose O&G, then i would suggest that you try for graduate engineer position. I don't think any MNC company would hire a fresh grad as a project/welding/etc engineer. You just have to start as a Graduate Engineer or if you know some insider in the industry. Remember, competition is tough for a position as Graduate Engineer. So, good luck! a) Piping engineer- knowledge required: software ABC, Mechanics of Materials, etc.. b) ... engineer- knowledge required: .... c) at least I'll know which to focus in and what to improve on. QUOTE(Xerone @ Mar 25 2010, 11:50 AM) Hi, everyone! I have been reading through LY forum all morning and finally decided to log into my 2 year old inactive account to mingle with you lot! Like a lot of you I am a fresh graduate looking to get into OnG with a Mechanical Engineering (MEng) degree. You can try to find o&G job at KBR, Leatherhead. I went there for HAZOP last month.Well, I'm not really here to ask any questions (yet). But I think as the weeks of unemployment goes by *touch wood*, I'll probably start asking for some help from you veterans. =) I just came back from the UK last Monday after a tiring 9-month job hunt over 80 companies. Now I'm trying my luck here and have sent applications to Halliburton, Deleum, Petronas, Exxonmobil, and a few other non OnG firms. Again, nice to meet you lot. =) |
