QUOTE(gannicholas @ Jul 6 2012, 11:30 PM) Hey runners, any idea how to get rid of sore calves? :/ plseas use ice only for sore calf or muscle...it was advise by m'sia no 1 marathoner....using deep heat will burn ur muscle.... I ran 7km last night, around 7pm. Calves still aching till now. I did applied those deep heat muscle sore medicine and stuff. My calves hurt cause i straight away run after doing leg workouts and ermm.. i didnt stretch before i ran. Lol. And i dont usually run, seldom run in other words. I have a run this coming Sunday morning, any ideas how can i get an 'instant' heal? I'm feeling a lil bit paranoid that my calves wont heal by Sunday morning, thanks! It hurts to the extend where i find it difficult to climb up the stairs. |

QUOTE(black_howling @ Jul 6 2012, 12:28 PM) I think FDR ppl can run faster...cause they allow pets to join the run as well. HAHAHA.... Does FGR allow pets to run? I thought they dropped that idea? I was looking fwd to that actually until for some reasons they couldn't execute that (maybe permission issue). They are still supporting PAWS in this run as beneficiaries but dun think there's any doggy run. suddenly 1 dog terlepas die la... |

Well, generally, applying ice is to prevent the injured part frm swelling. The 1st 48hrs U apply ice. After 48hrs, U apply heat, whether in the form of heatpacks, soaking in warm water or cream. Any sports medicine practitioner will proly recommend the same thing. |

Any barefoot runners in here? I'm quite new to barefoot running (baru 6-7 months) and looking for other barefoot runners to share/exchange experience and knowledge.
I guess I should share first. I used to be overweight. My height is 172cm. End of 2010 my weight was 94kg. I practically didn't give a damn about my health. I lack sleep, smoke heavily, eat anything and anytime i want and zero exercise. But the death of my two uncles opened my eyes. They died before reaching the age of 50. And my lifestyle is about the same with them... makan anything. I said to myself, "I can't follow this same path". So starting in February 2011 I started with slow jog. Even before reaching 500 meters I sudah mengenah macam nak mati. But luckily my wife, parents n friends give a lot of encouragement. So I just keep on my slow jog and healthy eating. Cut story short, I ran the SCKLM 10KM in 2011... I finish in 1h 17m. And very happy with myself. Since then I try to consistently jog two or three times a week. But my feet, knees n hips sometimes sakit. And I have to rest for a week before I continue with my routine. Then my friend kasi pinjam his book "Born To Run". After reading the book, I said "what the heck, cuba je lah". I took me 3 months to adapt. I started with 500m and now I ran 3-4km barefoot. And pain free But all this barefoot running is in the Bukit Kiara jogging park. Even though its tarmac, I can ran without worrying about glass, nails and etc. So far i tak berani run barefoot on the real open road or any organized marathon. Looking forward to hear from other barefoot runners who have done so. How's your experience running barefoot on the open road? Is it safe enough to run 100% bare or need to wear VFF? Regards, Budak Baru Belajar. P/S Sorry for the mix of BM and English. |

Hi, im someone who used to do quite a bit of running last time, and then i hurt my knee and have not ran seriously for 3 years. My knee is perfectly healed now and i can jog just fine, but i tend to get a sort of sharp poking pain at the sole of my foot. excatly in the middle. my running shoes are not too worn out yet, but ive never used this particular pair for running since i bought them. could it be because of the arch of my foot? or is it normal. Its annoying to slow down or even stop when my legs are all okay but the pain in my feet get worse and worse.
Too all the sifu's out there, muchhh help needed. =) oh and does anyone know any shop in kl or pj where they check the foot type and recommend shoes? This post has been edited by Sohlan: Jul 8 2012, 01:51 PM |

QUOTE(266K @ Jul 8 2012, 01:04 PM) Welcome Buffalo soldier, I think there is no barefoot runner in LYNRunners group yet, someone do correct me if I m wrong. u could be the first one to start this trend for LYNRunner. Fr what I know it ll take months of feet seasoning to run blister free, and there is no guarantee of successful transition, I think that's the thing that discouraging ppl fr going forward. There are few runners running barefoot in Malaysia, maybe u shud try contact LYN Tenno taiko for more info on those runner. Thanks for the warm welcome Very true... it took 3-4 months for my feet to adapt. But still don't dare to run longer than 5km. My own personal experience I start very slowly when transition to barefoot. The first 3 weeks i only ran 500m per session (3 session per week). |

I guess what's important is the style of running rather than what the runner is wearing. Hence I consider kaki ayam, VFF, Merrell barefoot or any minimalist shoe wearer == barefoot. Any changes to your running? I notice when i change to barefoot my langkah becomes shorter but faster frequency. Hope I'm making sense here... hehehe. On another note, I'm thinking of joining Putrajaya Night Marathon (10km) http://www.bsnpnm.com/ Anyone ran it last year? Well organized or fiasco like the Energizer Night Run? |

I train barefoot but taking a rest now after running the stanchart 10k (time 49:48) in VFF KSOs.Any changes to your running? On another note, I'm thinking of joining Putrajaya Night Marathon (10km) http://www.bsnpnm.com/ Anyone ran it last year? Well organized or fiasco like the Energizer Night Run? I can run barefoot comfortably up to 10k. I usually run barefoot at Lake Gardens and KLCC where I am pretty confident that the are minimal risks of broken glass etc. The main issue with barefoot running during races is that you don't want to worry about surface texture and dangerous objects while you race which is the reason I raced the stanchart in VFFs. IMO, efficient running principles do not change whether you are barefoot or shod. However, for running barefoot, the more conditioned the soles of your feet are, the more comfortable it is for you to exert more force while running, and thus go faster. |
